Wario Land: Look at screens of it!
A game starring the lumpy, flatulent Wario is an odd candidate for such an appellation (as is any Wii game, for that matter), but Wario Land: Shake It! may be one of the best-looking games ever. It is an absolute delight to look at screens of the beautiful Production I.G.-animated platformer.
GamePro has an expansive gallery of screens featuring the man in the yellow hat running, jumping, shoulder tackling, shaking birds, carrying robots, being on fire, and falling on his face -- all done very smoothly and gracefully. Sort of. We hope Wario manages to shake some treasure out of Wii owners soon, because we'd love to keep looking at this kind of thing.

Heres a video explaining the game and controls. I have to say it really looks like a good game!

This was a day 1 purchase for me, and the animations and art design really are beautiful. A busy work schedule has kept me away from the game over the past few days, so I'm only about 20% into it. So far, it seems like it will be easy to finish, but difficult to complete 100%.
By the way, Fatal Frame IV will also be a day 1 purchase for me, tomorrow. ;)

Lucky
NoA has never acknowledged the existence of Fatal Frame IV. I don't doubt that it will be localized (all of the others were), but i doubt we'll see it before Q2 2009, at least
However, i will be picking up Wario Land day one also.

Couldn't wait, so my brother and I are importing it. It's gonna be sweet~

Hopefully IGA looks at this as his metric for releasing a new 2D entry, instead of Megaman 9
Imagine, something like this on Wii with similar, beautiful hand-drawn graphics to put Symphony of the Night to shame
Not that retro-vania would be bad at all, but the visual possibilities are endless if they go the disc route.

So, has anyone noticed that we all still totally love platformers?
Since Megaman 9, we've been hearing a lot of retro-movement stuff, and we all love it. But we also love games like LostWinds, which was an absolutely gorgeous platformer--but still pretty 2-dimensional--and now this game, which is 2-dimensional, but very pretty itself.
We also all love Super Mario Galaxy (EVERYONE loves SMG), which was a good 3D platformer. I loved Super Paper Mario, and am sure many of you did, too.
I mean, I love a good platformer. This is an instant buy for me. I was just thinking, though: is an 8-bit revival really necessary? I personally think that this art style is preferable in today's world (but you really can't beat 8-bit, don't get me wrong).
What I'm trying to ask is, would you rather see more games like this or LostWinds, or more like Megaman 9?
