MotionPlus accessory adds hope to Red Steel 2
The Wii MotionPlus accessory is probably the best thing that could happen to Red Steel, and, luckily, Ubisoft has figured out this staggeringly obvious fact. The company has announced that they'll be using the new motion-tracking device in Red Steel 2, which is still yet to be officially announced itself. Although now that the game's producer is giving interviews about it, we can be pretty sure it's coming.Adding the new technology will no doubt add to the already lengthy development cycle of the sequel, and accordingly no release window is given for Red Steel 2. This is the first game other than Wii Sports Resort that has been revealed to use the MotionPlus peripheral, so it's at least ahead of the curve in aspects not related to actually being available in a store.

I remember being so pumped up before the Wii launch about Red Steel. I'd settled that, after waiting in line all night, I'd pick up the Wii and two games - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Red Steel.
That is, until I read the Red Steel Reviews.
I was put off by them so much. The game looked great, but it didn't play very well, and I was upset about that. But, if the Wii MotionPlus can improve the controls, and the game is designed the right way...who knows? Maybe the sequel will live up to the game I originally wanted to buy.
Make it happen, Ubisoft!

I knew from the beginning that a Wiimote wouldn't be able to read random flails of the sword, so with that, I just decided to play smarter. I never violently shook the Wiimote when in a sword battle. I just did suttle slashes, waited for the animation, and tried another slash. Very responsive.
I liked Red Steel, except for the multiplayer graphics, which were garbage compared to the storymode.

to be honest, i thought red steel was a good game, it just was unable to live up to its hype, which was perfect sword controls, i thought the shooting aspect of it was fine tbh. but with motion plus that should tighten it right up, im hoping to see good things soon.

its gonna suck anyway, its ubisoft we're dealing with

Dude, show some enthusiasm, would ya? They can make this game good, even if it is Ubisoft.

At least they are delaying the game to add the MotionPlus.
Yes, I was one of the few that enjoyed the first. :)

I liked Red Steel. I borrowed it from a friend, and even with a badly injured finger, that throbbed every time I swung the nunchuck, I had a great time playing it.

I no longer trust Ubisoft to make a good, AAA quality game for the Wii.
It's also quite sad that Catz 2 was superior in nearly every way to Red Steel.

Red Steel is decent... you can get it for $10 which is about what it's worth... I played it this weekend. The menus & cutscenes seem abit fuzzy graphics wise... and the Menu system is HORRIBLE! but the gameplay is not that bad... if you can get used to the jittery controls ;) I'll check out RS2 for sure with the Motion Plus!

I temporarily swapped Secret Rings for Red Steel with a friend of mine just after i had beaten Secret Rings, and found it to be a pleasant enough experience, though not without its flaws. Ultimately reminded me quite a bit of Goldeneye, sans the Halo-style health system (which is totally dumb and inapplicable in games where the protagonist isn't equipped with a suit of armor with shield regeneration technology)
I would certainly give another installment a look, now that we have online, voice, better educated developers, and MotionPlus
Crazylink @ Jul 28th 2008 12:54PM
I've been wondering this since the Motion Plus was revealed. Does the MP have another port for the nunchuck, or are you stuck with one or the other?

This game has always had HUGE potential. I hope they learn from their mistakes and get this right. Because it could be an instant classic if they just get the interface and controls right.
Nebinator @ Jul 28th 2008 7:32PM
If the conduit has wii motionplus I really doubt this will sell well.
Ujn Hunter @ Jul 29th 2008 10:33AM
Why? The Conduit is Sci-Fi shooter like Halo, and Red Steel 2 is a modern day shooter w/ samurai swords... Two different types of FPS...
