Astley DS-10 just wants to tell you how it's feeling
The above video proves the old saying -- where there's a will, there's a Rickroll. With the release of Korg's DS-10 synthesizer software in Japan, naturally, someone has composed a track recreating Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up," the meme that launched a thousand prank Youtube links.
Half of the hilarity is missing with the singer's sunglasses and dance moves absent, just as any rendition of Europe's "Final Countdown" suffers without Gob, but that's what homebrew application RickRollDS is for!

I will not be impressed until you can re-create Carmina Burana in it's entirety on the Korg DS-10.

Pretty cool to have been able to recreate the song in the synthesizer.
However, I have to say... WHY do people on the Internet think the whole "RickRolling" phenomenon is amusing? It's gotta rank up there with the "I Can Has Cheezburger?" stuff as one of the dumbest Internet memes ever.
CHWong @ Jul 28th 2008 2:51AM
The "I can haz cheeseburger" meme is just something I will never understand.
Deliberately misspelling a caption and then shoving it onto a picture of a cat.... hmmm..... I really don't get what's amusing about it.
At least when you misdirect someone to a music video of Mr Astley doing his awesome dance moves, there is some satisfaction and laughs for both parties.
aj @ Jul 28th 2008 5:11AM
Goatse was always much more amusing than Rickrolling.
And come on, there are so many better terrible songs to misdirect people to. What about Oran "Juice" Jones? What about The Escape Club?
Puddles @ Jul 28th 2008 2:48AM
That was great. I can't wait to get me a DS-10.
Christopher @ Jul 28th 2008 9:17AM
I just don't get this Korg thing. I mean, this is the kind of stuff the PC was doing 10 years ago.
Yeah, I want a DS app that I can make Midis. Wheeeee. What fun. *dripping sarcasm*
I suppose it will be a hit with Japanese and kids.
daveteee @ Jul 28th 2008 11:08AM
You seem like a really nice person not condescending at all *dripping sarcasm*
You obviously have no clue about what Korg is and what their products are for so I'll forgive you, but next time please at least do a bit of research before spouting out crap.
Also here's some advice, try not to sound like you're better than other people just because you're too dumb to understand something.
Jfresh @ Jul 28th 2008 2:09PM
Christopher is kinda right.
Though I am looking forward to this big time, there is really nothing special about this. The Fact that it has no MIDI is a huge glaring flaw that makes it inferior to various hombrew efforts coming down the pike. Nobody is mentioning the drawbacks like having to make a rig to get music onto a pc or mac. I am buying this for the stability and documentation and having a portable musical sketchpad.
I'm sure tons of people will do amazing things with this, it just seems they dropped the ball on the most important features that are important for serious musicians.
I'm still getting this though
chibi_wings @ Jul 28th 2008 7:40PM
wow! I don't think I could ever recreate any song on any instrument or synthesizer, since I am musically disabled. So whenever I see these kinds of things they just amaze me. Good job!
Jacksons @ Jul 29th 2008 2:02AM
I don't get it, you can't export your stuff to a PC?
Jayenkai @ Jul 29th 2008 4:44AM
It's nice, but when there's homebrew trackers out there, there's pretty much no point in limiting yourself to the rather crappy 16-notes-per-pattern / 16-patterns-per-song rules that the Korg makes you follow.
Shame, though, could've been so much better.
