Wii Music dated in Japan
Instrumental extravaganza and current internet hate figure Wii Music will be launching in Japan this October 16th, dog suit and all. If anything, we were left slightly bemused and confused by the game when we tried it at E3, but remain open-minded towards the concept. Besides, we've no doubt whatsoever that it'll sell gangbusters in Japan and probably everywhere else. Now, hands up: anyone actually importing this?

I'm sure this will sell well. There are millions of unsuspecting suckers out there. I'm not one of them. I'll keep waiting for The Conduit and Fragile and dare I say, Sadness. Always believe!
TomSkib @ Jul 25th 2008 10:18AM
Considering that I actually play real instruments (guitar & drums), I could care less about this. I'm sure the Hannah Montana crowd will love this though.
SHAWNWIII @ Jul 25th 2008 10:20AM
me? import/buy wii music? no thanks.
Patrick @ Jul 25th 2008 10:23AM
I still don't really understand the game, so I'm not exactly clamoring for it. I just don't have any idea what you actually do, so I have a hard time imagining how it might be fun.
KonohaShinobi @ Jul 25th 2008 10:48AM
You literally are just flailing your arms like a retard (not kidding, Miyamoto said it himself you are just pretending to play...)
There is not an ounce of difficulty or any real challenge at all. If you can wave your hands in the air for 3 minutes (go ahead and try) you are already a master at Wii Music. It's a disgrace. Any one who loves music or calls themself a musician should not buy this and fund it's stupidity. Let the retarded mother without any video game knowledge buy this trash. As Miyamoto stated,"It's not a video game (that would be too easy) Wii Music is a toy."
Brucie B @ Jul 25th 2008 10:46AM
What is up with all this Corn-Ware....
Garu @ Jul 25th 2008 10:47AM
This game didn't interest me, and I know a lot of people have been hard on it, but watch that this ends up being THE game of the year and all the fan boys who said it sucked will be bragging about it and/or bitchin' that it's always sold out and they can't get a copy of it.
I doubt it will happen, but I've been surprised before!
KonohaShinobi @ Jul 25th 2008 10:50AM
If you call yourself a gamer, you will not fund this atrocity. GoTY? HAHAHA!
Spencer @ Jul 25th 2008 10:56AM
Really? I thought gamers played games to have fun...and if it's fun, and engaging, and enjoyable... then I would have absolutely no problem calling it GoTY.
mind you, I don't think it's going to be all those things...but we really haven't seen enough to know.
Heck, the only reason I liked Halo was because how fun it was to sit around with friends playing... how is this THAT much different that you'd call someone that finds it fun a non-gamer?
KonohaShinobi @ Jul 25th 2008 11:13AM
Halo is actually a game though. Not a very good one, but it's playable. Wii Music is wagglan at it's best.
I cannot see anyone but a 3 year old actually "enjoying" Wii Music.
"Look mommy I'm playin' a song" *wagglewagglewagggle*
Jrzshore @ Jul 25th 2008 11:24AM
What I want to know is, who is it that "dated" the game, per the headline? Sexy lil' Wii Sports? That tranny House of the Dead II & III? Perhaps cute as a button but obviously underage No More Heroes? Maybe ALL of them?
Wii Music is such a slut...
Spencer @ Jul 25th 2008 10:54AM
If i recall correctly, we had a fairly similar reaction (bit warmer, but not much) to wii fit...
This one seems decidedly more Japanese then wii fit though, and just WEIRD.
I'm still not sure what the point of the thing is.
KonohaShinobi @ Jul 25th 2008 10:59AM
The difference being, Wii Fit had a point to playing it: Exercising and learning to make a habit of it. Plus it came with the Wii Balance Board which is now being used in multiple games (None of which are worth buying the board for, yet at least).
With Wii Music there is no learning curve, it does not get anymore difficulty, it's worthless.
Spencer @ Jul 25th 2008 11:03AM
I don't think wii fit gets any harder, once you've unlocked everything the only thing that changes is you're skill at doing the things...
Maybe pointless is the point... *shrug* Myiamoto's allowed to go off the weird end occasionally if you ask me. It's no different then the guy behind team Ninja doing DOA Extreme Volleyball, except Myiamoto didn't shove boobs into our faces, so we don't see the absurdity of it.

I doubt it is "more Japanese"
Do not forget that karaoke there is very popular. And Wii Music goes against the groundlaying rule of karaoke which is that you actually do something - NOT pretend doing.
BUT. If Nintendo would be smart enough to add karaoke support to Wii Music, then it might be just thing for Jap market.
Mr Khan @ Jul 25th 2008 11:44AM
There has to be more to this game than what we're seeing
Otherwise i don't see why they took so long on it
Hamster @ Jul 25th 2008 11:57AM
I bet even the clueless models in that standard "nauseating photo of people of all ages and races having fun with Nintendo products together" thought it was shit.
Shogan @ Jul 25th 2008 12:20PM
Add me to the list of people who just don't get it. It looks and sounds like you're just pretending to play music, with your Mii imitating some of your motions, while poorly-done versions of actual music play through the TV.
If that's what this is, Nintendo should be ashamed of themselves.
ramuji @ Jul 25th 2008 12:31PM
Probably a day 1 purchase for me, on 16 October.

I'm still gonna buy it though.

This one's pretty good as well:

Reading about the game made it sound at least possibly interesting. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I thought maybe if you had a big group of people over, it could be kinda maybe sorta fun. And then I saw a video of the E3 demonstration...
While I think this "toy" will be great for my 3 year old nephew and 2 year old niece, I cannot see this gaining much traction even among the casual gaming crowd seeing as there is absolutely no skill or challenge involved. Even casual gamers need something to shoot for.
Or I could be completely wrong and within the year, I'll be sharing videos of my "performances" here during a new nintendowiifanboy weekly series.
Blue Bomber @ Jul 25th 2008 1:45PM
I think we all need to calm down until we have a review to read. Being simple doesn't mean it can't be fun. The PS3 and 360 fanboys out there think just because our Wii is simple in comparison that it can't possibly be fun, either. ;)
Spencer @ Jul 25th 2008 2:28PM
"Who wants to bounce a ball back and forth, there's no skill to it!"
Arex @ Jul 27th 2008 2:31PM
But there is skill involved, and you get points for out bouncing the other player.
I'm not sure there is any reward for more "skillfully" shaking the remote or pushing buttons in Wii Music. Hopefully there is because it's not much of a "game" without it.
I used to have one of those keyboards where you could push a same key and it would automatically play a melody. It was entertaining enough as a child, but I can't see myself doing that for hours and actually enjoying myself, even amongst friends. But who knows.
Damitol @ Jul 25th 2008 3:01PM
I'm sure someone somewhere once said "Mario racing a car against Donkey Kong?!?!? WTF?!?!?".
As a musician, the idea of having access to 40 or so insturments from around the world is interesting in concept, so I'm holding my opinion for now. If we did see the meat of the game in all of it's glory in the E3 presentation - then no, I won't be buying it, even as a used game with my GameStop card discount.
Call me an optimist - but I really do want to believe that since it got the lion's share of attention during Nintendo's dog and pony show, there *has* to be more to it than "push any button and here it play music". I mean otherwise.....WTF?
Mr Khan @ Jul 25th 2008 4:17PM
That's what i mean. If that's all there is, why did it take them 2 years to develop it?
SoshiKitai @ Jul 25th 2008 4:32PM
Wii Sports didn't look interesting until I actually PLAYED it.
I'm sure Wii Music shall be the same.
I'll be the first "idiot" to say that I have confidence in it.
schmixx @ Jul 27th 2008 4:31AM
As everyone bitches that "game" even before it is released I will check it out and try it by myself before I spit on it. Which does not mean that I am not prejudiced...
