Dead Rising: Compare 'til you drop
There may be a dearth of actual Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop screens, but we've been pretty rich in print media on the re-imagined game so far. The latest, from a French Nintendo magazine, show off some different angles from some of the scenes we've already seen, such as the psycho battle in the gun store.
There's been some concern that there just won't be as many zombies in the Wii version -- and the number of zombies is pretty much the crux of the game -- but considering we're seeing screens from early in the game, it isn't that surprising that there aren't that many zombies. Until we see screenshots from a cramped area like the nightmarish Al Fresca plaza, we won't really be able to judge how much, if any, the game has been downgraded in that sense. We've put together a couple of comparison shots after the break that demonstrate that there's more to be hopeful about than many had thought.

Only here in this last set is there a difference, but it's a vastly different angle. No matter the angle, however, things are looking up for this new vision of Dead Rising!

Sooooooooooooo...... Is this the PS1 build?
Lord Bowser @ Jul 26th 2008 6:55AM
It's the GBA version, silly.
EDW @ Jul 26th 2008 12:10AM
i loved DR on 360, so hopefully this will be good. that last comparison shot is a little rediculous, though. with all of the survivors trapped in that mall, they could just plow through the twenty or so zombies chillin in the parking lot.
Tom @ Jul 26th 2008 12:35AM
Paradise Plaza - The Wii version shows a lot of zombies in the fore and middle ground, but nothing in the background. These would be the enemies that you'd have to face after you are finished hacking and slashing with what is in front of you.
In the 360 - you can see them lining the background and that is the major difference.
I can only hope that in the final release there are zombies everywhere, but I don't know what they are capable of because I don't work with the Wii or develop software for it. All I know is that if it is close to what RE4 was for me (I still am playing it through again and again) then I'll be happy.
Sam @ Jul 26th 2008 10:42AM
if you want it to be like RE4, you'll be happy to know it's running on the same engine... but I don't think I ever saw more than 20 umm... zombie...things at one place at a time.

Dead Rising was my all-time favorite game when I owned a 360. I'm excited to see it come to the Wii. Just a reminder for the naysayers... there may have been a lot of zombies on-screen on the 360, but they were simply "moving background wallpaper"... as you walked closer to them "active" zombies suddenly appeared.
I remember how frustrating it was to clear out a section only to turn around and see the just-cleared area chock full of zombies again.
Moose @ Jul 26th 2008 2:27AM
What? Background? No? You could walk right up and kill them.
Zombies respawned yes but every zombie you saw was dangerous to you. No zombies suddenly appeared in front of me when i played.

WHO CARES!!! If the graphics or the fact that there aren't as many zombies on the screen as the 360 version bother you so much, then don't BUY the FUCKING game! It's that's simple. There's no use in comparing the two games.
Side Note: Wii graphic jokes EQUALS old. Please stop using them now. (Grow up already. ^Shaq-Fu)

This is nintendowiifanboy, not joystiq, lawl.
SoshiKitai @ Jul 26th 2008 2:52AM
I was considering not getting it for the 360 (yeah, I was late on getting it... I was busy with other games) when I heard it was coming out for the Wii...
Not so sure now... if not as many zombies appear, I may just stick to getting the 360 version.
If however, the controls are GREEAAT, I may have to get both.
We'll see. We'll see.
Hamster @ Jul 26th 2008 8:59AM
Looks a bit waggly :-(
zdrummer @ Jul 26th 2008 9:32AM
It looks like they reskinned RE4 Wii Edition. I wouldn't complain if the controls and aiming were the same as RE4 though.
4N1M3H34D @ Jul 26th 2008 12:09PM
the first two 360 images look like bullshots to me
RaunchMark @ Jul 26th 2008 2:00PM
Capcom, SAVE US!!!! If i didnt have my system filled with VC games and now worthless peripherals I wouldve sold my Wii after reading the new 'casual lineup' from E3... Im casual, but I still need decent games... I am more than willing to admit that my Wii will never live up to the other 2 graphically, yadda yadda, but I do cry when I see the potential for fun games being squandered on... WII MUSIC??!!??
I originally bought a 360 last spring with Dead Rising being the Zombie mark that I am and fell in love with it, until my Xbox started to scratch concentric circles on my game discs rendering them useless...
Upon returning it to Best Buy, Wii's were in stock, I got one and haven't looked back... until E3...
I know, and see from the screens, Dead Rising Wii will be very different, I am looking forward to the RE4 engine again and have faith in Capcom... Just not Nintendo...
COME ON DEVELOPERS!!!! Keep cranking this stuff out and Ill keep buying it... This is my FIRST Nintendo system and as of late, Ive been buying VC games from yesteryear to fill the void of decent games coming... MOH proved FPS's can be done superbly, all developers take note...
Is anyone else as frustrated as me???
samfish @ Jul 26th 2008 2:33PM
No, not really. We've gotten lots of great games on the Wii since it's launch. Moreso than any other previous Nintendo system.
That said, I suspect I'll be rather disappointed come this winter when I realize I have no Wii games that I want to play. I seriously doubt I can drag out Wario Land until whenever Nintendo decides to drop their next big game.
SoshiKitai @ Jul 26th 2008 2:35PM
It's just E3, calm down.
Everyone already gets the idea that Nintendo didn't wanna' show much more than casual in E3, since E3's become more media-frenzied. I mean... Xbox 360 had a good line-up for their show-ins, but did you see their *shudder shudder* OTHER games shown? ... they're no better than us when they showed that.
I'm sure many are frustrated with you.
But I keep it in this sense: Holidays comin' up. Pray.
Mr Khan @ Jul 26th 2008 3:15PM
2009 is now looking to be magnificent, but i'm with samfish in that i feel a bit deflated about the lack of good games in the latter half of the year
However, Wario Land, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Chronicles will suit me, while other Nintendo-exclusive owners will find joy in Chrono Trigger or Animal Crossing, or even Chinatown wars
2009, however, is when the glory will rain down upon us.
dieandrot @ Jul 29th 2008 7:22AM
there's a good MoH game on the Wii?! shit, the last good one i played was on ps1... the rest have consistently been blown out of the water by CoD games.
samfish @ Jul 26th 2008 2:30PM
I know I'll end up buying it, because for the time being, it's about as close to another RE4 we're gonna get on the Wii.
But still, I HOPE those screens are WAY early. RE4 on the GC looked considerably better at it's earliest stages. If this is running off the RE4 engine, I see no reason why thing game shouldn't look at LEAST a great as it. The muddy textures and lack of any sort of shading and lighting are making it look...awful.
nintendo1889 @ Jul 26th 2008 5:09PM
Ah, geez, not another one of those "wii graphics vs xbox 360 graphics" wars! Graphic never have nor ever will make or break a game. Control and overall game play are the more important facets of what makes a game good. Take a look of what they SHOULDN'T do with games. Look at Lair for the PS3; graphics-wise, it looked clear and beautiful, but as a game, it sucked worse than the time Bill Gates was demonstrating a new version of Windows and got a Blue Screen of Death. Now, look at the other side of the spectrum; take the DS. The graphics aren't as good as the PSP's, sure, but unlike the PSP, the games are more original and fresh. And though very few DS push the hardware to the limit, the replay value is through the roof. Graphics are good, but don't mean the difference between life and death.
Alisha Karabinus @ Jul 26th 2008 5:37PM
Original post had nothing to do with graphics and everything to do with the number of zombies that can be rendered on screen at once. I don't care if the zombies look great or like crap; they're zombies and they're for killing. But I DO care if the Wii game can measure up in the sheer numbers, and it looks like it can.
nintendo1889 @ Jul 26th 2008 8:08PM
"It's the GBA version, silly. " or "Sooooooooooooo...... Is this the PS1 build?" phrases piss me off.
To Alisha Karabinus, I did notice that the comparison was the numbers of zombies, but I'm trying to prove what I said earlier, and that is, there are those who undermine the way wii games look compared to the competition (like PS3/Xbox 360). If people would rather come to Nintendo wii fanboy (keyword: Nintendo) and make fun it, do it somewhere else and not here.

Alisha Karabinus @ Jul 26th 2008 9:59PM
I just wanted to make sure! Otherwise, I agree with you. It's pretty hard to judge Wii games off screens anyway, just as with DS, since they always look way better in motion.
Shogan @ Jul 26th 2008 11:09PM
I'm going to be a little more optimistic. I think the Wii can do this justice. I just played through Dead Rising on the 360 again, and the graphics and interactivity are pretty last gen, it's the number of enemies that eats up most of the power. Since the poly count is going down, the Wii should be able to match the number of Zombies.... without too much slowdown.
ChibiKawase @ Jul 27th 2008 9:27PM
I'm happy to see this port(or even port-make), because it proves that you CAN port 360/PS3 titles to the Wii, so long as you remember what core gameplay is. GameArts and tri-Ace tried that years ago with the GBC, and both Grandia: Parallel Trippers and Star Ocean Blue Sphere managed to be pretty damn fun...well, minus the whole "not in English" thing.
kjin @ Jul 28th 2008 6:36AM
They will probably handle it similar to Oneechanbara Revolution (you know that Japanese import with the bikini clad zombie fighting girl): it can handle huge zombie mobs (around 100 or so), but of course they kept popping up in front of you, but you could tell it's a mob, because you can hear them moaning in a group and you are constantly surrounded.
For me it did the job, and i am sure DR will be even more competent.
Tim @ Jul 28th 2008 7:33AM
I hated the 360 version. "So you mean i can hit a zombie with a shopping cart? wait come back 50 dollars!"
nuero @ Jul 28th 2008 8:18AM
I'm sure version for Babby Console will be to your liking, you can now swing Wiimote left to hit zombie with shopping cart or swing Wiimote right to not hit zombie with shoping car
Toof @ Jul 28th 2008 5:34PM
Oh thank god...
el0d @ Jul 28th 2008 9:43AM
There's 7 zombies in the xbox 360 store shot not 6.
There's 18 zombies in the "Wii - many zombies" shot, there's 18 just to the less-dense left of Frank in the 360 shot.
