Square Enix trademark elicits confusion over Chrono Trigger DS
Square Enix trademarked something fairly odd during E3 last week. What was it? Echoes of Time. Logical reasoning points to a subtitle for Chrono Trigger DS, but with Square Enix never stating the title was temporary, we're left to wonder.
We'll admit that Chrono Trigger: Echoes of Time has a nice ring to it. But, is it really for the DS remake? Or, does Square Enix have something else up their sleeve?

I'm dying for a sequel... or even a remake of Chrono Cross.
If its a name change then so be it... but a whole new entry in the series would definitely be a nice announcement in Square press conf. later this year.

I know I'm not the only one who thinks your dumb for wanting more Chrono Cross...
shadekh @ Jul 24th 2008 2:40PM
I hope for a Ccross sequel too. The original was a fantastic rpg which was a victim of irate CT fanboys who just wanted the exact same game in a prettier package, and did not care how innovative and incredible CC was on its own (gamespot gave it a perfect score, btw).
Pity, we end up getting endless remakes (cue FFIV ds) instead of fresh new games, due to this kind of attitude.
Now, we get a remake of CT (the third), which is just the same damn game again. As much as I love CT, lets have something new, please.

@b
Well apparently you are...
soooo.... your dumb.. ;)
Hardly any place gave it a score lower then 9/10. sooo yeah...

You can add me to the "wants more Chrono Cross" list. I loved Chrono Cross. Also, it still could be possibly my favorite game soundtrack.
But hell, just more Chrono Trigger would be awesome. I'm hoping for at the very least, an expanded game on the DS.

Add me to the list of people that want more Chrono Cross. Anyone who says that it isn't a true sequel to Chrono Trigger did not play through the second disc...Or they're just dumb.

I'd prefer more of a CT then CC sequel; go back to the roots! I've re-finished CT 8 times, I've finished CC once. No comparison to me between the 2, not that i'm bashing CC.
And there's nothing wrong with FFIV remakes or re-releases. FFIV and FFVI are my fav 2 in the series and are amoung the 7 games that are timeless to me:
Castlevania SOTN
Final Fantasy IV
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
Warcraft III
Capcom VS SNK 2
Final Fantasy I
Oh well, can't please everyone.

Please please have something up your sleeve squenix. Please continue the series >.

I have a feeling Echoes of Time will be that huge megaton everyone is talking about for PS3. A sequel to Chrono Trigger exclusive to the Playstation 3.
Sorry to derail from DS, but that's my feeling at the moment.
Matt G. @ Jul 24th 2008 3:39PM
With the cost of FFXIII definitively through the roof, you think SE is planning ANOTHER RPG for the PS3?? I don't think they can even think to afford doing such a thing.
Yeah, I'd like a third CT game, but I'm thinking this just may be a nice subtitle for CTDS.
Alexisonfire @ Jul 24th 2008 5:29PM
That's why Squeenix will announce 75% through Echoes of Time's development cycle that it will also be released on the 360, improving its potential sales in North America and, on a smaller scale, Europe.

It makes sense, since they've alluded to an expanded version of Chrono Trigger. Maybe new side quests and a bit more story development
Since Dragon Quest IX is nowhere to be found, this is now the DS's goty, at least in my mind
chibi_wings @ Jul 24th 2008 2:45PM
Expanded story and more side quests would really be nice.Come on Squareenix don't let us down. But even if that is not the case, I'm still very much excited for CT DS.
XDragon @ Jul 24th 2008 4:31PM
I'd guess this is the big "surprise" S-E was talking about.
A new CT game could be cool if they don't mess it up!
That or they're giving the DS version a subtitle but that would be odd considering its a port.
Time will tell but this kinda thing raises peoples hopes and theres only so much people will put up with in regards to being let down from the same company.
Sean jdahsdka @ Jul 24th 2008 6:38PM
I've never played Chrono Trigger, so I personally want it to stay the same.
Maybe there'll be something about it at the SE party? (I forget what it was called this year)
Vayne Solidous @ Jul 25th 2008 11:48AM
I hope it is an actual sequel to CT. This DS remake (or port as it looks) probably won't quench my thirst for a new CT game. One new dungeon, FMVs, and stylus control feels unimpressive to me. I will buy it, but it sounds like a lackluster improvement. Especially after seeing the royal treatment of FFIII and IV.
