Nintendo E3 conference fanfiction
Yes, Nintendo's E3 press conference was very disappointing for people with unrealistic expectations. They didn't announce Kid Icarus or Mario or Zelda or Fire Emblem or Elite Beat Agents Wii or Kung Fu or any other new "hardcore" game, and furthermore, they failed to mention existing core gamer stuff like the amazing Wario Land: Shake It!. As the old saying goes, when life gives you lemons, hallucinate a new life in which you're given lemonade.
Wired took a little flight of fancy and imagined the kind of Nintendo conference that would satisfy the "hardcore" Nintendo fan. The things that were the focal points of the real conferences get glossed over in favor of Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin. In this version, the good third-party games like MadWorld get their due. We can only imagine, after this version, Miyamoto takes off on his space skateboard and hand-delivers copies of Mario 128 to all the good little girls and boys.

when wired picks up on something like this, you know that it's official: Nintendo blew it.
Maybe the new format of E3 is a legit excuse. But still: they blew it.

Haha, that was really funny. Such a shame it wasn't anything like this, it should have been :-(

As awesome as this fake conference is, its funny how there's nothing new in it compared to what Nintendo is actually doing (except for the HDD :p).
To all you people who want to dump your Wii because of E3, just pretend it happened like this. Same stuff, different emphasis. You'll get the same results later.

Yea, it baffles me how people would want to throw away their Wii just because of E3.
In any case, we all know E3 has changed in the last couple of years. 2006 was the last "hardcore" E3 and if we treat the new E3's like the pre-2007 E3's, we will all just be disappointed.
That's just what E3 is right now. The irony is that even though it's being targeted to the casual gamers, I bet 99% of the E3 press conference viewers are the hardcore loyal fans of the video game companies. Well, I just know I won't be tuning into E3 as much as I used to. It's not the place for hardcore gamers anymore.

I don't want to dump my Wii, but this past weekend I ended up buying an XBox 360. That's money that I would have saved for Nintendo if they showed us anything I wanted to buy.
Instead, the press conferences showed me that Microsoft is really in tune with what hardcore gamers want. It showed me that they are also trying to appease the casual gamers with the new Avatars and such. At the moment, I feel like Microsoft is actually paying attention to both gamers AND the casual market and at least trying to give them both what they want.
Nintendo is really busy doing its own thing, and obviously that is working very well for them. I'm honestly happy they are finding such huge success, but I don't feel like part of the crowd they are focusing on at the moment.

I actually think Miyamoto's excuse is pretty legit. E3 is no longer a media summit; it's a trade show, meant to show the company's plans to investors and business partners. I'm holding out for the E for All convention in October, which has taken the place of the old E3. Even last year, I don't remember much focus on Brawl at E3, but there was a playable demo at E for All.
Of course, I'm not saying Nintendo will demo a new Mario or Zelda at E4A, but I will be expecting a lot more information about Pikmin Wii, videos or possibly a demo of Dead Rising, and maybe a little bit about the storage situation.

Lol this is more entertaining than the real conference.

Nobody's going to throw away their Wii because of E3 just as no-one's going to sell their PS3 because of E3. Regardless of what each company showed at E3, I'm confident that each system will receive plenty of new game announcements outside of E3 or any other event just as has always happened.
