Capcom reveals zombie-tastic info for Dead Rising, confirms NA release

Now subtitled Chop Till You Drop, Dead Rising will use the same engine as Resident Evil 4 Wii. Obviously the game will also utilize the Wiimote's "point-and-shoot" capabilities, but it will include other motion controls, too, such as shaking off zombies and throwing explosives.
The other big news is that the port will incorporate an "improved" save system. Many might be jumping for joy at that fact, while others might think that such a change will wussify the series. Either way, that's how the cookie crumbles, folks. We don't have details yet on whether or not the player will be able to save at any time, though.
Those of you who are still excited for the game (save system be damned) can expect it to hit North America sometime this winter. Also, check out the new screens in our gallery below.

this is great news for me aside from madworld this looks like the only other game i'll buy for my wii this year. would have liked it to be ported to ps3 so i could play it the way it was on 360, but hey new game mechanics sound great.

They said it will use the RE4 ENGINE? I find that hard to believe, it would be too much work to convert a full game to a very different engine... I know they said it will use RE4 style camera and controls, but that's different. Link to sources?

The much higher quality images are cut scenes, lifted from the original version and put in this one as movie files, but the game still looks decent with a decent amount of zombies displayed, and I'm sure it'll get better and better as development progresses.

It's in the official Capcom press release.

"North America this winter"...So I'm guessing that there won't be any Wii Motion Plus capability in this title. That's a shame, could have been a chance to highlight the new technology. That said...BRAINS!

The textures look horrible! Should be fun crappy textures and all.
Al3xand3r @ Jul 21st 2008 4:07PM
What did you expect? It couldn't look as good as the best stuff on Wii since a) it's a port from a very different system, those are always shoddy in some ways at least and b) they plan to have many objects on screen at once.
Of course it could also just be a shoddy port all around and they neither have too many zombies nor any visual detail close to what the Wii can pull off to make up for it... We'll see.
Still, even on the 360 the textures and polycounts of objects and characters separatelly are waaaaay below of what the system showcases in smaller scale games like say, Gears of War, though Gears of War 2 seems to 1up it nicely...
il_duce620 @ Jul 21st 2008 5:05PM
As long as they let me kill zombies with trash cans, baseball bats and the body parts of other dead zombies, I'm sold...
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 21st 2008 5:43PM
How about where you can pick up dead zombies, light them on fire, then through them at other zombies?
Mr.ESC @ Jul 21st 2008 9:45PM
Alone in the Dark --------------> That way.
(The Xbox 360 version doesn't sucks but it can be frustrating from time to time)

Changing the save system will definitely wussify this, um, series. It will also alter the original game's interesting dynamic of having you power up but need to start the story anew. It made me really appreciate the tight timeline of the story, and it makes some game choices feel critical. What a nice change from so many games players can sleepwalk through nowadays. I can see how it might not suit the audience of the casual gaming system, tho.
AshStampede @ Jul 21st 2008 9:02PM
shame they have taken out the 24hr element of the game, that was the main interest in this game when it was on the 360. I guess its there "casual" approach. I will pass on the wii version and hold my breath for a pc or ps3 version that will have the hordes of endless zombies and race against the clock to escape as the 360 version.

@ Comstock
um, i believe candace said that it will incorporate an IMPROVED save system not a NEW save system. next time read thoroughly bud.
Comstock @ Jul 22nd 2008 7:08AM
Ah, so it will be improved, but it will not be new. Changes will be made, but not in a new way. It makes so much sense. Thanks for suggesting I read the post again. BTW, I'm not the one that originally suggested it will wussify "the series." Bud.

The save element is the only thing I wanted in the Infinity mode.
I never got 5/7 day achievement because I can only play 2 hours per day and leaving my Xbox 360 on was a bit dangerous.
Infinity mode should work like this; It saves only once per day(2 hours) but if you are death you are death and you have to start again. It would be challenging and fun especially if the risk of dying increases every day with more zombies, bosses and less food.
Playing 14 to 16 hours straight is a b*tch and I love the game,I would even buy this version if it gets scores above 8.
Mr.Mudkip @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:31PM
Yay hopefully aiming will be better and the difficulty toned down.
reviler @ Aug 5th 2008 4:59PM
DR was a great game with a few changes that have yet to be explored (move + aim, please) it might be a real pleasure to play again (Plus if it sells well that increases the chance of getting Dead Rising 2 into production).
