Nintendo's
WiiSpeak demo was one of the freakiest things that happened during E3. Basically, Nintendo had an
Animal Crossing demo running in their conference room, with a WiiSpeak mic connected. In an
undisclosed location somewhere else in the convention center, Charles Martinet was also playing
City Folk, with a Mario-style avatar, and riffing in the Mario voice with whoever happened to wander by.
Mostly, this entailed yelling at other players for messing with his flowers, and complaining about the lack of bugs nearby. I tried to interact with Mr. Martinet, but the WiiSpeak couldn't pick up my normal speaking voice (which is admittedly mousy and whisper-quiet). As I was walking away, Mario started smacking the other players with his axe.

I wish I could've tried that, haha.
But this worries me. If the WiiSpeak is really that insensitive... wow, I hope they fix this issue; I have a quiet voice too, I don't wanna feel like I have to raise my voice for people I'm playing with to hear me.

I wouldn't really worry about it being too soft...I mean, I haven't played it, but apparently other game/tech sites are praising it for being a pretty neat piece of hardware.
You gotta keep in mind, he said his voice is a little quiet (which I'm going to assume was joking a little, but ultimately truthful) and that he's in a crowded room in the middle of E3, the largest gaming convention of the year...

"As I was walking away, Mario starting smacking the other players with his axe."
LOL. Was that in the contract? Maybe Charles was getting bored.

I'm gonna assume it'll be adjustable. I figure they'd have to turn it down in the conference room or it'd be picking up all sorts.

I don't really like Charles Martinet's Mario voice. He sounds castrated.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jul 18th 2008 11:38AM
He's talking in his SM64 Mario voice, not his Galaxy Mario voice.

I have a mousy and whisper quiet voice too. Don't worry about WiiSpeak people. I have a feeling Nyko or someone similar will provide a traditional headset to replace it.
