DS Daily: E3
As the sun sets on another E3, we thought today's DS Daily would be the ideal spot to round up all of your thoughts on the DS-related happenings of the last three days. The biggest news -- insofar that it will probably interest the most people, anyway -- is the announcement of a Grand Theft Auto game for the handheld, a genuine bolt from the blue. Another Guitar Hero is relatively big (if totally predictable) news also, and we were personally delighted by the announcement of Wii-to-DS connectivity for Animal Crossing: Wild World, and the localization of Rhythm Tengoku.
What about you? Highlights? Lowlights? Favorite moments? Most shocking omissions? We like numbers, so give the DS's E3 a mark out of ten if you like!

Low points: NO mention of Disgaea or FFVI on the DS or an upcoming Zelda game.

No DS redesign! 3/10 for that one big N! I want an excuse to buy a new DS, cos my L button is screwed.

Highlights for me were really just new trailers for games I already knew about, like Chrono Trigger and Castlevania Order of Ecclesia.
GTA: Chinatown sounds like it could be good, but they should have at least shown some screens or footage of it!
Lowlights: No mention of worldwide releases for Fire Emblem or Archaic Sealed Heat (which I heard before that Nintendo was supposed to be publishing in the US at some point).

I was waiting for a redesign as well. Mainly because it would delay a new handheld console for some time, i want the top games coming out on my DS :). Now i don't know, maybe next year they will announce a new handheld?

I wish they would give us an actual name or something for a new Zelda.

Low point: No mention of Warlords DS. :(
No NDS2 (updated DS with backward compatability)
MotionPlus (Wii) not available until Spring '09??? (are they crazy?)
Still no mention of a storage solution for Wii
High point: GTA China Town (but seriously, how much is this going to suck on the DS with its relatively puny hardware? Maybe this should be a low point....)
I am not bashing the DS by any means, I love mine. But you have to admit, compared to the PSP it is quite limited. Actually, the biggest constraint (from what I've heard in the dev community) it is lack of RAM - 4MB isn't nearly enough.

On day one, another batch of Sonic Chronicles screenshots were released, and I made a flippant comment saying they would be the highlight of E3. Unfortunately, it was the highlight, for me, anyway.

I am actually really excited for GTA, since it's being made by the same guys who did Max Payne for the GBA way back. They did quite a lot with the limited nature of the system, and I can't wait to see what they do with the DS.
BiboPenta @ Jul 18th 2008 11:25AM
Well, a GTA in 3D will obviously suck. I really hope they make the best old school top-view GTA ever :). And that Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, put it to good use :)

Highlights: Uhm, pretty much nothing.
Lowlights: No redesign. No interesting new games.
Score: 4/10 - Disappointing
I hope the next big expo/con/show (isn't there one in Japan?) is better.
