E308: Glorious Mega Man 9 boxart
Ultrasound graphics synthesis! 8-bit fidelity engine!
We have always been of the opinion that even downloadable games should have boxart. Capcom agreed, putting together this mix of the original Mega Man game's North American packaging and Mega Man 2's PAL cover. The resulting Mega Man 9 art showed up at the publisher's E3 booth on what looked like an iron-on transfer shirt.
Unfortunately, only a few of the shirts were made for internal staff, and Capcom doesn't intend to give any away. At least we have this photo (taken by 1UP's Jeremy Parish)! Check out that huge M on his belt!

O... M... G!!!
Best boxart of the century!
It's so retro, it's cool. I'd love to have that boxart.

I would pay whatever they were asking for a t-shirt with that on it!
Lijik @ Jul 17th 2008 4:40PM
This boxart just bleeds with awesomeness.

That boxart is so ugly, its awesome.
Great job Capcom at making MM9 the greatest thing ever! :D
DiddlyKong @ Jul 17th 2008 4:43PM
That is Mega Mantastic! Capcom can do no wrong.

As if I wasn't craving an NES cartridge version of Mega Man 9 enough already...

I love the scar on Dr. Wily =)

LOL, I don't know much about Mega Man, but everything I've heard about him suggests that he's a kid. Now I see him as an old man with an M on his belt and an erection. And a big laser gun.

I understand your confusion. You may need to see Megaman's boxarts for the first 2 titles on NES [In other words, Megaman 1 and Megaman 2 for the NES]. Just look at them, and you'll understand why this boxart is like this.

I'm one of those that didn't particularly care for the retro direction Capcom chose for this game's graphics and sound, but given their decision, this box art is PERFECT for the title. Love it!

That robot in the background looks a lot like the Fruit Fucker...
And what in the world does mega man need with a pistol?
Saltypoison @ Jul 17th 2008 7:52PM
Haha, that is the first thing that came to my mind too.
Josh @ Jul 17th 2008 5:26PM
I'm *still* stunned at just how bad the North American Mega Man 1 box art is.
Josh @ Jul 17th 2008 5:27PM
But I would definitely buy this shirt/box/whatever had this art on it.
John Rios @ Jul 17th 2008 6:05PM
I love that he has his arm cannon AND a laser gun! Capcom SO know what they're doing!
TWOO DEE @ Jul 17th 2008 11:39PM
FRUIT FUCKER!
Max Headroom @ Jul 17th 2008 6:35PM
That is made of win. So awesome.
silwecad @ Jul 17th 2008 6:47PM
That's badass.
Also I completely agree about the arm cannon AND laser gun.

Nintendo should have Mega Man 9 regular and Mega Man Special Edition on WiiWare! You'd pay the normal $10 for MM9, but if you pid the $15 for MM9 SE, they'd ask you for your address and send you a box with this on it to look like a regular box with a non-working NES cartridge that looked like a normal MM cartridge!

Make that Capcom should have..., and paid :P

This goes beyond sexy. The team definitely deserves hearty handshakes and praise for whipping this up.
