Nintendo: no fridge updates planned
That "storage problem" bingo space is going to be pristine forever -- no marking shall touch it. Even if the bingo card extended out of the keynote and across E3 (unless they make a surprise announcement later or something). Nintendo senior director of corporate communications, Charlie Scibetta, told a combined Fanboy/Joystiq Interview Squad that the company isn't planning to fix the VC/WiiWare/DLC storage issue anytime soon. Scibetta repeated the unchanged company position:"We hear gamers loud and clear on that. What's great about the songs and the games that you can download is that the system remembers that you did that. So if you need to clear off space off your SD card, you can. It's not like once you delete them you've lost them forever and you have to pay for them again. It's just a matter of managing the space you do have and keeping the stuff on there that you play the most while clearing up when you want to bring new stuff on."
This puts Sega, who planned to "cross that bridge when they come to it" with the Samba de Amigo DLC, directly in front of a bridge.
Keep an eye on Wii Fanboy for more of our interview with Mr. Scibetta.

"We hear gamers loud and clear on that."
They obviously don't. Re-downloading stuff is a pain. If I want to play a game I downloaded 6 months ago, I want to play it now, not wait 15 minutes for it to re-download...
Grr.

Right on man. Not to mention the fact that will this service be around in 10-15 years? I highly doubt it will be. So what you decide to leave out there in the internet space once that time comes will forever be lost. Keep up the stupid Nintendo, you're taking your success and shooting it in the foot.
Ghen @ Jul 17th 2008 10:57AM
This is also clearly going to affect Guitar Hero: World Tour unless it comes packed with a 10 pack of SD cards in addition to the instruments.
Phil @ Jul 16th 2008 6:58PM
Would shigeru get some translator and tell every little corporate asshole at NOA to shut the hell up on the whole storage issue?
If Shigeru Miyamoto says it's being worked on, the rest of you can keep your mouths shut. Do you completely run the company? No? Did either Satoru Iwata or Miyamoto make a statement for Nintendo saying they have no plans?
No? Right? No final word, correct? THEN SHUT IT AND DROP THE DAMN ISSUE.
I'm getting sick of these corporate idiots speaking on behalf of the entire company. It'd be like if some noob for a WoW guild made the decisions, just stupid.
I know these people have important positions, but as far as I can see, they're just spouting off what THEY feel.

He mentions clearing space off of the SD card to make rooms for new things though, not the internal flash. I wonder if he was hinting at SD direct access for these types of things, or if he's just some moron in a senior position (probably the latter).

So some exec comes out and ruins the party after Shiggy gives us gamers a little hope. Good one guys.
Matt B @ Jul 16th 2008 7:35PM
Ugh, no, we want a storage solution so we DON'T have to redownload it again. And what happens when the servers go offline forever? We lose what we paid for? Screw that. Give us a HD!!!
Abscissa @ Jul 17th 2008 1:59PM
Dude, do you REALLY think a HD is going to solve the "when support is dropped" issue? What happens if the HD goes bad or gets damaged? What happens if, for any number of reasons, you need to replace the Wii? (The games are locked to a specific console.)
I certainly want to see a solution for the not-enough-storage problem, but even that still won't be enough for me to feel secure in the idea of paying for ultra-DRMed downloads.
Mr Khan @ Jul 16th 2008 7:38PM
As if, somehow, to totally contradict what Iwata, Shiggy, and even Fischer said
Who is right, then?
J rod @ Jul 16th 2008 7:43PM
Well this is a kick in the pants.
Which one is the liar? Shiggy or Charlie Scibetta? That's the new question.
Phil @ Jul 17th 2008 12:05AM
The corporate douchebag.
tkAshur @ Jul 16th 2008 8:15PM
Wow, I'm tired of this. I was thinking of getting a game this afternoon...but I think from here on out I'm officially done with VC...even when they might fix the problem...I might not be so fogiving...this is dumb.
Tony @ Jul 16th 2008 8:16PM
Guess it will be time to trade in my wii for a 360 soon. I need a storage solution, and am tired of getting dissed my NOA. My patience is running thin...
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 16th 2008 8:23PM
Who are you going to trust: Shigy Miyamoto or Joe Fucktard?
I rest my case
zeldazeppelin @ Jul 16th 2008 9:11PM
Im trusting shiggy of course lol
Atlantis1982 @ Jul 16th 2008 8:32PM
Waaah waaah waaah! "I am done with Wii cause of no hard drive, wah wah wah", oh grow up. You sound more retarded than this retarded issue.
zeldazeppelin @ Jul 16th 2008 9:11PM
man this system
Josh @ Jul 17th 2008 8:47AM
Not that they really care since they're already making money hand over fist but they've actually lost quite a bit of my $$.
I bought the Wii partly because of the Virtual Console promise. I've downloaded 15 games and started to run a bit tight on space. I'm not interested in the memory card shuffle or the delete and redownload and I will not buy anything else until a better solution is presented to us.
It's a shame because there are still a bunch of VC games I want and there are a number of WiiWare titles I was interested in.
Until a solution comes along, my money (I'm a content whore) goes to XBLA and the PSN.
TVGenius @ Jul 17th 2008 10:53AM
Sorry, but when the only 'broadband' I can get only gets 1 coin across the screen for every 2-3 passes by Mario (and the 10-coin insanity usually lasts about 5 minutes), I don't want to delete and re-download anything ever.
chefgon_ign @ Jul 17th 2008 12:42PM
Nintendo keeps spouting off this same explanation as if we're suddenly going to go "oooohhh! I didn't know you could redownload stuff! Problem solved!"
We don't want to memory-manage a gaming console. We want to play games on it. All we're trying to do is hand over big bags of cash to Nintendo in the form of a hard drive purchase and additional software downloads. Why are they so against that?
