E308: A new Pikmin sprouts!

Shigeru Miyamoto just dropped the most mega of tons over at Nintendo's 2008 E3 Developer Roundtable, and in the most understated way possible. Speaking to a crowd of around 100 press members, Shiggy casually announced: "We're making Pikmin." And that was it: a mere three words, but some of the most precious we've heard yet during this year's E3. You can see the team's response above, but how about you? Delighted, or what?

Fortunately, Pikmin's one of the few games out there these days that actually cares more about gameplay than story, so you should be good.

The spotlight shines, the music is playing, the trumpets sound and Pikmin 3 is announced in the glory it deserves. I loved the original and was okay with the second game hopefully they can put a good stort and controls in to draw me back. Thanks Nintendo!

That just proves how cool Nintendo and Wii are. While MS and SONY eagerly announce new games during the E3 conference, Nintendo just casually announces that they're working on Pikmin as if it's no big deal. Heh, now that's what I call confidence.

I am approaching 30 too and I am wondering if you really played Pikmin before? Pikmin has a lot of substance to offer.

If you don't like cute, why do you have a Nintendo console? No offense, but I can't think of many 1st party games from Nintendo that couldn't be thought of as cute in some way or another.
Pikmin, AC, Mario, SSB, Mario Kart, all the Mario Sports games, Starfox......all cute in some way...
Ok, maybe F-Zero and Metroid are more serious... but seriously that's about it. Even Zelda had it's cute moments lol with Windwaker :).

I have to agree with you here.
I'm not saying Animal Crossing and Pikmin are bad games but I was hoping for something with a story line.
I REALLY wanted them to show some Disaster: Day of Crisis... but it didn't happen. The three announcements that I'm most excited about are:
Wii Speak
Dead Rising Wii
Wii MotionPlus (however I'll reserve judgement until I see how well it's utilized and how much it costs)

yes i played pikmin....it was fun 7 years ago or so, but i want substance. Throwing around mulitcolored aliens to do your bidding maybe be an interesting puzzle game but ultimately it's still just another puzzle game.
I have a Nintendo console cause i can afford it. How ya like that? I was probably playing Nintendo before you were born. And i've spent over 500 bucks on the current incarnation, with all the controllers and numchucks and the like. So I don't think it's unreasonable for me to be pissed at Reggie for thinking Animal Crossing is a hardcore title. If AC is hardcore gaming...that makes Mary Poppin's a porno.

I'm happy for now, but with Nintendo's current track-record is anyone else worried that it's only a matter of time before it's revealed that the game is controlled by the Balance Board and all actions are performed by shaking the remote and nunchuk like a demented baboon?

Only ever played the two player battle mode. And I think it's the best game ever. I'm surprised I can't find proper strats for it. I thought it would be quite popular.
If anything I just want P3 with online battle mode. It's as good as starcraft, and the only RTS worthy on the console.
