A trip to the dentist becomes a treat thanks to the DS

One dentist practice is pioneering a new, better way to handle folks stuck in the waiting room. As seen above, courtesy of flickr user tarabrown, the choice between magazines and some sweet handhelds is available to folks who find themselves waiting on their dentist. No word in the way of what games are available, but this is just an all-around great idea.

Seriously, for how cheap a DS is (or an original GBA, for that matter), we imagine a practice could just snag a copy of Brain Age and Nintendogs and have their waiting room content and at ease while they, uh ... wait. Might help with those few who become pretty irate when forced to park it in the waiting room.

According to Tara, the practice is run by one Dr. Jade Kim and located in Seattle, WA. You can check out the website right here. Apparently, the DS had Mario Kart DS in there. Awesome!

Eh, it's hardly new. The dentist I used to go to (John Sechena, also in Seattle!) first had a SNES in his waiting room, but later changed that to a PSX. I don't know what he's got now...wouldn't be surprised to find out that he's sporting a 360 or something, but still.

...maybe...maybe Seattle dentists are naturally gamers?

The orthodontists I saw for 12 years (http://www.gradyandkastnerorthodontics.com/) have had Super Mario 64 in their waiting room since the game came out. Memories!

It seemed weird to spend so much money on handhelds given their tendency to walk off, but after checking her website, the rest of this lady's office is equally uh...extravagant. Massage chairs? Paraffin wax dips?!

A.) She must be raking it in.
B.) This is the girliest dentist's office I've ever HEARD of.

i remember sitting at the dentist's office playing paperboy on the old school chunky game boy about 12-15 years ago. good times.

My orthodontist, from my experience there, went from a Dreamcast, PS2, 360, PS3, then Wii. They have the Wii as of now, and it has Mario Kart.

They had the most ghetto PS3 security device ever... They duct taped the USB cable to the controller and had a bunch of thin metal rings wrapped around it.

If they had a Gamecube and had Super Mario Sunshine then they could have the level where Mario has to clean the giant eel's teeth on all the time. Not the worst way to teach kids about dental hygiene.

Yeah, sounds great. but i also would think this can create a problem for kids and adults who suddenly become addicted heh. I can just imagine...."Umm, Pascual, the dentist will see you now." Pascual: "NO!, wait just a little longer." Or, the demon kids from hell, " GRARRRRR, WAAAAHHHHH, I don't wanna go home, I wanna stay and play the game!!!." Or, "It's MINE!!! I want to take it home!"
