This Chrono Trigger trailer speaks our language
We posted a trailer a few days back that let us bask in the glory that is Chrono Trigger DS, and it was wonderful. There was just one, teensy weensy problem, though -- it was in Japanese.
Yet, now you can enjoy the trailer in English by watching the video above, or head on over to the official (North American) website to see it in higher quality. Normally we'd say it's not worth the effort for a few text changes here and there, but then again, we're not normally writing about Chrono Trigger DS.
We recommend that those of you who find yourselves chronically obsessed with Chrono Trigger sit down and give it a watch.
[Thanks, T.J.!]

Chrono Trigger DS has gotten so much coverage on here. It makes me feel all warm and timetravelly inside.

I know, really. Just when I think my initial excitement is going to die down, I come on this site again and see yet another little blurb about it. We don't know anything new over a week later, but there have been like ten posts about the game!

Oh god.

Still no word on load times or not... :(
But this brings back memories! *Rushes off to play*

I highly doubt there will be any distinguishable load times. DS carts are relatively quick so barring awful programming, it should be pretty snappy.

Seriously, July to December of 2008 has to be the best period in history for video games. There are SO MANY good games coming out in such a short period. It's not fair.
(Of course, I say this as an RPG fan. People who aren't into that may not give a toss about how cool it is to be getting Disgaea DS and Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest IV and on and on and on.....)

You forgot to mention Rhapsody:A Musical Adventure for the DS !!! DX
Seriously though , The second half of 2008 and unbelievable ! xD I've never been so happy x3 . But still , What I'm wishing for the most hasn't showed up .... Megaman Legends 3 ... D'= !!!

I'm happy to see Chrono Trigger being re-released. I really am.
But I can't help but feel a little let down, if the graphics and music remain exactly the same as back in the SNES days. With a trailer that uses words like "after 13 years," one would hope they would put in a little more effort than just a direct port that would look just as good on the GBAdvance.
I'm not hoping for much, but if the sprites could be a touch more detailed, more fluid perhaps? And the music not sound like it was piped out of a midi player? The DS has proven itself quite capable of handling nice animations and music (The World Ends With You, for example), and it would be a complete waste of the system not to take advantage of it(Oh Phoenix Wright 2,3) Also, if they were to retool the translation a bit? I remember hearing complaints about the translation job CT suffered from.

I think square is worried that if they change the graphics, or the music, too much that it'll detract from the game.
The sprite graphics still look good even today, and Chrono Trigger did an incredible job of conveying emotion and anything else through them. Honestly, a new remake of the graphics would hurt the game and not help.
Music wise I believe the original composer will be doing "new" music for it. What I got out of this is that he will pretty much be updating the old music, which I'm fine with. The old music is incredible though and I don't think anyone, even those who dislike the game, could argue that.

I don't mean anything like polygons or the like (Though Chrono Cross did go that way, and looked rather nice), but maybe just larger sprites, more frames of animation. I can't think of a reason why even old-school players would object to those.
And yes, the original music was fantastic. Now, if it just sounded like it came from instruments....

I'm so excited about this game, I broke out the Chrono Trigger piano arrangement book and had my friend play some tunes. This was after we both drunkenly yelled at another friend about how perfect the game is.

Man, I can't believe it's been 13 years. Then again, I do recall downloading (ever so slowly) *MP2's* (yes, whippersnappers, that's not mp3) of CT theme music on my Windows 3.11 box. Ah, the good ol' days. ;)
