We imagine you game quite a bit on the handheld, too. So, we have to ask: what is your recent favorite game? What game have you played lately that has blown you away? A little game called Space Invaders Extreme? Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2? Well, what game have you played lately that has been just plain great?

Is World Ends With You not recent enough? Because not only has that spent inordinate amounts of time in my DS, it has kind of ruined FFTA2:GOTR for me by comparison.

TWEWY is fine since it's still my favorite too. I've never played an rpg this long (records show 200+hrs of play time including overnight mingle time and just playing the in-game tracks) and i'm still 2 pins away from completing everything
ozroller @ Jul 9th 2008 9:16AM
Yeah, I would also say that TWEWY is the only Ds game that has really caught my fancy this year. FFTA2 is nice and all, but it's not as gripping as TWEWY

After I beat the postgame, the appeal faded a little for me, but it gave me a solid 60-80 hours, and my fiance played it to boot. Well worth the original $40 price.

Etrian Oddysey II. I can't put it down.

My last great game was Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword. I've had my time with Space Invaders Extreme and I liked it, but it was not GREAT in my book. I have however rediscovered Advance Wars Days of Ruin a couple of days ago, and I just can't tear myself off of it now.

Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer isn't that recent, but I only just bought it, and I'm finding it to be a wonderful game. It's simpler than a lot of PC roguelikes, but the persistent aspects are neat, the graphics are shiny, and the gameplay's more than fun enough to keep me coming back.
Also, The World Ends With You.
I was going to buy FFTA2:GotR, but spent my money on non-DS stuff instead.

It's between Ninja Gaiden, TWEWY, and Professor Layton. I can't decide between the three at the moment. They all have their strengths and I enjoy them all for very different reasons.
Can't wait to try out Space Invaders, though.

I'm enjoying Trauma Center UTK2, the story is great so far (I'm on chapter 5), but the operations mostly seem a little same-y. Most a reused or slightly tweaked from the previous games. It's too bad, although the gameplay is spot on.
I didn't have enough time with TWEWY before Grand Theft Auto IV hit and obliterated all my other games for over a month. I hope to go back to it soon, as it was really a special game.

Etrain Odyssey II ^_^ ♪
I played EO1 for hours every day for three weeks, but EO2 is shaping up to be an even better experience. I'm not sure anything could keep this from being the game of the year.
FantomRedux @ Jul 9th 2008 10:11AM
TWEWY had me gripped for a fair few weeks, but then I started playing something else (can't remember) once I completed it, and now I have FFTA2 to keep me happy :). Loved the first one, love this one even more ^_^
Sean @ Jul 9th 2008 10:38AM
I have been playing FFTA2 since it's release and it is still right next to me on my desk. Love the game...
Ashley @ Jul 9th 2008 6:18PM
If I loved EOII and TWEWY, is this also for me?
Matt G. @ Jul 9th 2008 11:18AM
I'm currently in the middle of LoZ:PH, but I think Layton earlier this year took the cake for most surprisingly awesome DS game ever.
Chris L @ Jul 9th 2008 11:47AM
TWEWY and Soul Bubbles (even though it's really easy and a bit formulaic, it's pretty addicting)
Alex @ Jul 9th 2008 12:42PM
Soul Bubbles! Little to no fanfare but a wonderful, relaxing puzzle/platformer style game that's reminiscent of Lost Winds. Highly recommended!
Holden @ Jul 9th 2008 2:22PM
Master of Illusion, yo!
Nah, I'm kidding - that's not recent.

I've only purchased two new DS games recently, those being TWEWY and Trauma Center UtK2. Out of the both of them, I've liked Trauma Center UtK2 better thus far. TWEWY is fun, but I bought it partially on hype and didn't find it as revolutionary as many people were building it up to be. Sticking the new Trauma Center cart into the DS was like seeing an old friend again--the original was one of my first and is still one of my favorite DS games. The extra measure of fine-tuning and polish present in this one is amazing.
I'll probably buy Space Invaders Extreme next month, and I've held out long enough on Layton that I'll probably just put it on a Christmas list. Most of what I'm looking forward to is yet to come--Disgaea DS, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, Black Sigil, Time Hollow, A Witch's Tale, etc.
Roto13 @ Jul 9th 2008 1:11PM
I have over 60 hours logged so far into FFTA2, and I'm not slowing down any time soon. It's that awesome. :P
SmileyDude @ Jul 9th 2008 1:55PM
Geometry Wars: Galaxies -- i've now got a sore finger from holding that stylus for long periods of time.
This game got me back into playing my DS more (not that I had ever really stopped)...
izzy @ Jul 9th 2008 2:22PM
Space Invaders Extreme, probably cause it was only $20
automagv @ Jul 10th 2008 7:06AM
Space Invaders Extreme + Taito Paddle = A time sucking vortex. It's awesome. The "one more game" mantra is in full effect.
