Brawl Stage of the Week: Freezer Room
It may not be the prettiest stage we've ever seen, but we found ourselves having a great time while playing in Matt M.'s Freezer Room. We didn't really understand the title at first, as we originally only noticed the little ice platform up top in this very tall stage -- one ice platform does not a "freezer room" make! Once we started brawling, though, we saw the little enclosed area at the bottom with an ice floor, and everything made much more sense.

Freezer Room by Matt M.
There's a randomness to the "architecture" (if you will) in this stage that doesn't always make sense, like the falling boxes on the sides. Taking things like that into consideration, this stage seems to have a fair amount of gimmicks, and yet that doesn't mean they don't work. In fact, we even enjoyed some of the quirky pieces we found in this level, since we don't see them often in custom stages.
We know a lot of folks don't like fighting in enclosed areas, but Freezer Room is about more than the little freezer area below. There are other places to duke it out, too, which are more comfortable for straight-up brawling. Still, beware of the enclosed space, as any savvy opponent will probably retreat there if his or her damage is too high. Keep in mind, though, that enclosed spaces are also good for dealing out a lot of damage in a short amount of time.

Am I the only Brawler who *hates* ladders?
Metayoshi @ Jul 8th 2008 4:17PM
Believe me, I hate ladders too.
Shadow31 @ Jul 8th 2008 4:30PM
You are definitely NOT alone. In fact, I don't know many people who LIKE ladders. One of the few badly executed ideas in Brawl, and the main reason I dislike the only new DK stages in the game. No, ladders do not feel in the Brawl spirit of aerial combat.
Nebinator @ Jul 8th 2008 8:15PM
No, probably not, Phil. But we would know because everyone (including me) is too busy hating tripping.

ladders belong at the very bottom of a tall stage as a last resort (and directly under falling blocks- which are capable of knocking people off those lifelines)

Wasn't there a Halo stage released last week (or relatively recently, anyway) that looks like this...
Alright, I was slightly wrong...
