Mega Man 9 caps a mini-Mega Man festival in Japan
In an effort to help build anticipation for Mega Man 9, and probably to prepare new players who don't realize how brutal Mega Man games can be, Capcom announced that the first two games in the series will be released on the Virtual Console in the two months leading up to the September release of the new WiiWare game.
Rockman will be released this month, according to both Capcom and Nintendo, whose VC lineup page has been updated to reflect this surprise announcement. Rockman 2: Dr. Wily no Nazo (Mega Man 2: The Riddle of Dr. Wily) will come out in August.
Both of these games have been out in Europe for quite some time, so the real surprise isn't that they're being released in Japan, it's why they haven't been released yet -- and it would seem that we have our answer now. Capcom was waiting until they could start promoting Mega Man 9.

So why aren't they out in North America? I'd buy them.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 5th 2008 12:14PM
That's the problem. Only you would buy them.
JDavis @ Jul 5th 2008 12:48PM
I'd buy them if I didn't already have the collection for PS2
psyborg @ Jul 5th 2008 12:47PM
Uhh, you really think Roto is the only person that would buy MegaMan 1 and 2?
Really?
SoshiKitai @ Jul 5th 2008 1:33PM
Don't worry, in an effort to try to sound mean... Lord Bowser tends to say really stupid biased things.
...and this'd be the most ignorant factoid he/she's given yet.

"That's the problem. Only you would buy them."
The idea that I'm the only person in North America who would buy two of the most classic NES games ever released is among the most idiotic things I've ever heard. Kudos to you.
Josh @ Jul 5th 2008 2:16PM
Sorry, I've never really played the series, so I'd buy them, too.

Gotta say, i just disliked this version of the song!!!
I love the song, but this version, my ears bleed, hurt, man, but the video was great, xDDDD
Man, megaman 1 and 2 on VC, if I hadn't had em already on my nes emulator, i'd buy em

no offense, but i dont see whats so great about mega man. if you want a great game, its mario & sonic at the olympics! jk, but still i dont understand all the hype.
brighenne @ Jul 5th 2008 2:43PM
That is indeed the worst song I have ever heard.

Roto, what he means is that Mega Man 1-8 and the two arcade games are available for GCN and PS2, for like $15. That's most likely the reason why none of the games have been released in NA, because to the best of my knowledge, NA was the only location to get the collection.
So, people who know about the collection weigh $15 for 10 games, or $5 for one.

I'm sorry but that has got to the worst game video ever! What a piece of crap and music is ridiculous. Sometimes I just don't understand Japanese. Hopefully the MegaMan 9 game will look nothing like what i saw on that video.
CamranChaos @ Jul 5th 2008 6:57PM
That was just a video about the amazingness of Mega Man 2. It's not an actual game.
But, yeah. My ears hurt...
Drahken @ Jul 5th 2008 6:07PM
So yeah. Airman. He can't be beaten.
And was the moment in that video when Wood Man gives a thumbs up as he's engulfed in flames an animated Mega Man reference to Terminator 2?
Core2 @ Jul 5th 2008 9:07PM
That's great news, but in the long run Mega-Man Anniversery Collection for the Gamecube ends up cheaper than buying the originals individually on the VC, isn't it?
Especially considering gaming stores are putting GC games on clearence/they're all gone by now :P
Plus it's games 1-8 and a couple bonuses, I think. So it's got some not even released. MUCH cheaper in the long run.
I got it for my birthday many years ago and misplaced it and just found it yesterday. I'm gonna go play it on the Wii now.

You know, that song sounded like some Japanese pop song on top of the NESkimos version of the Wily's castle theme.
Mickey @ Jul 6th 2008 2:28AM
that guy singing was HORRIBLE. but that song is awesome.
TJF588 @ Jul 6th 2008 4:54AM
I think my rationalization is that the screechy, irritating voice was DOCTOR WOWEE and the calmer one was Mega-- I mean, Rock Man (srsly, I think of a boulder before I think of a music genre(s)). I hope this is right...

I love "Okkusenman." :D
(that song you just heard)
Granted, the original is a bit grating. But there are A LOT of covers. This one is my personal favorite:

The song lyrics actually have nothing to do with Megaman/Rockman, for those who didn't know. It actually tells the tale of someone's forgotten childhood memories and the such. Also something about watching Ultraman.
That video was alright. The models looked pretty dopey, the animation was good.
