DS Daily: Please stop making games for (blank) genre
Do you know how many DS games there are? Let us get out our calculators ... with our instruments we've reached the conclusion that the total is a lot. You heard it here first. What genre, though, do you think needs to take a break from the DS? Whether it's because there's a glut of such titles or because you hate that type of game, which genre do you think needs to be abandoned for a while?

Lord Bowser @ Jul 5th 2008 10:37AM
Enough training games.
ggamdizzle @ Jul 5th 2008 10:39AM
every single game that ends with a "z", i.e. Dogz, Catz, Ponyz, UBIz Retardz...
Pixel-One @ Jul 5th 2008 11:39PM
What he said.
TJF588 @ Jul 6th 2008 2:52AM
Very agreed.
shadowchaoscontrol @ Jul 5th 2008 10:39AM
i would say enough imagine and petz games, oh until i dunno, the end of time
gerard @ Jul 5th 2008 10:45AM
animal games -_-
Char6296 @ Jul 5th 2008 10:50AM
Those games designed for "girl gamers" by Ubisoft. Stop them, they're so sexist against us. And all of the joke training games are getting thin, so they should be stopped, too. Abuse some other successful handheld!
Donald @ Jul 5th 2008 12:08PM
I was just going to put down "Anything made by UbiSoft" but that's a good summation of my thoughts on the subject.
Klerud @ Jul 5th 2008 11:25AM
Any type of shovelware. Imagine, *z, SimpleDS, poor ports, training games etc. I also think FPS-games should stay off the platform. They just don't work!
To flip the question; what genres need more games?
RTS. Strategy games work extremely well with touch screen controls.
PS3 Darklighter @ Jul 5th 2008 11:41AM
ANY kind of casual game. No more virtual pets, puzzle games, brain trainers, or any more of that crap. If people want to play causal games they should just play the ones on their computers. Leaving gaming to real gamers.
Kimiko @ Jul 5th 2008 11:53AM
RTS games. There are way too many of those. It seems as if every respectable RPG game/series is being turned into an RTS or two or three. Stop it already. We can never have too many RPGs, but no one needs more than a few RTSs.
aj @ Jul 5th 2008 11:54PM
I agree.
And ironically, there are is no really good chess game on the DS, but about a thousand strategy games.
Just give me chess. That's all I really want. Chessmaster DS. Come on. Battlechess DS? Lego Chess? Anything!
religiousjedi @ Jul 5th 2008 12:05PM
Stop with the RPG's!!!!!!! >_
aj @ Jul 5th 2008 11:57PM
As an RPG enthusiast, I must say that you offend me, good sir.
If anything, I say MORE RPGs. In North America, at least. Just throw a couple more JRPGs into the English market. I think our lives would be vastly improved with some Xenogears 1 & 2, really.
iofthestorm @ Jul 6th 2008 4:21AM
Yes, more JRPGs please! And more RTS too, I don't know what's wrong with the above posters. I wouldn't mind a complete lack of X training games though.
thesycophant @ Jul 5th 2008 12:27PM
...Keep making everything?
Matthew @ Jul 6th 2008 4:34PM
I agree, not enough saturation!
Hamster @ Jul 5th 2008 12:42PM
Agree with the general consensus here. Any casual shovelware; training games (be they brain, language, weight-loss, etc), baby games and pet games can piss off.
A good start would be to ban Ubisoft from making DS games/z.
Ashley @ Jul 6th 2008 11:36AM
Hey, I LIKE virtual pets games. They can keeping making those ... as long as they're any good ...
Covarr @ Jul 5th 2008 1:45PM
Good games. I'm sick and tired of stuff like TWEWY and NSMB and FFTA2 and Mario Kart. Please, give the good games a rest, developers.
Zachary Hinchliffe @ Jul 5th 2008 3:45PM
i laughed, +1
Jacksons @ Jul 5th 2008 1:50PM
The shelves have been pretty stocked with terrible games as of late. It doesn't bother me, but I could really go for more action games.
eugaet @ Jul 5th 2008 1:51PM
I don't have a problem w/ any genres released on the DS or any other platform. The more games, the better. A game that doesn't appeal to you may be (and probably is) a game that appeals to many others.
Saying that they shouldn't release certain games on the DS because you don't like them is one of the stupidest, whiniest things I've ever heard. It's like saying no one should be allowed to publish non-fiction books because they suck and fiction is obviously better.
Not that I imagine many of the commenters here are into literature, based on their comments. There, I can be irrational, too.
BTW, Nintendogs? Pretty cool game. Just got it recently. I play it between sessions of No More Heroes.
Candace Savino @ Jul 7th 2008 12:42PM
Just to clarify, I'm not saying from the picture that I dislike Nintendogs, just that the pet sim genre has been done to death on the DS.
As for the rest, is there anything really wrong with some healthy discussion, even if it is more on the "whiney" side? It's just a question of oversaturation, really. A little healthy venting never hurt anyone :)
dagguis @ Aug 11th 2008 2:20AM
IMO is whinnier to say to people how they have to think or what do they have to do, we are only saying that we are f.. tired of the same generic game.
kittykatlaura123 @ Jul 5th 2008 2:12PM
No more pet, fashion, or baby games PLEASE. It breaks my heart when I see parents suggesting that their kids buy these because it looks "fun."
Char6296 @ Jul 7th 2008 3:18PM
I reckon pet games are alright... if done well. Nintendogs is an example of a great pet game. Imagine XXXXz is an example of FAIL.
bull @ Jul 6th 2008 11:49AM
Japanese-only games.
Please, stop making new games and start translating(esp the Tales series). They can even do an English version first.
I know this is dumb but:
Almnost anyone who can afford a handheld can afford a PC and internet. It means they are somewhat familiar with the language, not to say very good. What age are we living in? The world is globalizing, English should be the first language for games.
Btw, I'm asian so dont think English is my mother tongue.
Pedroion @ Jul 5th 2008 3:03PM
Enough Non-Games.
I can't take it anymore!
LocalToast @ Jul 5th 2008 4:17PM
There's well over 2000 DS games worldwide.
Anyway, I want REAL games. I'm tired of these "self-help" games.
lorddshadow @ Jul 5th 2008 4:27PM
Ubisoft should make self help games for themselves.
"How to Make a Good Game on DS: Gamer's Revenge" or something to that effect.
aj @ Jul 5th 2008 5:41PM
No more movie tie-in games. Though this is just a general problem, not specific to the DS, but still....you go into a video game store, they don't have anything but 90 copies of Kung Fu Panda or Wall E or whatever Monsters, Inc.
I'm also getting tired of all the strategy games. I like strategy games, but it's getting a bit silly when every week practically there's a new one. Release an RPG once in a while. It's okay.
T.K. @ Jul 5th 2008 7:22PM
Crap games! There are so many games released each week and the most if not all of them are ridiculously dumb movie-port games are the worst! or those stupid petz games... It has gotten ridiculous how low video game companies are getting.
TJF588 @ Jul 6th 2008 2:51AM
Anything based on a TV show that doesn't intristically involve action[s], though with all the instrument/vocal-based games out there, things like Hanna Monsuck have an excuse to be on something with more inputs than on/off and volume/channel up/down.
SiK99 @ Jul 6th 2008 8:32AM
Enough RPGs...or at least fewer of them. Lets face it, anyone who can afford to buy the hundreds of RPGs on the DS doesn't have time to play them all because they are working too much. And those who don't work too much probably can't afford them all. Whats an obsessive collector/gamer to do?
drgnstp @ Jul 7th 2008 12:43PM
Note:First time poster
Its the Megaman games, they need to stop whoring him out
ocelot67 @ Jul 7th 2008 1:24AM
sportz gamez
aDSguy @ Jul 7th 2008 2:42AM
i h8 crappy games lol enuf said.
i agreee with alot of ppl, get the jap games translated
like jump ultimate stars =)
o ya we need less virtual pet games
Morning Toast @ Jul 7th 2008 12:36PM
Please give the RPGs a rest - talk about a genre that's just about spent.
And there's way too many pet games. Not that there shouldn't be pet games, but a dog is a dog.
The DS needs more arcade-style games...Games that you can pick up, play for 15 minutes, and drop without having to worry.
Deozaan @ Jul 7th 2008 9:50PM
Please stop making games for the Shovelware genre.
Ethd @ Jul 15th 2008 1:28PM
Training. Enough said. Take a console and handheld generation-long break. I have my DS to play, not learn.
Otherwise, I can't say I agree much with many others who've posted their opinions here. If executed correctly, all genres can have their standout games and they don't need to quit. I suppose even training games can. But they should still take a break.
