Mega Man 9 looks great, sounds great, did we mention looks great?
We're trying to think of words to describe how we felt when we saw the Mega Man 9 screens at Games Radar, but there's just too much emotion to articulate. As if the scans weren't legendary enough with their retro, 8-bit goodness, the screens just make us downright giddy. There's not much else to say, except that we're so in love with Capcom right now.
Games Radar has some delightful details on the game, too, which just add some extra oomph to an already oomph-tastic game. For one, beloved Mega Man designer Keiji Inafune was especially involved in the making of Mega Man 9, even creating the bosses this time around. As for the story, it still revolves around our favorite villain Dr. Wily, but this time he has the public on his side, convincing them that Dr. Light is the bad guy. Silly public.
That's not all, though -- according to Games Radar, this game is hard. Not this hard, but still difficult. We say, bring it. You know what else it has? A lot of music from Mega Man 2, also known as one of the best video game soundtracks of all time.
Lastly (but not least), Games Radar has the skinny on Mega Man 9's bosses, including one that's a woman robot named Splash Woman. Others include Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Hornet Man, Tornado Man, Concrete Man, Maga Man, and Plug Man. Man alive, that's a lot of mans.
Now you can stop reading and look at the screens (just click on the "Source" link or post image, as per usual). You might want to have some tissues handy, because they may just bring tears of joy to your eyes.

I've put my credit card number and information on an index card, stuffed it into an envelope, and will mail it to Capcom. I officially give Capcom permission to charge my credit card whatever they please*, for the utter joy they have brought me in developing this game.
I loved every single NES Mega Man. I still play them fairly regularly. The atrocities that have been inflicted on my little blue robot friend in recent games makes me weep. I have been longing for a real mega man release since....well....since the last real mega man release.
*ok not whatever they please. But I would pay an obscene amount of money for this game.
Roto13 @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:47PM
Harder than the old Mega Man games? Because I apparently have some kind of super Mega Man playing powers and I haven't had that much trouble with them. xD
Ghen @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:28PM
sure they're easy when you have emulation and/or the kill order ;)
Roto13 @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:06PM
I was playing the Anniversary Collection version without hints. The Game Cube version, too, where they screwed up the controls. ;P
Ridgecity @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:32PM
emulating with state saves don't count. Just by saying you think megaman games are easy, it's clear you are cheating or have some kind of special Nintendo timing chip on your brain...
Roto13 @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:38PM
I wasn't cheating! Like I said, I wasn't even using an emulator so I didn't have savestates. I was even using a crappy control scheme.
Peter Vazkey @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:57PM
YES! I can't wait for this game!
SoshiKitai @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:01PM
I'm not even a huge megaman fan, and I still think this is triple-10-awesome.
I'm gettin' it. We need more games like this.
Britai @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:21PM
Are the sprites going to flicker? It won't feel authentic unless there's constant flickering.
psyborg @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:30PM
So. Awesome.
Lijik @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:42PM
Wait, music directly from Megaman 2? Please tell me those are temp tracks, as much as I love MM2's souncdtrack I was looking forward to hearing new music in this game.
Roto13 @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:08PM
I'm guessing it'll just be the stage select music that's reused from Mega Man II.
bruce @ Jul 4th 2008 1:20AM
My wife doesn't understand why I just yelled "This is the happiest day of my life!" Either that, or she's just upset
Joop @ Jul 3rd 2008 7:19PM
Is anyone else bothered by the fact that it's being done in nes-era graphics? I'm all for retro and nostalgic graphics in ports of classics, but when a NEW games does it, it just feels...cheapened. Powered Up for the PSP was absolutely charming...but this just feels like when clothing companies pre-fade and rip shirts/jeans in order to make it appealingly vintage.
I never though I'd say it, hell MM was my all time favorite NES franchise growing up...but I think I may have to pass on this. I regularly bust out 2, 3, and X on emulators, but something about this just seems wrong.
theboy @ Jul 3rd 2008 7:43PM
Thank god, i was waiting for someone to say something like that. I mean seriously if they were going to do this they at least shouldnt not have called it "9." I'm sure i'll love this and it'll be fun, but the thought just upsets me more of what it COULD have been. A la megaman 8's gorgeous 2d graphics and awesome music. ::sigh:: they shouldve called it like 2.5 or 1.5 or something.
Ridgecity @ Jul 3rd 2008 7:45PM
Obviously, this game isn't aimed at you since you liked Megaman for PSP.
Joop @ Jul 3rd 2008 9:15PM
Ridge, if they made a game not aimed at people who consider the original NES series the greatest series of that generation, then they can just hang it up now. 8 bits was just fine, when I was 8.
Ridgecity @ Jul 3rd 2008 7:44PM
This game will test how hardcore you are, this is will a new speedrun test I'm sure-. All we need now it's for rare to make a Battletoads bike racing game for the nes.
Megaman 9, this will be called Megaman 2.0 for anyone that loves the games.
Drahken @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:32PM
Shut up, you! They might here you. Don't EVER suggest they dredge up Battletoads once more. I still have nightmares of that game. I still wake up screaming in the night. Sometimes, I swear I can still feel the blisters on my fingers....
Drahken @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:23PM
Bear with me, cuz I'm pretty long winded and I'm a HUGE Mega Man fan.
I literally cannot wait for this game. Literally. When the news of this game came out, I devised a potion so I could skip forward to its release. Unfortunately I took one drop too many and overshot it by a century. (Hail to the king, baby!)
Anyhoo, yeah, I'm excited. I have to wonder about the Robot Masters, though. In the past, they've always been created as a result of contests in Japan. But they couldn't have done that this time without spoiling the surprise. Which would mean they were all designed completely in-house. Which begs the question: Why Splash WOman? I understand that they've exhausted ideas for Robot Masters already. 46 in just the numbered games in the main series. That doesn't even count guys like Magic Man and Pirate Man in the tertiary games like Mega Man and Bass. So Masters like Hornet Man are going to happen. (50 bucks says his weapon is Hornet Shield.) Actually, they managed to make most of them pretty good. But why break tradition and have Splash WO-man. I'm not sexist or anything. It just seems odd to break formula in a game that they're intentionally going for nostalgia. And Splash is actually a good name. They should have used one of the goofier guys to be the lady. Like Concrete Man. Or PLUG man.
Here are my predictions for the Robot Masters, although they're almost all fairly apparent from their names. Splash Woman is obviously the water guy. Her weapon is going to be similar to Wave Man's: a rush of water along the ground. Concrete Man is the big chunky rock guy like Guts Man and Stone Man in the past. Tornado Man is obviously the air man like, um, Wind Man. Magma Man is obviously the fire guy and my guess is his weapon will be a lava/fire ball that'll spatter in several directions on impact. Plug Man is obviously the electric guy. The only way his weapon won't be an electric shot is if it literally shoots plugs. Galaxy Man and Jewel Man are a tossup. Either of them could be the "illusionary" guy like Flash Man, Bright Man, or Gemini Man. I'm thinking it'll be Jewel Man as Galaxy Man has other possibilities and the only other thing Jewel Man could do is to shoot jewels like Crystal Man. And they already have Concrete Man for this. (But then again, Crystal Man and Stone Man were together.) "Illusionary" guy's weapon will of course be a time stop. Galaxy Man could also be the vanilla guy who just shoots his particular element like Needle Man or (similar to Galaxy) Star Man. Or he could have some like Gravity Crush. And finally, Hornet Man. He's the nature guy and as I already said, I can almost guarantee he'll have a Hornet Shield.
Don't try telling The Overlord from over in the comments for the first Mega Man 9 article that this game looks good. He's dead set that the game looks and plays like crap despite the sparse details on it so far.
milan @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:32PM
Wow longest comment I remember in my 15+ months reading wiifanboy.. Anyone remember any longer real posts?
Anyways, I was already so pumped for this game (it still almost seems like its some sort of elabortate hoax!). Your post just gave me a whole crash course on deep megaman understanding. I am now more excited, about as excited as you! Nice game speculation!
Drahken @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:32PM
Nope. No one is longer. I just never shut up.
Soiden @ Jul 4th 2008 1:09AM
Well, perhaps these Robot Masters are also submited in the past by japanese, but got rejected at that time.
Drahken @ Jul 4th 2008 1:50AM
Hmmm. I never considered that. That's a definite possibility.
Brian Real @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:54PM
Splash Woman yeah yeah yeah! Splash Woman love love love! Fight! Fight! Mega Man! Fight! Fight! Everlasting Peace! Yaaaaaaaaaaah!!
