The DS Life: Out of habit

Though we try to keep our praise of public property vandalism to a minimum, there are some instances when we can't help but clap in our seats, humorless, like Orson Welles in Citizen Kane. This week's edition of The DS Life is one of those instances, our subject being a magnificent bit of street art spotted in Darmstadt, Germany and photographed by Joachim S. Müller. Say ten Hail Marys and bring yourself past the post break for the photo.

The saturnine purple against the warm orange and wicked red crosses really help this piece pop out. We love the concept, too -- a young nun taking a break from her solemn vows to focus on her other devotion, portable gaming.

It's not that much of a stretch to imagine a woman of God passing the time waiting at a bus stop with a handheld system, what with the ubiquity of casual titles like Brain Age and Nintendogs. If your mom, a woman with virtually no gaming experience (and a woman who we're very familiar with, biblically), can manage to play Flash Focus, is it that odd to see a nun playing Tetris?

Notice that the Game Boy's directional pad and buttons are positioned incorrectly -- perhaps the artist forgot to flip his stencil around? Or maybe they've been taking lessons from Kanji Dragon's boxart designers?
