Rummikub: tile-based technology
The Germans like it, and that's the most important thing. Rummikub has been around for decades, and won the 1990 Spiel des Jahres award. That's enough for a sale right here! The classic tile-based number game is coming to the DS from Engine Software. Plenty of traditional table and board games have made it to the DS, so there should be room for just one more little title! Rummikub is vaguely scheduled for a Q4 2008 release date, but we're expecting screens and updated information to surface very shortly.
In the meantime, you can probably pick up an original set and give it a try with friends in RL. This experience will feature a durable cardboard box to prevent scattering of pieces, a table surface made of genuine wood or water-resistant plastic, and real-time wireless conversation with up to three friends. You don't want to provide the snacks for more than that amount of people.

I bought the board game about two weeks ago. Pretty good stuff, but the graphics aren't realistic, and there's no frag grenades.

Rummikub!! I've been playing Rummikub since I was a kid. It's a great game if you can move around colors and numbers in your head. It's one of those games you'll totally love or that will totally frustrate you. Most of my friends don't enjoy because it requires "too much thinking."
You interact with the real game in a manner similar to if you dumped out a bunch of photos on a table and then tried to sort them chronologically. You really push around the tiles all over the table to make different combinations and sequences.
It takes up *a lot* of table space when you have a full 4-players (think like dominoes), so assuming this will have multiplayer options it could be great alternative to the real thing. Dare I say I'm all for board/table games on the DS if for nothing but because there's zero setup and zero clean-up?
But it's all about how they translate the game. If the game doesn't let me drag around tiles on the screen and drop them where I may while I'm "thinking too hard," then it might be kind of wonk. Or it might make it too easy, frankly. Here's hoping!
