Comparing the old and the new: Final Fantasy IV
A comparison video between the original SNES game and new DS remake of Final Fantasy IV is available for your viewing pleasure above. As one might expect, the DS title dwarfs the SNES game graphically, showing us a much more alive game world and bringing the events to life in better fashion. But, hey, we're not knocking the SNES game. We're all for the retro around here.
With the release of Final Fantasy IV getting closer and closer, who's ready to ignore their responsibilities for a week to play through this one?

Definitely a great improvement. But somehow it sounds strange to hear anime characters speak English. I suppose Japanese voices with English subtitles isn't possible?

Kain's voice amuses me and simultaneously kills me (just a little bit, on the inside.) I still can't say if I like it or hate it. But I'm amused by it.

I know , from the original version i thought Cecil was way tougher , but Kain sounds like the stronger one here . Like how they changed the script a bit . Makes it more modernish and less medival speech .

the improvements made between ff3 and this are insane. I will play the entire game in disbelief, unable to grasp that I'm still just playing a DS game.

It sounds perfectly natural to me. What's wrong with it?

Why yes Rosa, I do sleep in full black knight armor, thanks for asking

That's very impressive, but I really only want to know one thing when comparing the two... have they restored the "Spoony Bard" line or not?!?
Kimiko @ Jul 2nd 2008 6:52PM
I hope they left that in. I mean, it's one of the best known phrases from a video game ever, right? Probably right up there with 'All your base..'.
jadenguy @ Jul 2nd 2008 8:35PM
I'm certain they'd literally lose thounsands in sale if they removed that line, on principle alone.

FF2 for SNES was my first FF experience and single-handedly got me into RPG's. I will always have fond memories of this game!!!! The music takes me right back. Amazing soundtrack and game.

The game is everything I visualized the game could be - sure there could be 100 things that would make it better, or cooler, or more modern - but they'd probably detract from what made this game so cool in the beginning - a linear story line that keeps you interested in the characters and their stories. That's what makes games worth playing
