Wii Fanboy Poll: Castlevania coulda, woulda, shoulda?

The official announcement of Castlevania Judgment has given us all kinds of mixed emotions. Change can be a good thing, but whatever happened to, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?" We've pointed out before that only a minority of fighting games are actually good, as much as we love the genre. Then there's this whole 3D business that might cause some worry. On the other hand, though, we have promises of Wi-Fi battles, DS-Wii connectivity, and the neat idea of laying the smackdown with some of our favorite 'Vania characters.

What do you wish we were getting with Castlevania Wii? Something familiar, something new, or maybe just something new that's not a fighter? Cast your vote after the break.

Any way you slice it, Konami bringing Castlevania to the Wii is big news. If you thirst for more, check out Born for Wii, in which Castlevania was the latest title to be featured. Konami also has some other Wii titles in the works, such as Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked! and Rock Revolution.

Honestly... I think people are overreacting about this. Big whoop, a Castlevania fighter... is this going to kill the series? No, Castlevania is a great series. I love me the 2D Castlevanias, but there has yet to be a 3D one that wowed me. If you want a 2D Castlevania, THAT'S WHAT THE DS ONE IS FOR. My first choice for a Wii Castlevania would honestly be to reimagine it in 3D to recapture the original formula that made the series so great. They're reimagining the series; give it a chance, I doubt it will stick, and who knows? It could turn out good. It's not my first choice for a Castlevania Wii game, but like it or not, it's coming. You don't need to buy it. But it's not like it's the end of the world if you don't like it.

i wouldnt mind the fighter so much if i knew we would eventually be getting a bad ass 2-d game. if we only get ONE castlevania game for the wii, a 3-d fighter should not be the choice made.

I feel like I'm ready for a 3D castlevania again. The fighter just seems an odd choice. It must almost inherently miss out everything that makes Castlevania what it is. It might be a good fighter in its own right but unless they pull off something amazingly unexpected there's no reason for it to be a "Castlevania" one aside from using the brand name to shift units.

I like how people are assuming that all future Castlevania games are going to be like this. People, this is an experiment by Konami. It's not sticking. It might not even last longer than this one game.

Wii gets adventures games based off of fighting games (Soul Calibur Legends), and fighting games based off of adventure games (Castlevania Judgement) I don't understand this at all.

I'm expecting to see turn based Pong announced at E3.

I do not really want the same thing that we have been getting on the portable platforms. The forumla is starting to run stale, and I was bored with Portrait of Ruin halfway into it.

I want the series to try something new... but I didn't want it to be a fighting game. I suck at those....

As long as Maria can throw doves....

In a way it's good to say it's going to suck because when it doesn't it'll just get you excited instead of having false hope sooooooooo yeah this games gonna suck lol

If the news of this game came out of the blue, no one wouldbe dissappointed, but because we all knew Castlevania was coming to the Wii in some form due to those Order of Esscalia shots that leaked earlier this year, we all got our hopes up for something great.

It's very hard to imagine this game being great. It is very easy to imagine it being like Soulcalibur Legends.

I'm doing my best to keep an open mind on this one. Why? Because the Wii needs a good 3d fighter online, and it's yet to even get a decent one offline, so this could fill a definite void on the console, regaurdless of the label Castlevania being plastered on it. That's asssuming that by some miracle they don't muck this game up. Think about it, though. If this thing is miraculously good, and it sells well, our chances of seeing another, more traditional type of Castlevania game can only get higher. Wow, appearantly I'm having a ridiculously optimistic day today.

Shadow31 nailed the matter in the second post: There IS a "normal" Castlevania title coming for the DS along with this Wii spinoff. It's not like how stingent FF fans had to sit through a sequel, a series of spinoffs, and a MMORPG before getting the next "true" game... which was based on a different spinoff series.

This isn't saying that I'm against spinoffs, I'm rather acceptant of divergeances in series I like, but whatever whining about Judgement is going on is prolly by someone who's either opposed to or strapped for their own DS.

'sides, now DISSIDIA's not alone in being a fighter for a series not known for fighting (I'm keeping SSB out of this, since that's a company-wide mish-mash as opposed to a concentrated focus on a series).
