Wii Warm Up: No, seriously, what?

Castlevania and 3D have a rocky history together, and an overwhelming majority of fighting games are terrible (basically all of them not made by Capcom, Namco, Sega, or Arc -- and even some of those companies'). How faithful are you in Konami? Will the Castlevania fighting game turn out better than the homemade Soul Calibur III version seen after the break?

It looks like a Soul Calibur clone.
Captn_Starbring @ Jun 27th 2008 9:41AM
....that is soul caliber 2, they made custom fighters and shopped the pic, you silly goose
igorponweed @ Jun 27th 2008 10:00AM
SIlly me who never bought Soul Cal 2.
acefondu @ Jun 27th 2008 10:11AM
Ok, this has to be fake. I know Soul Calibur WAY too well to see that Dracula is Raphael and Simon is apparently Ivy. I'm calling this a fake until I see otherwise.
acefondu @ Jun 27th 2008 10:14AM
Oh and LOOK! At the end of the video it says Press 'Start' if you wish to skip... WHAT? There is NO Start button on the Wii. There is + and - , that's as close as you get. Case closed, this is a fake.
acefondu @ Jun 27th 2008 10:18AM
And after reading the article more carefully...I am a moron. lol.
crazypenguin @ Jun 27th 2008 10:25AM
ha ha, acefondu, i've done silly/stupid things like that before, i don't think your too much of a moron, although four posts in a row...:D
Roto13 @ Jun 27th 2008 12:32PM
Alright, n00bs. :P It says it's Soul Calibur right in the article. And it's SC III. SC II doesn't have character creation.

Let's be honest here, konami hasn't made good games on consoles since the snes imo. (save for a rare gem every now and then) Notice how they do well with handhelds (2d) Im not gonna buy this game, not a big fan of fighters and definitely not a fan of genre mashups like this. Im disappointed.
Orion @ Jun 27th 2008 8:55AM
No offense, but the SNES? What have you been under a rock for the last 15 years?
I'm sorry, but what about all the PS titles they had? Have you forgotten about Symphony...oh... and that one tiny series known as Metal Gear Solid???
I'm all for a good arguement that this fighter can't be good... I think it has a chance, but I can respect people's opinions that it will flop especially after we all experienced the Soul Calibur spin off. However, bashing this game because of what you said about the developer makes you lose your credibility IMHO.
jared @ Jun 27th 2008 2:33PM
the rare gem in parenthesis was pointing at sotn and metal gear solid. But metal gear is kojimi's and im pretty sure he has his own development team not the same people who worked on dewy's adventure. for me the only konami series on consoles im still interested in is silent hill.
Hamster @ Jun 27th 2008 8:53AM
Didn't Konami make 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters' and that was awesome! So maybe this won't be so bad afer all.
However, for me, this whole thing reeks of Soulcalibur Legends.
Rob @ Jun 27th 2008 8:58AM
Jared,
Have you heard of:
Metal Gear, DDR, Pro Evo/Winning Eleven?
danny. @ Jun 27th 2008 9:27AM
Perfect headline. I'm not disappointed, but very disinterested. Only a balance board minigame between every few fights would make this any stranger.
They announced Dracula as a playable character... I know it's Castlevania and all, but a motion controlled fighting game with Dracula doesn't sound good no matter what franchise it's derived from.
samfish @ Jun 27th 2008 9:36AM
I don't know how I feel about this, to be honest. I really like Castlevania games generally, even though I know the 3D ones all pretty much suck to various degrees.
I'll probably give it a whirl no matter how good or bad it is, but I guess you can color me pessimistic.
I DO wish they'd have made it into an action game a la Ninja Gaiden instead of a fighting game. The engine seems like it's there for it and that would make a lot more sense, to me.
steve @ Jun 27th 2008 2:28PM
and I'd hate to lose my credibility with any of you guys *rolls eyes*
let him have his opinion
il_duce620 @ Jun 27th 2008 9:42AM
I've got SSBB and Street Fighter II Turbo on my Wii... I can't say I'm interested in another fighting game!
JC Fletcher @ Jun 27th 2008 9:54AM
Hey, kiddos, the video is from Soul Calibur III. The screenshot, though, is Castlevania.
Alisha Karabinus @ Jun 27th 2008 10:15AM
Mankind ill needs, miserable pile, wtf nooooo, etc.
Roto13 @ Jun 27th 2008 12:33PM
I dunno. I never really liked the standard Castlevania formula, so I might like this game more. XP
Max Headroom @ Jun 27th 2008 12:59PM
Well, I'm excited about the game. Maybe it will end us as addictive as Brawl. I think it is kind of cool when companies try something different.
Tyler @ Jun 27th 2008 2:16PM
Looks awesome. Castlevania is badass. Fighting games rock. Enough said.
boxmyth @ Jun 27th 2008 4:58PM
Maybe we'll get lucky and the fighting game portion will turn out to be an awesome unlockable within a new 2D Metroidvania Wii-stravaganza.
Or maybe I'm just pretty damn disappointed that Iga is putting this much effort into a genre that doesn't need more copycats.
