Wario Land: Scan It

Is it just us being overly hopeful, or is 2D gaming on home consoles beginning to experience a mini-renaissance? The Virtual Console is pumping old-school 2D goodness down our pipes on a weekly basis, Capcom is making a new 8-bit style Mega Man for WiiWare, and Nintendo is bringing back Mario's mustache-twirling alter-ego for a fully 2D platformer, Wario Land: Shake It (we'll quietly sweep the latest Castlevania rumors under the carpet if that's okay with you).
Instead of using the NES-style graphics seen in Mega Man 9, Wario Land: Shake It will feature gorgeous, hand-drawn visuals. These were shown off in the latest edition of Nintendo Dream, and Jeux France has the full, super-large scans. Go forth, and coo at their beauty.

crap, i might actually buy something from wii ware, no offense, i actually like the idea of lost winds, but i'm not paying that much for a 3 hour adventure game (paying towards PSN instead) but this... very very intresting, all that really matters now to me is pricing/rating and please nintendo do this right, i want it! also, reason i don't want to buy off of wii ware is a storage reason, nothing else i promise.

I don't believe this is going to be a WiiWare release like MegaMan will be. I'm not so keen on purchasing WiiWare stuff either so, let's hope not!

this game has nothing to do with Wiiware, i believe - it's being developed as a full retail game for wii

I'm really looking forward to this one coming out. It's great to see Nintendo return to it's 2D gaming roots combined with current technological advances.
In the meanwhile, I'd really like to see Nintendo port New Super Mario Bros to the Wii (and maybe use the game as a base for an updated Super Mario All-Stars) to make it a bit more comfortable to play. In addition, Nintendo could release new level packs for the game every couple months as a form of episodic content featuring new power ups (like those in Mario Galaxy), enemies and worlds that alter the game play in various ways. (Or even better, release a level creator and allow gamers to design and share their own levels.)

They still need to make a new sidescrolling Metroid game. The DS adds tons of possibilities for new powerups, or even revamping old ones. I wants me some Metroids.

That and/or an M2 remake. It's the only Metroid game that can't be played on current-gen consoles.
Anyway, I'm wondering about the fate of the WarioWare crew. Are the continuities truly seperate, or will they be cameoing? If Wario really is Mario's alter ego, it'll likely be a very murky issue, though the thought of the games' stories being acting gigs with all the characters having a seperate life (which would make the sports titles closer to their actuality) amuses me.
