Rumor: WiiWare gets equipped with Mega Man 9
What looks like scanned images of Nintendo Power have appeared, which are too small for us to be sure if they're real. But we think they are! And if that's true, then Mega Man 9 is a WiiWare game! Not only that, it's a WiiWare game in the 8-bit style of the NES Mega Man games! It would be hard to imagine being more thrilled! Forget E3 -- the game of the year has already been revealed!According to the accompanying post on the Mega Man Network, the game is being developed by the Mega Man Zero/ZX creators, Inti Creates, and will feature the following bosses: Magma Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Concrete Man, Hornet Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man, and Splash Woman. Splash Woman? We're going to go stand in front of the mailbox now.
[Update: better scans found here.]

I just wet my pants. I'm glad I'm not a father of a 6-month old child, otherwise, had I been holding the child, I would promptly drop him/her after reading this blog post and do a happy dance.
But it's just a rumor, so the happy dance wouldn't be too long, maybe 6 minutes.

Fraggin' double-posts!
Exo @ Jun 26th 2008 2:37PM
man this is so fake, why would they make it 8 bit if the later ones were 16 and 32 bit.
also this is capcom, they wouldnt put it up for download, they would make a full release so they could grab more money out of you
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 26th 2008 2:40PM
This is why they are developing the game in 8 bit.
Here's what Inafune has to say about why it's 8-bit after MM8 (the question was about whether the game included elements from previous MMs that they had to cut):
"This isn't really an answer to the question, but Mega Man fans give Mega Man 2 the most praise, and we wanted to surpass that. We weren't thinking about how 9 would look after 8, but how it woulf look following 1 or 2. We wanted to put out a fun game that gets back to basics."
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 26th 2008 2:41PM
You can find that quote in the scans.
SoshiKitai @ Jun 26th 2008 2:41PM
Why would they make a 2D Wario Land game that's out on a home console and not just put it for the hand-held?
Exo @ Jun 26th 2008 2:55PM
lol live in your dreamworld, fact is shit like this always turns out to be fake, heck its even got the classic horrible scan with text that you can barely read.
I'm sorry but now, in a world that cares way to much about visuals, they would not do this unless it was an unlockable feature to play a game in the old style.
Ive always been a Nintendo fan, but damn too many Nintendo fanboys are way to gullible and believe anything they see these days. its why i stopped posting on any Nintendo fan sites.
SoshiKitai @ Jun 26th 2008 3:02PM
Then I suppose the question is...
What happens if this actually becomes real?
Exo @ Jun 26th 2008 3:22PM
Id have to say if its true capcomis dumb, if htey wanted to make a game for oldschool megaman fans this wouldnt be for wii only. alot of people that gre up with nes dont own nintendo systems anymore
samfish @ Jun 26th 2008 3:26PM
Hate to burst your bubble, Exo, but Capcom has officially said it's the read deal:

samfish @ Jun 26th 2008 3:27PM
Also, Mega Man has always, always, ALWAYS sold better on Nintendo consoles.
Doubly so when you're talking about the Mega Man Anniversary Collection.
Exo @ Jun 26th 2008 3:30PM
nowhere in that thread has it been said its real.
you guys have some imagination
samfish @ Jun 26th 2008 3:34PM
WOW, you're in denial.
http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/891917/MM9__Confirmed_to_come_to_WiiWare_is_it_Wii_exclusive
Sven is speaking of the game in both threads in an affirmative manner and not denying it's existence.
FURTHERMORE, what part of this tells you it's still fake?
"Tada! I suspect we should remove those scans though as we would like people to go buy Nintendo Power for their amazing scoop."
What is the VP of Capcom's planning department referring to in regards to Nintendo Power's "scoop" in a thread about Mega Man 9 just after pictures of the scans were posted?
AND he later SAYS to go buy Nintendo Power to read about the game.
Exo @ Jun 26th 2008 3:52PM
denial? what part of that thread tells me that guy works for capcom. i dont sit and post on every forum and blog all day.
and you are acting as if i dont want it to be true, which isnt the case, tis just too good to be true for my tastes.

I can't tell you how excited this makes me. I'd freaking delete everything else on my Wii and pay 5000 Wii points if I had to just to get this game. I hope they don't make it too easy like all the other games nowadays.
And, who knows, maybe we'll get Mega Man 2 in a package deal the day it comes out. A guy can dream, right?
HellsHammer @ Jun 26th 2008 2:49PM
This can't be true. Am I the only one confused?
Why would Capcom go backwards with the Mega Man series?
Mega Man 6 on the NES
Mega Man 7 was on SNES
Mega Man 8 was on PS1
Mega Man and Bass on GBA
and Mega Man 9...in 8 bit...again?
Seems like nostalgia over logic, to me.
But it IS Mega Man 9...so I'll stop my complaints there.
Exo @ Jun 26th 2008 2:57PM
megaman and bass was a port, it was originally on snes

AND they're doing the right thing and putting it on the Wii!
HALLELUJAH CAPCOM!
I know I said I wouldn't download any titles until Nintendo released a storage solution, but I'll be cleaning out the fridge for this on day one!
TomSkib @ Jun 26th 2008 3:12PM
I'll believe when I see it, but if it does come out, I'm getting some more Wii Points and buying it!
Knoxximus @ Jun 26th 2008 4:05PM
The best part is, we get a retroized Mega Man 9 for WiiWare, but we STILL can't get NES Mega Man titles on the VC to save our collective lives! What's THAT about? :/
Patius @ Jun 26th 2008 4:24PM
I'm sorry to say this, but it looks fake.
Most of those things look doctored from old games. (the magma monster is some long creature with the head of the Dragon from Megaman 2, etc)
Most of those screenshots look like levels from other games. (one is from Megaman 3, for example)
Smoke @ Jun 27th 2008 5:28AM
They're not from other levels and games though, and they're merely in the same style as the previous NES games.
Also interesting to note is the actual spritecount and the size of the sprites. This is impossible on an actual NES because of hardware limitations(Although an emulator can overcome some of these)
The rotation effect in another picture isn't possible at all on an NES or emulator.
moo @ Jun 26th 2008 5:27PM
mega man battles the evil dr. sexualinnuendo.

Hey, have any of you heard of The Protomen? They're a megaman themed band, who unlike most of the Video game bands out there, write their own stuff. They've written a rock opera that appeals to pretty much anyone. They've got a new album coming out soon and chances are you'll really like their stuff- http://www.protomen.com/
Drahken @ Jun 28th 2008 3:03PM
The Protomen are cool, but the Megas are even better. http://web.mac.com/themegas/The_Megas/main/main.html
Frog @ Jun 28th 2008 5:26PM
But the Megas are a cover band, no?
Drahken @ Jun 28th 2008 3:11PM
Hells yes to this. Oh and Exo? You ARE in denial. They interviewed Inafune (You know, the guy who created Mega Man?) in Nintendo Power and he talkes about it. All of this info is true. Why WOULDN'T they make the new Mega Man 8-bit? Of all the games in all of the Mega Man series, what is the most highly regarded? Is it the 3D one? No. Is it in the Zero series? No. ZX? No. Battle Network? No. Star Force? Hell no. Is it ANY of them in 16 or 32 bit? No. It's Mega Man 2. The second of all of them. I can't really say it CREATED the formula, but it certainly set it to what was the norm. Why WOULDN'T they go back to their glorious roots?
Haohmaru @ Jun 28th 2008 5:05PM
...NES-style 8-bit? For a new game? Really? I was hoping for more than this. Color me disappointed. With any luck, though, maybe it won't cost more than 500 points - I absolutely will not dish out more than that for an NES-quality game.
The Overlord @ Jun 28th 2008 11:52PM
8 BIT?! What the fuck? Were in like over 200 or 300 or so this generation and there making 8 bit games? This is absolutely horrible no one in there right mind would want a 8 bit NEW game now days this is just insane and completely unworth any money it costs unless it's like 1 dollar this is the biggest insult ever this is like basically bringing us back in technology hell our handhelds are WAY more graphically better than this I could understand if they added some sort of 3d 2dish kind of look but just NES graphics that's just repulsive and not worth anyones time way to ruin Megaman even more Capcom we know how much you guys hate him.
Drahken @ Jun 29th 2008 12:12PM
What does the extent of the graphics have to do with the quality of the game? Not nearly as much as the gameplay. The Virtual Console is proof enough of that. But then again, I'd have thought anyone posting on a Nintendo blog would have sense enough to realize that already. After all, isn't that the overwhelming theme to this entire console generation? The PS3 absolutely blows the Wii out of the water in terms of graphics. Just look at the recently released MGS4. A more beautiful looking game there is not. But the Wii is infinitely more successful. Because of the gameplay. And that's what Mega Man is known for: unforgiving platform action. When has Mega Man ever been known for it's graphics? Once again I point back to the following: Which is the most popular game to have the name Mega Man in the title? Mega Man Legends certainly is the best looking, but that ain't it. It's Mega Man 2 and it's 8-bits. If you're more concerned with Mega Man 9's graphics than the fact that their bringing back the classic gameplay formula, then you're not a Mega Man fan to start with and really don't have much place dropping your two cents.
Plus, no one is forcing you to buy the game, so quit yer bitchin'.
Bob-O @ Jun 29th 2008 10:58PM
Someone brought up the Protomen I see. I've been to a few of their shows...and didn't they put out an 8-bit version of their rock opera? I'm just sayin'...Soundtrack = The Protomen?
The Overlord @ Jul 2nd 2008 1:38AM
Oh hush you little retard, I infact own a Megaman Online game and what gameplay is bringing us back to gameplay created over 10 or 20 years ago i'd rather play something ATLEAST like Megaman 7 which amplified the style so much or Megaman 8 which was just a awesome game Megaman 2 was good "Back Than" but now it's nothing compared to games and that's the point i'm making there recreating the same gameplay on a WAY outdated system which means the Gameplay that we have now today isn't there the Wii isn't a freaking NES so it's not the same at all it has graphics better than the gamecube it has better specs and is capable of more GAMEPLAY and Graphics with new systems opened up new ways to code how much more to code and new graphics this is a GIANT downgrade in gameplay and that's what im saying.
Drahken @ Jul 2nd 2008 6:02PM
Oh, what witty repartee. "little retard," says the man who doesn't use punctuation.
Anyway, once again, Mega Man was never about cutting edge graphic prowess. Why else would they have kept the same exact graphics from the first one all the way to 6? I mean, 6 came out in fall 1993, well after the release of the SNES. ANd the reason that they've gone back to 8-bit this time is for nostalgia's sake. But AGAIN, the graphics are unimportant. It's the gameplay that matters, and the simple fact of the matter is that we don't KNOW what they've done to the gameplay yet, so we can't yet tell if they have, in fact, downgraded it. For all we know they could have all sorts of new tricks up their sleeve. The only thing we DO know is that the basic premise, the names of the robot masters, and that they're using 8-bit graphics. I agree that 7 was a very good game. 8 was still a good Mega Man game, but I thought it wasn't as good as previous entries. I didn't like how they broke the eight robot masters up into two groups. But that's just a matter of opinion. And as for 2 not standing up to the test of time: couldn't that be said of ANY game ever made? Certainly, the original Super Mario Bros isn't nearly as impressive as it once was, but it's still considered a great game. The same can be said of all of the Mega Man games, 1-8. But when you compare the gameplay of the Mega Man games, say comparing 7 to 2, it's like comparing apples to apples. They're the same thing. Sure, there are little refinements and tweaks here and there, but they're the same monster. You really can't say they have distinctly different gameplay styles. The only way they could really "downgrade" the classic Mega Man gameplay would be to go back to the time before they had sliding and charging. And I severely doubt they're going to do that. But as I previously said, we don't KNOW anything of the gameplay, so you really can't go throwing about accusations like, "this is a GIANT downgrade in gameplay".
And what the hell is "a Megaman Online game"?
The Overlord @ Jul 4th 2008 11:12AM
You know one of those things that lets people play online with other people off a completly fan made game?
But I doubt you would know and since when is intelligence based off how punctuation someone types on the internet? You really are a retard, and this so called gameplay that was Megaman 1 through 6 was the EXACT same thing all they ever did was add a slide feature and a chargeshot after that they adding basically nothing except levels and you wanna know why Megaman was on the NES so long? Because they didn't know how to make graphics for the SNES and they thought it'd be to work and it was much cheaper to keep creating NES Megaman long before the NES was defunct. I'd choose to play Super Mario Galaxy over Mario NES ANY day there's a reason after each systems games are better and that's because the systems are better but anyways Megaman is dead to me now with horrible shit like Battle Network, Starforce and Megaman Legends they just don't even care about the Blue Bomber anymore.
Hopefully if they make a Megaman X9 it wont be a piece of shit like this crap there bringing to add to the Shovelware.
Drahken @ Jul 4th 2008 10:03PM
No, some signs of intelligence are: 1) Trying to discuss diplomatically rather than resorting to name calling, and 2) Being able to back up your arguments with facts or reason rather than throwing about idle speculations like, "why Megaman was on the NES so long? Because they didn't know how to make graphics for the SNES". And yes, I'm aware of what an online game is. But when you go bragging about owning some nonexistent Mega Man MMO, it tends to confuse.
Anyway, I'm sure I could keep going at this with you, but I grow weary of this game. Debate really loses it's appeal when it's practiced against overconfident middle schoolers with inferiority complexes. Oh, look at that, I've resorted to name calling. I guess I've sunk to your level. Suffice to say, I've been playing Mega Man since before you entered grade school. While you, on the other hand, are more concerned with flashy effects like the rest of the XBox generation. We obviously have different gamer ideologies and trying to convince you of anything would be like trying reason with a bull. So with that, I'm done with you.
And you REALLY think THIS is a superior game? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlWNi2zH16E
The Overlord @ Jul 9th 2008 1:53AM
Non existant? I'm hosting the game right now.
And yes Megaman 8 is Better.
