Rumor: 'Mankind ill needs a Castlevania Wii game such as this' [update]

Disaster!

Of all the different directions you expected Konami to take with Castlevania's Wii debut, we're sure that "3D fighting game" was not one of them. Nonetheless, the above shot is what allegedly appeared in the latest issue of Nintendo Power.

Other rumored details we heard through the grapevine (oh, and we're just about to lose our mind)? Honey, honey:

Wii remote used for motion attacks, Nunchuk for character movement
Rumored characters include Simon, Alucard, Shanoa, Maria Renard, and, of course, Dracula
Holy water, magic spells, dagger, and boomerang subweapons
Using subweapons requires hearts
Remixed classic Castlevania tracks
Destroyable environments
Enemy monsters jump into the battle
Placeable traps
Steals men's souls, and makes them its slaves!

No word yet on whether you'll be able to throw plates of curry at your opponents. Your thoughts?

At least we have Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for the Nintendo DS to look forward to, still!

Well, it all comes down to the controls I think...when they turn out to be good, the game will be a win, but when they won't ... no one will care about that game than, I guess...

Well...I guess this is kinda cool. At least Simon Belmont is back. not entirely sure how I feel about this. It's very left field.

...although I do know that I'd much rather they rejigger it into a 3D beat 'em up, if nothing else.

I'm pretty conflicted on this one, part is me is disapointed that its not an action/adventure game much like you guys, but part of me does think this could be a pretty sweet fighter. It looks pretty good anyways.

More likely than not the 360/ps3 Castlevania is going to be a 3d action game.

Well, RE Umbrella Chronicles made me actually love the RE series when before I honestly didn't get it. If Konami can do the same thing (making a good spin off title) with Castlevania, maybe I'll enjoy that series more than before as well.

On the other hand, I do hope they don't butcher the series like what happened with Soul Calibur. But, I don't think this is reason to get all pissy. You might 1. get a nice game out of this and 2. if sales are good, make them actually want to put the regular series on the system.

It's pretty obvious, they're testing the series' success on the Wii by trying something a bit "safer" first.

Well, I don't think I'll hate it. It could be a Soul Caliber clone in every sense, but if that is the case, it might be enjoyable. I'm gonna give credit though, as it at least has the promise of an innovative idea for the Castlevania series.

Kill me now, please. Actually, kill whoever thought of this. It's bad enough that it's a 3D fighter which every one of us knows, whether we consciously admit it or not, will be a complete and utter piece of fail. Not to mention, if they were even going after the castlevania fan base they LEAST they could have done was use designs resembling you know... the CHARACTERS? What the HELL? As if they could've removed it from the series any further, without even resembling the characters all this is is a fighting game with castlevania NAMES. Crap crap crap crap crap.

Throw in Castelvania's Circle of the moon and Dawn of Sorrow main characters and maybe 'll consider this.

I mean, man, why had to be a Fighting game, how hard was to give us a classic Castelvania game, i'm pretty sure not that hard

But well, I'm a Castelvania wore, so 'll think about it if gameplay tingles my senses

Ways this game could suck less.

1) make it 4 player and include tons of other Konami characters (effectively making it a Konami version of Smash Bros.)

2) Add a lengthy 2D adventure mode (effectively making it a Konami version of Smash Bros.)

3) Add TONS of unlockables (effectively making it a Konami version of Smash Bros.)

See where I'm going with this?
