Find a use for that extra DS
Nintendo is pumping out new DS colors with a vengeance, and many DS owners who've been clinging to their original models are finally breaking down and upgrading to a Lite. Still others already had a Lite, but found themselves lulled into spending even more money on a spiffy new shade. We just can't control ourselves in the face of such beauty. But what happens when you end up with a second DS? Unless you've been retro-fitted with an extra pair of arms, you probably don't need two handhelds. Rather than letting the extra sit around and collect dust, check out our suggested uses for that second DS.

Seriously, why bother? You know the new one is coming.
We're due for new hardware from Nintendo.
They will announce a new DS sans the GBA port.
I'm so sure it's going to happen, I sold my Polar White launch DS Lite.
JC Fletcher @ Jun 18th 2008 12:14PM
So you're... eager to be rid of the GBA port?
Dante @ Jun 18th 2008 6:08PM
They won't get rid of the GBA port any time soon. I think people who buy the ds version of guitar hero would be pretty pissed. I'll guarantee the next big DS version will have sort of accelerometer built in.

I can't understand why anyone, who already has a DS Lite, would spend money to buy another one just for a new color. Instead of dropping a hundred and thirty bucks on a new DS, why not use that money to buy 4 or 5 new DS games?
If you really don't like the way your DS looks, there's always skins that will only set you back 10 dollars.

You forgot the most important reason I think: You can use the second DS to access the multiplayer content of many games.

Not so! It is there: http://nintendo.joystiq.com/photos/ten-uses-for-that-old-ds/868750/
Loving the download play. I've converted lots of people that way.

These days, I use my old white DS lite for two things.
Using an Action Replay DS as a pass card, I either use my Supercard Lite to dump DS roms (not download them illegally!) or use it as a cooking timer. :p
Roto13 @ Jun 18th 2008 1:13PM
The only reason I even bought my current Lite is because my old Phat mysteriously broke when I accidentally bodyslammed it against a door repeatedly.
Alisha Karabinus @ Jun 18th 2008 1:37PM
Trauma Center or another game? ;)
Roto13 @ Jun 18th 2008 1:42PM
It was an accident, I swear. xD
Alisha Karabinus @ Jun 18th 2008 2:12PM
Sure, sure. ;)
Akukami @ Jun 18th 2008 1:29PM
I'm still using my Silver Phat DS and whenever I get a new Lite or whatever new model Nintendo announces I'll keep it around for the same reason I've had a second GBC and GBA...Pokey manz!
Garst @ Jun 18th 2008 3:16PM
I'm not going to upgrade because the phat DS has that convinient GBA slot that discretely stores an extra game for those times when I feel like playing SMB3.
Slaziman @ Jun 18th 2008 5:09PM
I think it's funny those are the same shades iPod's have xD
Jacksons @ Jun 18th 2008 5:54PM
Whoa, you're right. That's a little strange.
Donald @ Jun 18th 2008 6:02PM
I bought one solely so I could trade Pokemon with myself.
Shame = 0
Alisha Karabinus @ Jun 18th 2008 6:05PM
That would make a great euphemism.
"Whatcha doing?"
"Playing Pokmon with myself."
btmullins @ Jun 18th 2008 6:50PM
Extra DS?
Send one to The Moon Books Project. Our DS is held together by superglue...

When the crimson red DS hit canada I ran up there and bought one. Gave my spare DS to my gf. Now she wants a blue one, I think she's giving hers to her sister.
Neill @ Jun 19th 2008 10:12AM
you can buy a hombrew cart and turn the other ds in to a wifi hot spot detector
Geddes @ Jun 19th 2008 8:29AM
i'm giving mine to a sibling so i can use multiplayer with them and it also counts as a present...yays
Alisha Karabinus @ Jun 19th 2008 1:31PM
I love that there are people in here who've given their extras away. I keep trying to give mine to my mom, but she won't take it. Guess I'll just have to keep dragging people into multiplayer!
