X-Play says No More Heroes is a game for cheap bastards
We say it's a game for people who enjoy awesome games. But, hey, we're just some internet blog. Although, when you think about it, being on a TV network that nobody watches might be better than being an internet blog that nobody reads.
But, we digress. Any favorable exposure for No More Heroes is certainly welcome, because we're absolutely sure that every person that owns a Wii console also needs to own this game. In fact, we still have nightmares about how mixed the game sales were.
Head past the break for the video.

I check this little blog more often than my email! And yes, I have a season pass to X-Play in my tivo (been watching since they were originally "Extended Play". Glad to see them push this game now that there has been a price drop. I was an even cheaper monkey though...picked it up on sale for 19.99 at circuit city some weeks back....*Grin*
Big Eared Monkey @ Jun 10th 2008 9:16PM
But in my defense for buying No More Heroes on the cheap, I did pay full price for Okami at the same time (with the IGN watermark) *Sigh* I really am a geek.
RupeeClock @ Jun 10th 2008 9:18PM
Does it take a 2 minute video to "These three games had price cuts"?
Sonic_13 @ Jun 10th 2008 9:24PM
*cough* raffle off some more copies of the game! *cough*
Jhongerkong @ Jun 10th 2008 9:34PM
I just beat the game today (didnt see real ending yet though). Its pretty awesome, although I had no clue what was going on in the 1st rank match.
beaus27 @ Jun 10th 2008 9:35PM
I bought NMH@ MSRP of $49.99,it was a birthday gift to myself, at my LOCAL game store. I don't feel bad for paying full price.
I did however purchase Okami at launch, for the PS2 w/ Buddha Board,HA!, and so I feel that I have left out of the Okami Wii buzz. :( !!!
But hey, I helped by purchasing one of the last great PS2 titles, not forgetting GoW2.

Hey now, don't diss on X-Play. I remember watching Extended Play on ZDTV years ago. It was just Adam Sessler - the shots of him were shot in some random arcade that let them film on slow days, and the reviews were just videos of games with a voiceover by him. It was the only video game TV show, and I worshipped it.
The show has lost a bit of its luster now that its X-Play on G4 with Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb, shot in some sort of futuristic video game lounge, but its still pretty darn good.

I read these blogs like old people read the bible does this make me a nobody as stated above "...an internet blog that nobody reads."
mykie @ Jun 10th 2008 10:53PM
I paid full price for No More Heroes, Guitar Hero III, Trauma Center, SSX Blur, and Zak & Wiki...
No regrets here!
Patius @ Jun 10th 2008 11:06PM
I think that G4 is owned by the same people who own MTV.
As such, the programming is of the same quality or worse.
Haohmaru @ Jun 11th 2008 4:13AM
It's actually owned by Comcast. xD
il_duce620 @ Jun 10th 2008 11:13PM
Apparently I have little excuse but to pick up No More Heroes now...
Not really complaining, of course...just sayin'... :-P
psyborg @ Jun 10th 2008 11:28PM
I gladly payed full price for No More Heroes, after playing it I would have payed double. Coolest game ever.
jooboo @ Jun 11th 2008 12:34AM
To X-Play's defense, they gave it a 5 star rating when it first came out. I didn't see this episode yet, but I'm sure they were just informing everyone of a price drop on an absolutely BRILLIANT game. Sometimes that's what it takes to get people to recognize greatness.
Suichimo @ Jun 11th 2008 2:11AM
But a few weeks back weren't you informing us of this exact thing? The "Games for Cheap Bastards" segment generally encompasses good games that you can pick up cheap. You just didn't call us cheap bastards.
Also, as jooboo said, XPlay loved No More Heroes.
P.S. I gladly picked up my copy at 49.99 at my local Gamestop.
meist3r @ Jun 11th 2008 5:44AM
Well NMH is a brilliant game after all and if you can get it cheap go do it. I got mine from eBay in perfect condition for 40 Euros and I soon regretted not having bought it earlier. Definitely one of the better Wii titles so far. It has some flaws (and some annoying ones) but the combat is just fun and I'd pay 40 bucks just for the art and the humor in this game. Enjoy Anime or quirky Japanese culture (or both -freaking Otaku)? Go buy this game!
Eternityx @ Jun 11th 2008 10:00AM
What really made me mad was when i fought rank 2 boss and everytime I quick dodged to the side and started to combo...I would miss every swing... or some weird quirks with the bike riding in the city..
meist3r @ Jun 11th 2008 10:28AM
Well the 2nd rank boss is not exactly easy to beat I'll give you that. It took me about an hour of mashing until I found out how to lowball the gimps back to her. But it was amazing fun at that.
I think you made one of the recurring points: The hubworld is just horrible, in my opinion someone inexperienced made that or they rushed something out after everything else was done. I mean most of the game looks amazing and plays well but this bike thing (physics hell)? The textures on the buildings and the people (omg fugly car blocks)? No warp function to jump to your millionth assignment? And some of the minigames were unbearable (mine searching, graffiti removal). But if you take into consideration that navigating the hubworld and playing these minigames to make some cash is the smallest part of the game and given the amount of content you get (a hundred shirts, wow) it still was a great experience. And you're right about that too, even after you finished it it's great fun to play it again (if only because you start the new game with everything you bought in the last one).
Let me give you a tip to finish it properly, somewhere down the road you'll need a million bucks for an extremely expensive weapon upgrade. Just do the 50.000$ assassination Pizza bla mission. I did it like 20 times in a row and I was set. Once you memorized the line you'll have to ride through the city it's easy and not half as annoying than earning it any other way (though a bit more repetitive).
samfish @ Jun 11th 2008 9:44AM
I was rather disappointed by No More Heroes. It was too simple and I didn't like the open world part of it.
Eternityx @ Jun 11th 2008 9:58AM
I paid 30 dollars for NMH about a month ago and I am Rank 2 ATM. I think the game is definitely worth 30 dollars. This is probably one of the only hack/slash games I will play again on a harder difficulty after I beat it.
TheCoats @ Jun 11th 2008 10:24AM
I paid full price and love that game!!!

This game was pretty bad honestly, bad graphics, horrid controls and pretty bad voice acting, but I do have to say the cell phone use with the wiimote speaker was pretty damn cool.
BBeh @ Jun 11th 2008 3:53PM
No More Heroes is pure awesome. One of the few different games out, it's worth a look. Way too short though, if they put some replay value into the game, this would be more than awesome. If you haven't played it. Get it. Now.
BonzaiRob @ Jun 12th 2008 5:49AM
No More Heroes is £39 here in the UK. $80 for the gimped version no less.
I'm not buying it till it passes £20...
Arthur Lucena @ Jun 15th 2008 8:37PM
I just bought mine =D
The next one will be Okami. Maybe the next will be Zacky...
Tim @ Jul 28th 2008 7:13AM
Awesome game, original, artsy fartsy, and too short.
People complain about the pointless chores and ghastly "openworld" but hey those are just in there to keep the game from being 45 minutes long.
Go out and buy
