Possibilities to reduce unemployment, increase USB usage
Unemployed loafers might do well to apply down at Nintendo, as they need a new lackey to take care of some business. That business might be very interesting, as the opening is for an experienced USB ... dude. This means the under-utilized USB capabilities on the Wii might be getting some decent stuff for future pluggage. External memory is the hot ticket, but that's still kinda boring. How about this thing for plenty of cool air during a hot, sweaty Wii Sports session?

Who lays a Wii upside down like that? Honestly!
CJLopez @ Jun 9th 2008 2:15PM
I did for a while, but I liked more standing

Laying it horizontal is fine. But at least lay it on its correct side!

It will be interesting to see what USB devices Nintendo comes out with...a camera? a microphone?
I would love to see a WarioWare game using a camera (as well as the balance board).
There are a few devices and games out there that use the USB ports. Rock Band uses them for hooking up all their fancy instruments. A few other games use the USB ports for microphones. I personally use a port to charge my iPod.

So far my Wiimote charger is the only thing that's constantly plugged into the console. I tested a USB keyboard once but it's not really something I'm looking forward to. I hope they'll come up with some cool things. I'd like to see a cable Wiimote-esque device that allows Johnny Lee headtracking.

Since WiiWare and the Virtual Console came around there has been lots of ideas about additional storage space on the Wii. Since there are USB ports, an easy solution that comes to mind are USB Thumbdrives. Most of them are really cheap especially at Fred Meyer(found an 8GB thumbdrive for 30$!) I like to think that they are experimenting with different devices to see which are easily compatible with the Wii software and whatnot.
Just my two cents.

I charge my Zune with it.
While the Wii of course doesn't recognize my Zune, it does charge it.

Follow-up for their "consideration" of the memory "issue"
Good, very good. Progress is made.
