You might find a $25 GameCube at Target

Before you read this, keep in mind that Target sales are often labeled as "your mileage may vary," meaning that they're not universal to all Target stores. Now that that's out of the way, Aeropause is reporting that the retailer has marked down new GameCubes to a mere $25 in order to liquidate their stock. Since that's less than the cost of a standard DS game, it's definitely a great deal.

Of course, as we're assuming that most of you have Wiis, there is the tiny problem of not really needing a GameCube. If you get creative, though, you could always use it to make a fun case-mod, and we'll even make a joke about duct taping two together to make a Wii, just so that you don't.

At the Target in Dallas TX NW Hwy they still have the Gamecube selling for $50. But its still on "Clearance" hence being on the clearance rack.

The Wii can fry Gamecube Memory Cards... somehow. I've had TWO burn out on me, but fortunately most of that stuff was backed up. I might pick one of these up, just to have one.

And I thought I was the only one! Most of my GC save files mysteriously got "corrupted" after placing them in my Wii.

I assumed it was coincidence, and the second time I thought Nintendo was making the memory cards cheaply now. I called tech support on another issue, and they said it's a known issue, but they don't know what causes it... they guess it could be overheating.

Huh, my GC memory card has been fine, and it's third party too. Still wish they'd let you back up GC saves to the Wii's memory and have some sort of virtual memory card emulation for Gamecube games, but Nintendo really doesn't seem to want to add features to their software as much as the other console manufacturers. That and they don't seem to be catering as much to core gamers, who are more likely to still play some Gamecube games, whereas the new casual crowd likely has never had a console before Wii, or probably had a PS2.

My first Wii frackin' blew up because of a memory card. That was an awful 2 weeks till my new one arrived. I think the same memory card had wrecked my 'cube about 2 weeks earlier, but I never put 2 and 2 together.

Yeah, I'd recommend Gamecube fans hang on to the Cube. I'm not using the Wii as a backup anymore myself, because I don't like playing through the few games that can't be backed up again (mostly those Pokemon games). This could be something that only affects some Wii's though, but (for me) it's better safe than sorry.

I've kept two GameCube memory cards (a 256 and 1019) in my Wii since launch and haven't had any issues.

It's the 1019s. My 1019 has had "corrupted" files whereas my many 256 memory cards have been fine. Just search "1019 corrupted wii" or some other such similar query on Google and see.

My Wii corrupted my Melee file off of my 3rd-party 64 MB memory card, but i had it backed up on PC, so i got it back

Only compatibility trouble i've had so far

Hmm, a GC controller (for brawl or whatever) costs $25 by itself, so this really isn't that bad of a deal. You could pick up a used copy of Melee and keep the GC in another room or something.

Or you could just buy it and throw away the GC, if for some odd reason you actually *want* a purple controller...

or you just get one as a spare I still have my GC and a wii...and honestly I'm still tempted...a game system for the car, or for travel..I bet you could pick up the battery pack/ lcd screens built fo it pretty cheap now that everone is so hyped about the wii

It's a good offer, but my GC is still here, though it hasn't seen the light of day since November 19, 2006

However, one day i will get that Broadband Adapter off my friend, and get on to a Private Server for PSO, and thus put that game back into my circulation

PSO for free. Though it's likely to be flooded with hackers.
