The World Ends with You on the DS. It may be known around these parts as a stellar action-RPG with outrageous originality and style, but we're well aware that no amount of praise can stop that affable British chap from offering a
hefty serving of hate.
It's certainly a unique genre to tackle, and we know everyone is totally ready to accept his criticism in the most professional manner possible. Well,

Certainly an interesting review - it seems to amount more to the fact that he doesn't like the genre than to any sort of review of the game. Many of the things he complains about, such as the frequent plot-progressing dialogue, are some of my favorite parts of the game (which happens to now be one of my absolute favorites. Ever.). Meanwhile, I'd rather scratch my eyes with a rusty fork than play a first person shooter. To each their own, I suppose, and I'm shocked that that, more or less, seems to be his take on the matter.

Word, the dialogue in this game is pretty damn good. I even like most of the characters, outside of Neku (Shiki loves to sew! So do I!! How cool is that?!), but I think (hope) he's being set up for a major personality shift (I'm only on Day 4). I also think that most FPSs are somewhat mindless twitch games, but hey, whatever floats his boat...

Hey, I thought he was funny.
And yeah, RPGs aren't as accepted as most game,s mainly because of everything he said.
But, some people like those qualities. And I actually felt the game. It's story was intriguing, and heart warming at times. I could feel the pain, and the longing for it all to be fixed. I genuinely felt sorry. Yes, it was like a novel.
But at least a good one.

*gasp!* people disagreeing with things in a ZP review?
ZP is great for a laugh, and often makes valid observations. But if you find yourself needing to defend your game against things he has said, then you've missed the point of the "review".
HINT: He isn't being paid to review games because he's a good reviewer.

I'm actually a HUGE fan of jrpgs but I've got to hand it to Yahtzee that he's got some fairly good comments on TWEWY that you just can't ignore. I'll continue to enjoy the game when I play it from time to time, but you just can't get around the fact that the story is kind of crummy and the questing is really just walk from A to B collect C return to A, and though this is the fact in just about any RPG, here they actually spell it out for you. Also the touch screen controls don't respond the way you want them too, or at least that's how it feels like because you're focussing on the top screen at the same time.
There's no denying there is some fun to be had because it brings some innovation to the genre, however, there's no denying it's got a bunch of things that just don't work either.
All in all I do feel this has been over-hyped just because Squenix-did-something-else, but don't let that take away the enjoyment of the freshness of it for you.

i kind of agree with yahtzee. the combat is ok for awhile, but the scenario rarely changes so it gets old. the music is vile unless you like j-pop and the aesthetics are neat unless you don't like anime or that fruits fashion book.
and i 100% about the dual screen combat thing. my brain just couldn't cope with it. but then again my age on brain age 2 is in the 30s.

Wow. Basically he stated how I feel about this title. It couldnt keep me more interested than the first 15 minutes the first time i played it. Then I tried it again and made it to two hours before I got bored of it again. The combat system is excellent but I hate the running tasks for cutscenes thing which Ive been sick of since MMBN and the storty is too cliche for me.

Wrong yo. He loves Portal, No More Heroes, and Painkiller. Watch more of his reviews before you say he hates all games. And emailing him is out of the question, because...well...watch the Mailbag Showdown.
