Nintendo pledges more Wii Fit stock to UK

Last month's reassurances over UK shortages of Wii Fit did nothing! Far from "coming in all the time on a weekly basis," stock of the fitness title seems to have dwindled down to an all-time low, leaving an entire nation starved of Wii Fitness
Anyway, this dramatic fall from grace has led to Nintendo having to make further reassurances about the situation, with the company promising that supplies will be replenished as quickly as possible. "There are pockets of stock shortages in areas of the UK", a Ninty spokesman remarked to GamesIndustry.biz. By "areas of the UK," we trust he means "the whole damn country."

I tried to get one yesterday, and my mum asked the clerk in HMV. She said they got fifteen at the launch, while Woolworths down the street only got two, and neither had got any more any since. And below Game Party... my God.

And by areas of the UK, he means towns and places which people won't instantly recognise.

It's like this with all the good games on Wii/DS in the UK. I can pretty much guarantee the only reason I will have Brawl at all is the fact I've got it pre-ordered and I'm going in on launch day to get it.
And I've still yet to see a single copy of TWEWY -_-

I live in the Netherlands.
And i had to get mine from a friend who works in a department store. ...they only got 2 in that shipment....
One for my friend and one for me ..... :))
But the rest of the customers had to wait again.
I have not seen 1 single WII fit in the ANY store at all.

This really frustrates me. But what frustrates me more is the opportunists on ebay making a fortune out of snapping them all up on pre-order knowing full well that that they can make a 100% profit when the product is scarce. I have ordered my copy from amazon in France. Germany also has some I believe.
I wrote to Nintendo and their initial response was less than helpful ... "There are stocks coming in to the country but I do not have any information as to which retailers they are going to. ". Hmmm, thanks. So I wrote to Nintendo America who pushed me back to the UK.
This time ...
"I apologise that our response disappointed you. I realise it is difficult to feel like being a loyal customer when you cannot purchase the product you have seen advertised.
Nintendo are delighted (and a little surprised) at the huge success of Wii Fit. Initial market launches across Asia had not generated the same demand and there was some speculation amongst retailers about how such a fitness related product would be perceived in the traditionally game-playing console market. In fact, logging onto the US site Amazon.com this morning, they are also out of stock and are advising customers to "check back soon" for availability. It is impossible for us to know what stock the UK distributors have ordered in relation to their demand and which stores they intend to allocated this stock to. As you can imagine, they are under no obligation to tell us.
I'm afraid at the moment, the only way to ensure you receive a board is to pre-order from one of the on-line sellers and high street stores. The on-line retailer mentioned below (Nindie) is listing the product "usually available in 7 days" and they will email you when the product is in stock. Game is stating a 3-5 delivery on its on-line site this morning and again, you can register your email to be kept up to date with stock levels.
I do apologise again. If it’s any consolation, my Fit board is on order too! I wasn’t convinced until I used the demo board we had in the office so I didn’t order one from the first release either."
If you believe that the Customer Service Supervisor would, 1 admit that she wasn't convinced about her company's own product, or 2 that her's is still on order, then you're less doubting than me.
Here's to the 14th when my Fit should be delivered. And here's to Nintendo having faith in their own products and getting more on the shelves for their next big launch.

I was on the look out for Wii Fit not for myself (although I could probably benefit from it!) but for my niece. The funny thing is, I didn't even need it until Christmas, but after my experience with the Wii Console last year I knew I needed to plan ahead!
After much frustration, I stumbled across a Wii Fit in stock checker - http://www.wii-fit-in-stock.com - and, thankfully, managed to get one!
I'm so glad I didn't leave it until Christmas, though, can only imagine how stressful that would be!
