Brawl Stage of the Week: Classic DK
This week we're featuring another classically themed stage, as the thought of creating retro levels on Brawl seems to fuel stage submissions. This one in particular is an interpretation of the original Donkey Kong arcade game, in which Mario made his first appearance as Jumpman.
Unfortunately, Donkey Kong won't be throwing barrels at you and there are no princesses that need saving. However, if you want a fun brawl on a nostalgia-inducing stage, check out "Classic DK" by blu_j.

Once again, this is a big stage that not even the warp star trick can fully tackle. Still, we tend to like it that way -- there are more places to fight and more places to scramble.
The ladders in this stage are mostly for effect, to invoke the spirit of the oldschool Donkey Kong. There are also a lot of spike traps, so you'll have to be careful not to fall into those as you try to beat up your enemies. Take a look at our gallery walkthrough for a closer look at this massive level.

I don't understand how this is different from 75m.
Inanimate @ May 27th 2008 9:11PM
That's because... it isn't. I would rather play on 75m.

It's different because you don't have DK throwing jacks, the platforms go up and down instead of one direction... overall just not as good as 75m. I'm with Inanimate in playing 75m over this. Now if they had made 50m, I'd be interested.
Oh wait...

...someone did.

I want 25m. In fact, I'll probbably make it myself.
Dave A.'s YouTube video reminded me: "m" is read "meters", not as "em". The building they're fighting on is 100 meters tall.

"Unfortunately, Donkey Kong won't be throwing barrels at you"
Donkey Kong didn't actually throw barrels at you in the original game's level upon which this is based.

I had high hopes for the Wii Fanboy Stage of the Week...
I was hoping that since Nintendo wasn't putting forward quality custom stages that maybe WFB would, but so far the stages have been really disappointing. Spikes, ladders, and falling platforms don't make a good stage. How about we see some quality, fun, somewhat balanced stages? And no, I'm not talking about the SSB tournament scene's "omg this stage should be banned because you can't grab the ledge on that tree in the background, it's teh unfairz!", but let's see some thought put into these maps, hmm?

Sorry to disappoint you. I have to work with the submissions I get, and interest seems to have lessened in the past few weeks (mostly since Mario Kart came out), as Brawl hype has died down.
I'm going to consider putting this feature on hold until Brawl comes out in Europe. We'll see what happens!

HOW HIGH CAN YOU GET?
GatorSax2010 @ May 28th 2008 12:38AM
How do we submit stages?
RupeeClock @ May 28th 2008 7:40AM
Funny thing, a couple of days ago, the daily downloadable stage from the smash service was "25m"
Gewurztraminer says: R.O.B. is the last Cylon! @ May 28th 2008 6:49PM
I should have been paying attention to the daily downloads... I submitted a 25m and a 100m stage to Nintendo awhile back.
