Barack rocks the Check Mii Out channel
Not only does Barack Obama appear on an occasional DS system and fight John McCain in Pokémon-like battles, but apparently his Mii is quite the popular avatar. On the Check Mii Out channel, it's one of the top fifty most popular, proudly standing next to Batman. The Mii's skill, aptly enough, is listed as "Speeches."
Unfortunately, thanks to the oft unkind initialing system on the Check Mii Out channel, Obama is designated as "B.O." So, fess up -- how many of you have B.O. on your Wiis?

I wouldn't be caught dead with that terrible B.O. on my Wii!
Had to be done folks.
Dustin @ May 26th 2008 10:51PM
Wow you're hilarious and don't sound ignorant at all.
Damian G. @ May 26th 2008 10:55PM
What's the ignorance? It was a corny play on words!
Razor @ May 26th 2008 11:14PM
Get a life Dustin...
Nathew @ May 26th 2008 10:36PM
i do, but mine is not nearly as good as that one.
the hillary ones tend to be less than flattering, as most of them are made to be very ugly, having devil horns, and male. not to mention "acting" as the skill.
Jhongerkong @ May 26th 2008 11:07PM
I loled at the Family Guy miis in the pic
hvnlysoldr @ May 26th 2008 11:35PM
I like that Venom.
Croove55 @ May 27th 2008 1:29AM
You're right, that is one amazing portrayal of Venom.
Actually, why isn't this post about the Venom Mii? That's one awesome Mii. I don't care if the election is more relevant, LOOK AT VENOM. Far more interesting.
....Venom for 1st black president okayI'llshutup.
Haohmaru @ May 26th 2008 11:42PM
My B.O. rocks at Wii Sports boxing.
Wii60 @ May 27th 2008 1:26AM
Funny, my McCain one beats him every time...
Haohmaru @ May 27th 2008 7:52AM
Good thing the Wii Sports boxing ring isn't Iraq; otherwise, he would've wanted to be in there for 100 years, "if necessary."
Timdogg @ May 27th 2008 8:02AM
Yep have to admit it, if BO was on my Wii it would only be to beat up in boxing...Not because I have a problem with black people in political positions...just because I think that the democratice party is evil.
Haohmaru @ May 27th 2008 8:16AM
Ah. So you're not racist; you're just ignorant. Thanks for clearing that up.
MrHanMan @ May 27th 2008 9:27AM
because, as we all know, when you disagree with a liberal, you're just ignorant.
Haohmaru @ May 27th 2008 11:40AM
You may label me as you see fit, MrHanSan. No skin off my nose. I have absolutely no problem with anyone disagreeing with me. People do, and should, have differing beliefs and opinions. That's simply not the issue. I would've just as readily called "Timdogg" out if he had made a blanket statement about Republicans being "evil" instead of Democrats. I spit on blind partisanship no matter which side it comes from.
+++volume+++ @ May 26th 2008 11:48PM
He's on my favorites, I'm pretty sure.
ECG @ May 27th 2008 12:07AM
Oh no! Stop the presses! A Presidential candidate is on the Check Mii Out Channel! Shock and Awe!
Just because you like him doesn't mean this is news worthy. There are plenty of other real-life people on there. What makes this one more exciting or important than the others?
Chris @ May 27th 2008 12:09AM
I love Wii Fanboy!
Jake @ May 27th 2008 12:21AM
Today has been kinda slow on news so why can't this be posted?
ECG @ May 27th 2008 12:24AM
I'm not saying It's not post worthy, but why specifically only one Mii, Barack Obama?
Damian G. @ May 27th 2008 1:00AM
Demographically, it makes sense.
Wii owners tend to be wealthier than owners of other consoles: http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14104
The average Wii owner is 29 years old: http://www.pcworld.com/printable/article/id,140575/printable.html
Upper-income and younger voters have tended to favour Barack Obama as we have seen in the Democratic primaries, so a correlation between voter and Wii owner demographics is entirely possible.
Hafk @ May 27th 2008 12:59AM
Because he is bringing change to the Wii. Duh.

David Hinkle @ May 27th 2008 1:23AM
Chris,
Watch the language. I changed your comment this time. Next time, I have to ban you.
Candace Savino @ May 27th 2008 1:31PM
Because there wasn't much news to report on Memorial Day?
Because a modern-day, real life figure being super popular on the Check Mii Out channel isn't as common as your Batmans, Marios, Family Guy characters, what have you?
There are a number of reasons. And also, why do you assume that this post reflects my political standing at all? Not as much as your comment seems to reflect yours. But don't worry -- I don't think reporting that a Barack Mii is popular is going to sway any votes.
So just relax, friend, it was only a light-hearted, holiday post :).
ECG @ May 27th 2008 3:48PM
Just read some of the comments on a repost of this story on another blog and you'll understand my concern.

@Damian G.
You're answering a non-existent question. I didn't say anything about a correlation between Wii owners and Barack Obama. I only asked why there is a bias towards one person when there are hundreds of other Mii's representing various people yet they don't have their own blog post.
Damian G. @ May 27th 2008 1:39AM
Well, if that's the case, then Barack Obama is the only Mii in the upper ranks of the Top 50 who isn't a traditional pop culture figure. Usually, Miis in the Top 50 are either regular members (e.g. Peter Griffin) or representative of current fads (e.g. Indiana Jones), and invariably, almost all are pop culture icons. That a partisan political figure could gain so much popularity amongst the Wii community as to crack the Top 50 is noteworthy, I think.
In fact, let's all agree right here that if John McCain (or, barring a miracle, Hillary Clinton) cracks the Top 50, that we alert Wii Fanboy to do a post on that.
Jake @ May 27th 2008 7:50AM
Well, it is something noteworthy, I suppose, to me. Everytime when I used to use the channel, all I saw were "celebrity" miis. To have a presidential candidate on the top 50 is surprising.
LeChuck @ May 27th 2008 1:20AM
The Venom and Iron Man miis are awesome. This is why I'd keep the Check Mii Out channel. There's some really creative people our there making great ones. And with games like Mario Kart letting you drop them in all over the place it's a great way to keep adding new flavor to a game.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ May 27th 2008 3:51AM
lol that Snoop Dogg Mii is great. well all of them are great actually. who ever made them has some mad Mii making skills. i think i may have gotten that Venom (or a copy cat version) from the Check MII Out Channel myself actually.
Johnny @ May 27th 2008 10:15AM
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Johnny @ May 27th 2008 10:27AM
But I still LOVE this site!!!
Josh S. @ May 27th 2008 12:07PM
Oddly enough, I went on the Check Mii Out Channel this weekend specifically to find a Barack Obama Mii. He has now run past me several times in Wii Fit.
I gotta go back and snag that Iron Man, though. That looks sweet.
Wii_Jedi 65 @ May 27th 2008 12:24PM
haha is that an Indiana Jones Mii I see? saw the movie.. it was great!
Patius @ May 27th 2008 4:11PM
Wow. Are people that polarized?
I mean, I get offended for being called a "baby killer", but I fully understand that excluding Ann Coulter, the Republican party is made of people not too different from myself.
My best friend is a Republican.
Why do you have to hate people who think differently?
