Wii Warm Up: Would you buy Wii Sports?

If your Wii didn't come with Wii Sports, would you have bought it? If so, what's the most you'd be willing to pay? We already know that $50 would too much, but what's it worth to you?

For me, wii sports is worth $15-$30
only because its a good game with friends and its a good game to show what the wii can do. Just isnt good enough for a full $50 imo
EdgeOne @ May 26th 2008 8:57AM
I would like to suggest that Wii Sports is worth $250 to some people because its the only reason non-gamers wanted to purchase the console (and wouldn't have bought it otherwise).
Jake @ May 24th 2008 10:39AM
I would say that 30$ at most. That might be slightly high, but it is a good first game.
Ryoujin @ May 24th 2008 10:42AM
I wouldn't have bought it. The game isn't bad and such, but it doesn't fire up my interest; it's not my type of game. After I bought my Wii I did play it a couple of days, but haven't touched it since then.
Algorhythm @ May 24th 2008 10:42AM
When I finally came across a Wii, it was used and did not have wii Sports accompany it. Luckily for me I found a used Wii Sports for less than $20.
Lord Bowser @ May 24th 2008 10:51AM
£20.
It's still the best Wii game. It still dazzles all the people who are exposed to it.
worm @ May 24th 2008 10:54AM
I think I would've bought it, partially because it was so instrumental in the "new waggle" the Wii remote provided. But honestly, it turned out to be one of my favorite games on the Wii so far. I played it for a LOT more time than Zelda, probably because of trying to get higher and higher medals in the training mode.
Mountain Man @ May 24th 2008 11:06AM
I seriously doubt I would have bought it. It's basically a light-weight demo disc as far as I'm concerned, so it makes perfect sense that it was bundled with the console. I do like the games (I even bought a second Wiimote so my son and I could play the golf game together), but there's simply not enough there to justify it as a separate purchase.
Donald @ May 24th 2008 11:06AM
$20 standalone.
Though if they had bundled it with a Wiimote ala Wii Play, then I would've paid $50 for it and liked it.
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 24th 2008 6:11PM
I would do the same thing.
It's not that it's a bad game...it's just that after you get into Zelda, Mario, and Metroid shortly afterwards, you probably won't go back.
sepaar @ May 24th 2008 11:21AM
That's a tough question. I think I would have bought it. I haven't played it that much, but only because I've had so much else to play, or have been busy with college or something like that. A price of $15 would have been fine with me.
Shogan @ May 24th 2008 11:26AM
I judge the value of a game by how much enjoyment and playtime I've gotten from it. While there was no way in hell I was prepared to BUY Wii Sports when I first heard of it, having it bundled with the system gave me no choice but to own it.
That said, my friends and I have gotten more fun out of Wii sports than any other game since Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Hell yes, I would pay for it. Though if it hadn't been bundled, I probably would have never given it a chance.
silwecad @ May 24th 2008 11:31AM
I wouldn't buy it. Even though it still probably has the best implemented waggle, the game bores me.
randomguy132 @ May 24th 2008 11:50AM
$30.
I'd probably be more critical of it if I had actually paid money for it however.
Roto13 @ May 24th 2008 11:54AM
I'd buy it for my husband, the same reason I bought Wii Play. I probably wouldn't pay a whole lot for it, though.
Brian @ May 24th 2008 11:56AM
Anything about £20 then no i wouldn't buy it.
Kevin Adder Snake @ May 24th 2008 12:05PM
I wouldn't buy it if it was a 50 dollar game because there isn't much content to really drive that kind of buy. Games like SMG make sense because it is a really imaginative and fun experience. I would buy it for like 20 bucks. With Wiiware doing well, this would have been great as a Wiiware title for 15 bucks or so. The whole disc thing feels bulky and off as downloadable. That way I could play it without have to take out SMG to do so.
raindog @ May 24th 2008 12:03PM
If I'd been living alone when the Wii came out, no, I wouldn't have bought Wii Sports. But I have friends and family, and have spent more time playing Wii Sports with them than any other Wii game. 30 bucks would have been a definite buy, 40 would have been right on the edge.
They pretty much had to bundle it with the Wii in America, though, because they knew it wasn't going to get great review scores from all the FPS-whore reviewers here. If people didn't try it, they'd have been blinded by statements like "Your outfielders don't even have any legs" and "I moved my hand right and delivered an uppercut, wtf", and the Wii would never have outsold everyone else.
ProudWiiOwner @ May 24th 2008 12:30PM
50$ and bundle it with a wii remote (like wii play)
wiiomatic @ May 24th 2008 12:33PM
$80.00
Call me crazy, but wii sports got my friends to quit hating on gaming and actually give it a try- so now they accept it and enjoy it... so yeah, this is the first sports game that I've enjoyed continuously for a long period of time. those two factors make this game worth more than your average game, so $80 for me- and I'm broke.
Mrbishop77 @ May 24th 2008 12:40PM
If it hadn't been included with my Wii, then yes.
It is still the game that gets fired up when family and friends come around and the best "Wii" game.
Mr Khan @ May 24th 2008 2:32PM
At launch, yeah, i probably would have bought it separately, the first solid multiplayer title with the console, aside from Red Steel.
If i were just buying the console now, there are many better games to choose from as killer apps, i think.
Magnus @ May 24th 2008 2:42PM
I would buy it if it were a launch title. But without friends, Wii Sports loses a lot of its charm.
Luke @ May 24th 2008 2:59PM
I'd pay $50 for it...it's the most accessible Wii game; even non-gamers get into it. I can bring it to my parents' house and even they want to play it. It's a classic party game that everyone enjoys, regardless of age, gender, or gaming experience. It's definitely one of the most frequently played games on my Wii...not for me alone, but when others want to play. I'm all for a round of bowling.
CPFace @ May 24th 2008 3:43PM
Wii Sports was my most anticipated game for the system. Seriously.
I would have bought it in a heartbeat for $30. I would have grumbled if it was $50, but I still would have bought it.
vidGuy @ May 24th 2008 5:03PM
I have a different answer depending on when and for whom the game would be bought. Within the first year of release, I would have bought it for myself for anything less than $20. But now there's enough games that show off the remote's use better, so I wouldn't buy it separately at all.
But if I was buying for a new gamer, I'd still be willing to lay down $20 for it (New). It's a good beginner's game and an exciting way to get into the console.
Abscissa @ May 24th 2008 6:05PM
$20 max.
I'm still kinda pissed that NOA forced North Americans the buy it at $50 by bundling it with the console and charging $250 for the console, instead of not bundling and charging the equivalent of US$200 like in some other regions.
blueduck08 @ May 24th 2008 6:16PM
Before I got a Wii, I was not looking forward to Wii Sports but after playing it I fell in love with it especially with multiple players. I think that's why Nintendo packaged it with every Wii system, they knew once you tried it you'd like it.
OTAM @ May 24th 2008 6:21PM
No.
Simple as that.
I want games. More Resident Evil 4 Wii,Smash Brothers, and Okami please. Thanks.
Darksyntax @ May 24th 2008 7:24PM
I'd have liked to see it bundled with the wiimote
Thrillhouse @ May 24th 2008 8:10PM
The most I would pay for Wii Sports is $20. Since it's little more than a tech demo, I don't see the point since there isn't much single player replay value.
Shalan @ May 24th 2008 9:11PM
I would definitely buy Wii Sports if it didn't come with the console! It is so much fun! I would think $30 (like Deca Sports) is fair, although I agree with many people here that $50 with a Wiimote would be good too.
mr nimblewick @ May 24th 2008 9:34PM
It's a great game. I would spend $50 on it.
Phil J Leitch @ May 24th 2008 10:44PM
Great game that has gotten people I would never have expected to see having fun playing a video game wanting it to be their turn. Bowling alone would be worth $25, so $50 wouldn't seem bad.
I'd pay $50 for an expanded version of the Bowling alone developed by Nintendo as the 3rd party bowling games suck so far.
jacob garza @ May 25th 2008 10:13AM
i bought wii sport after i found out that my other wii sports had a scrach in it. i called nintendo and asked them if i could buy it and they said yes. though i just came in a white sleve. it cost me 15 bucks plus shipping so it came out to about 20 bucks. there you have it.
Jeremy @ May 25th 2008 10:23AM
I must say that Wii Sports is the reason I even got a Wii in the first place. I already had a 360 and was about to add a PS3 and then my brother got one on release and at Christmas I played it. That is all it took was playing some bowling and boxing with my brother to buy a Wii for myself. To be honest I am glad it turned out that way since now the PS3 really doesn't have any games that catch my attention aside of a few that I would like to play but just a few games isn't enough to purchase the PS3.
On a side note also allowing other family members play Wii Sports at gatherings has caused them to go out and buy a Wii even though they only own Wii Sports and Wii Play they are still happy with their "little white box."
Ninegauger @ May 25th 2008 2:51PM
I'd have needed a demo or something to show me how awesome Wii Bowling was... then I'd pay for it.
Richard @ May 27th 2008 4:52AM
Definitely would have bought it. Even though there have been plenty of other party games, this is the one that all my friends want to play and have the most fun out of.
Hell, I'm hoping for a Wii Sports 2.
Alternatively, I hope that Nintendo takes each of the sports and fleshes them out into their own standalone title - without adding any extra gimmicks. For example, in tennis add full matches, extra training, more computer competition and tournaments (both online and with friends).
If they did that then I'd pick up tennis and probably think about golf and bowling too.
