WiiWare Beer Pong brings college idiocy to the Wii [update]
[Update: trailer after the break! Looks pretty okay, we suppose, for a beer pong game.]
Beer pong is one of the weirder recent trends in party games since the out-of-nowhere resurgence of poker, at least as seen through the eyes of someone who isn't currently in college. Now JVGames has announced their intention to translate the drunk version of Bozo the Clown's "Grand Prize Game" to WiiWare. We read the press release and started to reach for the picardfacepalm.jpg, but then we went to the website and were presented with an unexpected hilarity bomb.
Let's just say that the website (screenshot above) doesn't really scream professionalism. Blurry, blown-up beer glasses with choppy filling animations, and a 3D logo that looks like it was rendered in a DS homebrew program. It actually makes us kind of love it. Beer Pong: Frat Party Games will be out in June.

And it starts again. *sigh* when will you die shovelware?
LeChuck @ May 22nd 2008 3:18PM
Look at the brightside, maybe if all the crap companies put their shovelware on WiiWare there'll be less of it on store shelves.
msusig @ May 22nd 2008 10:37AM
Nothing is like the real thing. This is a terrible idea!

i don't see how nintendo would allow something called "beer pong" on their service for anyone to download
Sonic_13 @ May 22nd 2008 11:03AM
I agree. This game will almost certainly be rated M and currently, at least to my knowledge, there aren't any M games available from the Wii Shop Channel.
And if an M game were to be released, I seriously doubt that a game about a drinking game would be the desirable option.

It does

Needs real beer. Frat boys have bud light so they're already halfway there, just give them an accessory that allows them to chug something appearing alcoholic.
cbylife @ May 22nd 2008 12:46PM
so when would the fun start when playing this game? there's no alcohol, no real socializing, and no real "ohhhs" and "ahhhs" after barely missing the last cup for a victory resulting in the shameful chugging of your rival team's beer.

Suits against Nintendo will now include delinquency of minors influencing them to drink.

I'm sorry but I think that game looks kinda sweet. I'd pick it up for 500 points.

Really? Really?
It probably is about the pong part more than the beer, and they just decided Mountain Dew Pong isn't as well known.(ALTHOUGH IT SHOULD BE!)
murray b @ May 23rd 2008 8:37PM
I must stress the 500 points. I probably would not drop any more than that. It looks like a simple pick up and play party game, although I could see it's name being changed to Root Beer Pong!

Ugh... Disgusting... I agree.. so much for a Shovelware free service... and I thought the Major League Eating one was enough!
Jumbo @ May 22nd 2008 5:32PM
Really?
zrockstar @ May 22nd 2008 6:38PM
I think this game would be pretty sweet as well! Great party game without the mess of the real thing. I always hated cleaning all the beer off the table the next day. Although I think this game is easier than the real thing, if it's cheap, I think it might be quite fun!
Secret Squirrel @ May 23rd 2008 4:06PM
Or you can pickup the already published clearance racked Wii title "Game Party" that has "Beer Pong" nicely re-labeled as "Ping Cup", and included "bonus games": Air Hockey, Darts, Hoop-Shoot/Arcade Basketball, a Trivia Game, Skill/Skee-Ball, and Shuffleboard... The controls are janky but you can land this title for $15 or less NOW! ;)
murray b @ May 23rd 2008 8:38PM
I just might do that
