Rumor: Ryo Hazuki to enjoy capsule toys on Wii?
We don't normally see any reason to post rumors from the GameFAQs forum, but this time there's a magazine scan involved, so that's ... marginally more plausible. GameFAQs poster Saikobooru found a blurb in the Swedish magazine Gamereactor (or at least a convincing-ish fake of a scan from Gamereactor) stating that, like other Sega classics NiGHTS, The House of the Dead, and Sega Bass Fishing, Shenmue will make a return appearance on the Wii.
According to this rumor, the new Shenmue will be more like the House of the Dead on Wii than NiGHTS: in other words, ported versions of the two games rather than a new game, with some new minigames added. And now you can commence the inevitable debate about whether Shenmue is boring or the best game ever.

I love any game that makes me get a job as a forklift operator.
jan_halmes @ May 16th 2008 10:09AM
Shenmue > GTA
However...
New game >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dreamcast ports.
Matthew @ May 16th 2008 10:12AM
Easy, Shenmue should go down as one of the best imo. If you remember when that rls on Dreamcast (r.i.p) the combination of cinematic action and button matching to successfully progress was fantastic. It was like living out a movie, the town was designed beautifully, it was a joy. My only disappointment was how the story ended, I didn't enjoy having to wit for Shenmue 2, it should have wrapped up in 1... and I enjoyed the combat system quite a bit, for it's time nothing I can recall was like that and it was sad to see so much potential on dreamcast to have it's life come to end so soon, meh.

It took me along time (as a younger version of me) to like this game. I tried for a long time but after all the hype i decided to try again. And after awhile it grows and becomes so much more.
Zak1392 @ May 16th 2008 10:15AM
I would probably buy this game again just to show my support for Sega. The Shenmue games were amazing, and I would love to see a third one to finish off the (great) story.
BrokenMonkey @ May 16th 2008 10:32AM
I'd get it if it came to the Wii, But do you think the Wii can handle the graphics from Shenmue 2? After all, it was on the Xbox. I haven't seen any Xbox-exclusives on the Wii yet so I don't know how the graphics could compare.
Josh Anderson @ May 16th 2008 10:48AM
Actually, although it was ported to the Xbox, Shenmue 2 first came out for the Dreamcast. It was available in Japan and in Europe, complete with a full english translation.
BrokenMonkey @ May 16th 2008 12:12PM
Oh I forgot that it was on DC elsewhere.
Ethan @ May 18th 2008 8:32PM
I think the Xbox and the Wii are pretty much on the level, it's harder to pull off some shader effects though.
Jumbo @ May 16th 2008 11:03AM
Does not stand the test of time.

"Remember that day?"
"You mean the day the snow turned to rain?"
OMFG - I hope this is true. Shenmue is one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time.
FantomRedux @ May 16th 2008 11:49AM
Never played Shenmue myself, but it looked kinda like Ninja Gaiden and Tenchu when I saw a friend playing it. Might get it for my Wii ninja fix if it is. Gotta have a Ninja game when you have a waggle-mote
Joshua @ May 16th 2008 12:17PM
Actually, that perception is way off. Think more like ... life, in Japan.
FantomRedux @ May 16th 2008 2:32PM
Huh. Must be thinking of something else... Onimusha maybe? meh.
I still say we need a ninja game. I want to turn my Wiimote into a Wiitana!
Kelly Samel @ May 16th 2008 11:50AM
Best game ever. (at least one of the best) Seriously I love the Shenmue games and hope the rumors are true. :)
Joshua @ May 16th 2008 12:15PM
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Skies of Arcadia and now Shenmue? Oh man, all this good news might be too much to handle...
If this is all true, then SEGA, I love love love love love you. SoA and Shenmue, two of the best experiences gaming has ever given me. If we get a sequel to SoA as good as the first, and if the ports of Shenmue I and II sell well enough to give us Shenmue III, ... o ... m ... g ... That would be the greatest moment in gaming for me (along with the first times I played SoA and Shenmue, of course :P ).
...Can you tell I love these games?
RatMasterD21 @ May 16th 2008 12:32PM
oh god please let this be true i miss my old broken dreamcast and i'd kill for Ryo hazuki on wii.....yes i mean it I'd KILL!
TurboFool @ May 16th 2008 1:44PM
I'll be in the best game ever crowd. The original Shenmue stole my life for weeks. And the fact that Shenmue II for the DC never came to the US, and I didn't own an Xbox killed me. That game was just too good. I would be very happy if it came to the Wii. On the other hand, though, I'd just have my heart broken all over again when it fails to sell well enough to support another sequel.
FantomRedux @ May 16th 2008 2:35PM
Trust me, these types of games sell well with with the casual crowd. All the casual gamers I know have Sims 2 or MySims, just because its familiar. If this is anything like those, it'll sell easily methinks. I'm probly way off though -.-
TurboFool @ May 16th 2008 3:10PM
Shenmue is nothing like those, unfortunately. It is NOT a casual game, by any means. It has a (for the time, anyway) rather complex training and fighting engine, and is heavily story-driven. It's not a game you just pick up and play for five, ten minutes at a time, and it's not multiplayer. It won't sell to the new casual market.
SoshiKitai @ May 16th 2008 3:10PM
Never played it since my bro kept playing it, then selling it, before I could even get my hands on it.
And seeing that I had no money or transportation at the time, it would have been impossible for me to track down.
Hell, it's impossible to track down the first one nowadays!
Shenmue's my kind of game. I loved watching other people playing it... wish I could've played it myself, though... *sigh* It always sucks being the youngest.
Austin @ May 16th 2008 3:13PM
I already have this game for Dreamcast! I want a sequel for Wii!!!!!
Matthew @ May 16th 2008 3:25PM
If Shenmue sequel comes to Wii I'm good to buy myself but I don't want anymore ports. Why must the Wii be the port machine or the dump this crappy title. Ugh, let's pray for something fresh, I have no problem with the series but let's not repeat the same stuff and be content we're adding the wiggle factor.
Ethan @ May 16th 2008 5:49PM
It's misdirected greatness.
Haohmaru @ May 16th 2008 6:38PM
As great as the first two games are, I want some closure. Give us Shenmue 3!!
Britai @ May 17th 2008 12:23AM
Hmm. Shenmue 3 was supposed to include Shenmue 1 (see the kikizo thing for more).
I imported the UK version of Shenmue 2 to play on my Dreamcast, and got to hear actual voice acting. If Shenmue 3 comes out for the Wii I really hope the next UK version has the Japanese/subtitled dialog too, I'll buy a UK Wii to play it if I have to (assuming one can be found).
Much later I played the American Shenmue 2 on the Xbox, and I was mortified. The voice acting wasn't so bad when it was just the same people over and over again in a little town, but travelling through that version of Shenmue 2 and hearing a ton of different bad actors was unbearable. Also, the Japanese acting is cool. SNAKU!
This is one case where Europeans win by a long shot, so enjoy it :P

Quick-Time Events on the Wii could be pretty amazing. I mean, even turning the crank on a capsule toy machine.
