'Strong chance' Eternal Darkness will return, but will it be for Wii?
One of our most favorite GameCube games is Eternal Darkness. Even though the combat isn't that great, the game just did a wonderful job of screwing with our mind. When a game screws with you to the point that you believe it when it tells you that the memory card inserted into your console has no data on it, causing you to reboot the system and access the memory card directly, its experiences stick with you. At least, it stuck with us.Now, Silicon Knights' Dennis Dyack has commented that there is a pretty good chance his company will be returning to the IP for another title. "There is a chance; we love all the games we work on," he commented. "We don't want to be pigeon-holed [into a genre], we want to be known for strong content...There's a strong chance we'll return to it, but there's no announcements yet." So, good news for fans of the first title, however this is likely going to be a sore spot for some of you. Even though they remain open to developing a game for the Wii, with their work on the Too Human trilogy, the likelihood of that happening is probably pretty slim right now.
Who else would do despicable, disgusting things to play an Eternal Darkness sequel on the Wii?

I loved Eternal Darkness on the Cube and would def. love to see a sequel on the Wii. With the Wii's capabilities, this would be an amazing game especially if some multiplayer story was added.

I was thinking that you could get that screen to replace the batteries in your remote. Or an error to re-attach the nunchuck attachment.

I personally think it would be awesome if the game suddenly switched to one of the Virtual Console games on your system (or failing that, the weather channel or something) for just long enough to make you forget what you were doing.
Alternatively, speaker on the Wiimote.

Wasn't the first game published by Nintendo? if so, does Nintendo owns the rights for the IP? if so, wouldn't a secuel be bound to appear on a Nintendo console?
GatorSax2010 @ May 14th 2008 12:54PM
Nope, Banjo-Kazooie was published by Nintendo, too.

Eternal darkness was pretty EPIC....haven't thought about that game in awhile

Don't worry about the prospect of Eternal Darkness' sequel not being on the Wii, that's just an insanity effect.
"No... this can't be happening!!"
Roto13 @ May 14th 2008 11:23AM
I'd buy it.

I agree that the game was awesome, but I also agree with the critic that the combat was not very good. This could all be fixed on the Wii version. Resident Evil 4 style aiming and slashing...It would be an awesome game.

I hope Nintendo fights to get and keep this franchise exclusive to Nintendo systems. It's a fresh take on the survival/horror/psychological thriller games and I loved the original "Eternal Darkness."
I hope Wii gets this game if it gets developed.

I don't know. I'd rather have this game on the 360 for the sole reason of having the game fake the red ring of death. That would be the biggest mindf*** ever.
Chaunches @ May 14th 2008 11:58AM
i would say its probally just going to be on next gen consoles
cbylife @ May 14th 2008 12:21PM
i loved eternal darkness even though i still haven't beat it. i feel so dumb for being stuck on one boss after all these years. i just sort of...gave up. =(

Even though Nintendo might have owned the rights to the original game, I'm sure they would make sure the game doesn't come out anywhere near their Fatal Frame to reduce any competition between the two games of similar genre.

Don't kid yourself, this is Silicon Knights. It won't come out until Xbox 4 and Wii 3 (I've only been interested in Too Human for a decade now...)
phantomexe @ May 14th 2008 1:48PM
nintendo owns the rights to this game just like goldeneye. Why xbox isnt getting it for live.Great game tho maybe nintendo will have someone else make it.There was a list on n4g awhile back about owned ips this game was among the list of nintendo ips so maybe n4g wrong but i dont think do imo.Going look around the net see if i can't find it.
qwerty @ May 14th 2008 3:44PM
Story and characters and everything else is owned by nintendo. You can see it after the game credits.
