Mad World to make violence cheerful again
Are you sick to the back teeth of violence being so goddamn depressing? If so, Platinum Games, the developers formerly known as Clover, are right with you! In the latest edition of Famitsu, Platinum director Shigenori Nishikawa has declared that "cheerful violence" and "curb brawler" will be the themes of the company's first Wii title, Mad World. Echoes of God Hand, perhaps?
Mad World was unveiled yesterday through a shaky, grainy and spectacularly bloody video. Sporting heavily stylized black-and-white visuals, the only color to be found in the game was in the fountains of blood that regularly filled the screen. According to Famitsu, ultra-violence is very much the name of the game, which stars a troubled protagonist dedicated to committing his ultimate slaughter.
If you missed the footage (it was constantly being removed from video sharing sites), go past the break to catch up, and see how having a road sign lodged through one's face doesn't have to be a miserable affair.

Wow! Wait? What?
That was interesting. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? It's black and white (except the blood). Maybe we will get to pause the game mid-violence and color in the scene!! I hope it comes with a good pallet.
Anyway, What is the deal with this game? Is it suppose to be like man-hunt?
And for some reason Gary Jules keeps popping in my head
snkngshps @ May 14th 2008 12:17PM
Tears For Fears should be popping into your head, because they wrote Mad World. Gary Jules just slowed it down. TFF is much better.
TheCoats @ May 14th 2008 12:25PM
TFF is a way better band but Gary Jules seems to be the more memorable one.
Donnie Darko or Gears of War? You decide
TheCoats @ May 14th 2008 12:26PM
by memorable one, I meant version of that song
Waffala @ May 14th 2008 12:26PM
actually replying to snkngshps :
Slowing it down is what made it famous, the Gary Jules version is the one that should be playing in your head, it's just better.

If you've played God Hand: Expect more of a God Hand-feel.
ManHunt had more to do with "sneaking around" then slaughtering... with a "get to point A to point B" storyline.
God Hand had more to do with an actual story being revealed and more awesomeness-fighting... while this would be more awesomeness-slaughtering.
I'm basically saying "Expect more than just a 'point A to point B' game from these guys... afterall, they made awesome games"

Thanks Soshi

Waffala: Mad World was one of Tears For Fears singles, so it was famous waaaaay before Gary Jules (1982). Anyways, I wasn't trying to be a prick or anything, I'm just really like Tears For Fears and don't care too much for Gary Jules. :)
DBuck_Eye @ May 14th 2008 9:17PM
actually snkngshps, the Jules version is about the same bpm as the tears for Fears version. They both last about as long. Jules only changed the mood, not the tempo. I like them both anyways, if not a little more attracted to Jules' version.

Roto13 @ May 14th 2008 11:55AM
Anything worthy of being uttered in the same breath as God Hand is an instabuy for me.
samfish @ May 14th 2008 12:48PM

iveo @ May 14th 2008 12:21PM

HOORAY for 3rd party developers displaying something out of the norm for the Wii. This will surely get ppl looking at the Wii, I just hope they don't drop the ball on the controls, I couldn't care too much about story or whatever, doesn't seem like that type of game.
SWAT Kats are back! @ May 14th 2008 2:29PM
A visceral blood style, eh?
The No More Heroes crowd should like it
Orion @ May 14th 2008 2:56PM
I showed this to the guys around the office, and we can't stop laughing at the caution sign bit. Providing this is for Wii (not for ps3 like the last article said) i can't wait to buy this.
