Old rumors once again take to the Skies
We hear whispers of a Skies of Arcadia 2 game for the Wii every now and again, but there's usually nothing substantiative to say aside from "Quartermann says so," or even, uh, Surfer Girl. While we're pretty much in the same position because there's still no tangible proof, a German website called Sega On is now claiming to have insider information regarding the air-pirate RPG.
According to Sega On, the sequel will be revealed around the time of the Tokyo Game Show (so at least we'll know soon enough whether or not they're just playing with our emotions), and might even be releasing for the PS3 as well.
We've been hearing rumors about a Skies 2 for so long that we can't help but be skeptical. Still, that doesn't stop us from really, really wanting it to be true. The Dreamcast original and its ports were all well-received (this blogger can personally vouch for the GameCube version), so it's definitely a series that we'd like to see revisited.

I'm not a ig fan of RPGs, but I enjoyed what I played of the original, so I'd probably buy this one.
...probably never finish it, though.

CUTLASS FURYYYYYYYYYY!!! AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

By Ixa'Taka, the first game reduced itself to a flurry of random battles where your only goal was to use the first available target > all technique. I won't be picking up a second one if it ever comes out.

I would buy ten copies and hand them out to all my friends. That's how much I want this game.

Skies of Arcadia is one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. I really hope SEGA doesn't screw up a new version. Oh, and if it's for both Wii and PS3, I'll have to default to the PS3 version. Imagine how gorgeous the scenery could be...
And this summarizes why I love the game:

"And this is the reason why Sega's Skies of Arcadia manages to touch so many gamers' hearts -- quite simply, it feels like childhood. As if springing from the imagination of a five year old, it elicits a feeling of wonder and imagination -- that behind everything lies something daring and new.
It harkens back to the time when your backyard was full of dangerous creatures, and the local swamp was inhabited by dinosaurs, and the sewers were an intricate series of mazes that ended up treasure. It's the exact same sentiment of the Legend of Zelda series, before it fell prey to the crushing throes of tradition. And it never feels like its pandering like Mistwalker's Blue Dragon, which just seemed to be trying too hard. It's a breezy, natural, and altogether remarkable game."

I actually am playing through the Gamecube version of this right now (as time allows) and enjoy the discoveries and all that, especially now that I've got the upgraded ship. I also enjoy the ship battles more than I thought I would.
I have to admit that being able to skip or greatly shorten the animations would be appreciated, though. Once you've seen them a couple of times, it would be really nice just to cut to the damage aspect and move forward with the battle.
I also agree with Roto13 to some degree that there are a ton of random battles which I pretty much just blow through with a Delta Storm or similar. That gets old pretty quickly. I enjoy the story and the exploring, but the random battles do get annoying, especially when it's a bunch of monsters who are either pathetically weak in comparison or who just run.

They actually toned down the number of random battles from the Dreamcast version. I haven't played the game in years, but if I remember correctly, you could press start, at least on the DC, to skip the rest of animation.

Me hearts the Dreamcast version of SoA.

How ironic this story comes up when I just finished this game Sunday!

How'd you like it?

I would weep tears of joy if this were true.
Skies of Arcadia is one of the best games ever made. Period.

Given the gamecube porting, a wii version would make sense.
Really I'll be p*ssed if it isn't done
