Zero Punctuation reviews fanboys

Were you one of the easily offended, outraged souls who took umbrage with Zero Punctuation's more-than-scathing review of Super Smash Bros. Brawl? If so, then Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw has some feedback to your feedback. That's right: rather than dedicating this week's Zero Punctuation to the usual misanthropic, ranting reviews that we love so much, Yahtzee has answered the numerous critics of his Brawl review, which attracted over a thousand comments on the Escapist's site (and quite a few on here).
Hit the break for the full, NSFW version, and prepare yourself for a chilling insight into the minds of the most irrational fanboys.

one of his most entertaining videos in a while
Makalu @ May 7th 2008 7:16PM
I think people are missing the point. He's right, he's a critic. I just read his reviews because I know how critical he is and it's funny. If one reviewer's bad review is going to kill you, too bad, get over it.
Jamie @ May 7th 2008 9:42PM
I don't agree with half the stuff he says, but I still find it hilarious. Taking it personally is just a little silly.
TheCoats @ May 8th 2008 10:35AM
I dont know i think he is normally spot on with the faults in a gmae and he seemed to love no more heroes......i dont personally like his review style......its just me......but calling brawl a button masher??......I mean really........maybe to an extent but not to the extent as he was trying to say.....like soul caliber 2......but then wait it gets better after he called it a button masher and said any random n00b could beat you he went on to say.....then you'l play it alot and become one of those guys......the one who is sooooo good at the game, Etc......so its not a button masher now?
I dont know i personally dont like his critic style......
SoshiKitai @ May 8th 2008 11:25AM
@TheCoats
Whoah... what happened with your grammar and punctuation? You sound like you got so pissed at the man, you drank yourself to incoherency.
TheCoats @ May 8th 2008 11:35AM
I like him and what he has to say and I respect that but I just don't like his angry style and yes a drank alot!!!!
Actually I am at work, so sometimes I type very fast and don't proof-read.
sorry
Tom @ May 7th 2008 7:18PM
Ripping Gamespot hit the mark for me. This was great stuff.
scissors125 @ May 7th 2008 8:23PM
He's right.
Anyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if you can't respect it, then just go on enjoying the games you like, and ignoring reviews such as Zero Punctuation's Brawl review.
In my opinion, Brawl is great, and it's probably the best game on the Wii (not counting the Virtual Console), but it's far from perfect. If you want anywhere near perfect, go play Super Mario Allstars w/ Super Mario World.
manaman @ May 7th 2008 7:20PM
Ha ha!
Honestly one of his best here. I liked how he ended with his opinion of each gaming system and likening them to dogs.
Right on,
manaman

"If I shoved my balls in other people's mouths for a living, I'd be a
prostitute, or a Gamespot employee"
Classic.
Seriously people, if you liked the game, great; don't let some reviewer's opinion bug you so much.
Hungryghoast @ May 7th 2008 9:00PM
Oh, BURRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNN
Mr Khan @ May 7th 2008 7:31PM
Yahtzee done good, i think, though i would assume that some more logical arguments were slung at him
The point he made that should be shouted from the mountain-tops and distrubed to every corner of the gaming internets is that these reviews are too focused on the score. He's absolutely right, an opinion about a game should not be reduced to a single number. The numbers void the better qualities of otherwise critically trashed games like Baroque, and equally void the nagging problems of critically hailed games like GTAIV
Drahken @ May 7th 2008 7:34PM
"How about four? As in four-k you!"
That right there is some classy shit. Cheers, Yahtzee.
velocitystrike @ May 7th 2008 7:41PM
"Yahtzee" is quite a good "love to hate" character. If were went to the same school, I'd happily gossip about him but give him a spare pen if he asked for one...
velocitystrike @ May 7th 2008 7:45PM
*If we, not "If were".
Wiseguy @ May 7th 2008 7:48PM
He's completely right. Even as an unrepentant Brawl fanatatic, I have no problem with differing opinions as they in no way effect my enjoyment of my favorite game ever.
As he so wisely states, the only ones who get their panties in a bunch over a negative review are the ones with "nagging doubts in the back of their minds that they aren't having that much fun."
Go Yahtzee!
SoshiKitai @ May 7th 2008 7:50PM
Ah~ I love this. :D I absolutely loved it.
Perhaps one of the most agreeable videos I've seen from him (despite the fact that I loved Brawl).
Alex @ May 7th 2008 8:00PM
God I love Yahtzee, he's SOOOO funny, I hope to meet him... NOW!
ultima_omega @ May 7th 2008 8:44PM
This guy is great. People need to lighten up and stop taking he's reviews so seriously. Personally i think he tends to be right most the time just the fanboys hate to admit it.
Roto13 @ May 7th 2008 9:35PM
If he's right most of the time, then the only two good games in the world are Portal and Psychonauts.
goboColossus @ May 7th 2008 9:47PM
And Killer7
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 7th 2008 9:54PM

SoshiKitai @ May 7th 2008 11:09PM
And No More Heroes
manaman @ May 7th 2008 11:43PM
. . . And "God of War" and it's offspring, apparently.
Shogan @ May 7th 2008 8:51PM
I literally lol'd at the last sentence. Awesome!
Matthew @ May 7th 2008 9:31PM
Wonderful on sooo many levels, hopefully he doesn't stop! My favourite line is the response to not offering a score. I hope I quote this right.
"How about 4, for 4UCK YOU!." LMAO
Roto13 @ May 7th 2008 9:34PM
I didn't like his Brawl review because it wasn't particularly funny. Honestly, who watches his reviews because they actually care what he thinks and value his opinions? He's hilarious, but if he's not tearing a game apart, he's worshipping it like some kind of god. The fact that there's no in between should be enough to make people take everything he says with a grain of salt.
This one was funny, though. :P
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 7th 2008 9:57PM
Yea, the Brawl was one of his worst(by lulz), but the most you can bash Brawl by is nitpicking.
SoshiKitai @ May 7th 2008 11:14PM
He's a critic with an attitude that can only be described as "has a stick up his ---", with that said, an "inbetween/mediocre" review would be rare from him. :P
Croove55 @ May 8th 2008 12:02AM
I actually see a number of his reviews as middle of the road. Of course, he always seems to be highly opinionated, but I think that might be due to his stylistic exaggeration. That is to say that I think his "love it or hate it" approach is simply a result of hyperbole, and that he usually raises pros and cons fairly where they should be.
Honestly, it's like watching the Daily Show and Colbert Report for the news: it'll make you laugh more, but directness and fairness do have to be sacrificed.
BlackFreefall @ May 7th 2008 9:41PM
SSBB is fun but I find that Yahtzee take on Brawl has some merits.
CJLopez @ May 7th 2008 10:10PM
"I'm not a fanboy..."
"Yes you are.."
OMG, ROFLD, this one was epic, also
Loved how he came and fixed all those letters with punctuation while he won't use any on his reviews, xDDDDDDDD
This one was made of pure gold, as much as I love Brawl and Wii, I loved this and brawls review!!!!! this one even more!!!!
RatMasterD21 @ May 7th 2008 10:35PM
that was great he's100% right
hvnlysoldr @ May 7th 2008 11:57PM
He was right and I'm ashamed of those guys defending Brawl so poorly. It in no changes my mind because I love it; and it's going to be one of the biggest games of this generation played by all Nintendo fans.
Roto13 @ May 8th 2008 12:08AM
He didn't go after the people who made valid points. In the comments section for that video, lots of people pointed out how you don't have to play single player mode at all to unlock stuff. If he had insulted those people, it would have made him look like a bitter jerk.
TheCoats @ May 8th 2008 10:41AM
he wants you all to say he was right because obviously there was some massive damge after the SSBB review and he needed to make up for it.........so he did with this video to further his point....
SoshiKitai @ May 8th 2008 11:32AM
@TheCoats
Dude, I think you need to calm down. Next thing you know, your future posts won't make a bit of sense... :P Loosen up. Just because a lot of people like the guy and you don't, doesn't mean he's the devil who's tempting us all into his evil kingdom. You could... just NOT listen to the man. And NOT associate with him at all. :P
TheCoats @ May 8th 2008 12:22PM
@soshi
Advice well taken.....I try to avoid him but he seems to be everywhere.......I think he might be a ninja.......I just don't like ninjas......
He's just not for me.....I find him humorous thats about it.....he doesn't offend me at all I just don't get it.....
andy @ May 8th 2008 1:34AM
I had to agree with him on his brawl review. I don't like my fighter to be a tiny cluster of pixels on my screen, so I get easily annoyed when I play brawl. There is a lot wrong with brawl that people just accept, but its a paradox because despite its annoyances that are often mistaken as features, its actually one of the best games I've ever played, and one of the greatest of all time. The fun sneaks out of nowhere past dumb quirks and into my living room to produce some of the most fun (and also angriest) gaming experiences I've ever had.
fco. @ May 8th 2008 12:55PM
...and I wouldn't expect a better review for Mario Kart either.
Just go to fullyramblomatic and read today's post up to the last line.
rawr @ May 12th 2008 12:48AM
that made me lol...
Hypa-Link @ May 15th 2008 12:16PM
This guy is kinda funny.
even though he knows SHIT about Brawl or Smash in general. He couldn't be MORE wrong.
DAud_IcI @ May 29th 2008 2:06PM
Same problem as before: he wasn't talking about his subject most of the time. Before, he was just complaining about the party/hotseat/offline multiplayer games and the fighting genre wich means he wasn't actually reviewing the game at all.(However he had some points they were not related to the game specifically.) Now comes the same: he started to draw attention away by spellchecking. I's because he is not a reviewer, but some sort of stand up comedist who's so desperate that he's using such a lame old trick.
I want to add, that I still liked the first rev because it was funny, but this one was just offending and vulgar...
