Wii's Nintendo Channel DS Demos now available
Got a Wii? Then boot up the Wii Shop and download the just-released Nintendo Channel so you can get your DS demos! The new channel also features several videos, including game trailers. We watched the Professor Layton information video, which did an excellent job of showing off the puzzling adventure. From that video, users can navigate to a screen with more information, just as game rating -- and a "purchase" button, which redirects to a page in the Internet Channel with links to Amazon, Circuit City, and Best Buy, so that you can order the game from the comfort of your own sofa. Not a bad idea!Of course, what we're really interested in are the DS demos. It's about time we got some useful Wii-DS connectivity. The list of currently-available demos is short, packed with already-released games, and not particularly exciting, but we hope that will change with time. There's a lot of variety, if nothing else. DS demos from the Wii are just like any other: once downloaded, the demo stays until you turn off your handheld. Closing the DS without turning it off will not affect your demo.
Skip past the break to see the full list of available demos, including the very excellent Ninja Gaiden.
- Brain Age 2
- Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day
- Crosswords DS
- Jam Sessions
- Rayman Raving Rabbids
- Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends
- Disney Friends
- Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

European Wiis need not apply. This is a North American party, only.
LeChuck @ May 7th 2008 8:49AM
It was supposed to come out in EU this month along with WiiWare (same was planned here) so if it doesn't come early over there it'll come soon.
kravex @ May 7th 2008 12:09PM
Wiiware on the 20th May and Nintendo Channel on the 30th May in the EU.

I woke up to the blue glow, and i just finished playing Crosswords DS for an hour. Great demo.
Roto13 @ May 7th 2008 11:47AM
Yeah, I actually might buy that game now. I enjoyed the demo quite a bit.
Cyantre @ May 8th 2008 5:50PM
After playing the demo I went out and bought the game today. =)

"and a "purchase" button, which redirects to a page in the Internet Channel with links to Amazon, Circuit City, and Best Buy"
I'm sure most people here got the Internet Channel before it started to cost money (I did), but does anyone know what happens if you click the "purchase" button without having the Internet Channel installed?
waynski1457 @ May 11th 2008 6:09AM
It doesn't show up...
I really wish there was a way I could still get the Internet Channel for free...
raindog @ May 11th 2008 10:51AM
Well, it's only 500 points.... the smallest number of points you can buy is 2000, so you can get the browser plus Defend Your Castle and one of the more expensive Wiiware titles, or the browser plus that Final Fantasy game, when Wiiware comes out tomorrow (or whenever you get around to buying your next points card.)
But thanks for letting me know what happens if you don't have the browser.

The Flash Focus demo confirmed what I already knew; that it's a really stupid idea. The Crossword demo was actually pretty cool, though.
hvnlysoldr @ May 7th 2008 12:00PM
Cool. Too bad my family's gearing up for Mother's Day sales this whole weekend. And that I'm sending my Wii in before the warranty expires to fix its graphical problems.
Mad Martin Kinderhook @ May 7th 2008 1:18PM
Amazing, my Wii actually has a useful purpose again. I tried roughly half of the demos, and was only impressed by Ninja Gaiden. Flash Focus and Brian Age only served to validate my complete avoidance of training games, and, although CrossworDS was fun, it had absolutely horrible letter recognition, especially on the letter I. It usually took at least ten tries to get it to get it to not recognize it as L or, strangely, Q. Ninja Gaiden, though...wow. I absolutely can't wait until Amazon drops it to $20. I'd buy it this second, but the fact that it apparently clocks in at around five hours is holding me back.
Also, would, by any chance, the DS Fanboy staff be planning a once-a-week article in the vein of the releases/sales articles informing us of new DS demos?
Christie @ May 7th 2008 6:35PM
I totally agree that DS Fanboy should publish when there are new demos. I never use my wii enough to notice stuff like that...
Alisha Karabinus @ May 7th 2008 8:11PM
We'll keep an eye on the exciting demo changes, don't worry.
Timerider @ May 9th 2008 4:32PM
Are the demos saved onto the Wii to transfer to the DS when you're not internet connected.
mandisaw @ May 9th 2008 5:02PM
Nope, I tried to use it offline last night. Looks like the channel doesn't get past the load screen without a live connection.
