Tokyo Majin comes back to gaming for its 10th anniversary

Marvelous and developer Asmik Ace will release a DS game based on the Tokyo Majin Gakuen franchise on August 21. The supernatural anime and manga series are in turn based on the Tokyo Majin Gakuen: Kenpucho series of adventure/RPG games on the PlayStation and Playstation 2.Last year, ADV licensed Tokyo Majin, about high school students who fight the undead, for American release. The DVDs are still coming out as of this month, but the series' web site goes nowhere. We're not sure what that says about ADV's confidence in Majin, though we doubt they're going to pursue this DS game. We aren't sure if it's popular enough over here for another company to try to grab some of the revenue, either.

If I'm not mistaken, ADV recently suspended all DVD releases, and is in all likelihood going under. That's probably why tokyomajin.com leads nowhere.

Nope, that happened a while ago and they've since restored everything and are consistently releasing titles again. I believe the entire issue was caused by licensing negotiations with the Japanese companies...As a result, they lost the license to Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (which Bandai Entertainment now has) but business has resumed with only minor delays to series' such as Kanon and Tokyo Majin, and with a major delay to Devil May Cry (but it's now making its way to the 2nd DVD's release.)
In my opinion, Tokyo Majin is definitely one of the upper crop of their recent releases. The dubbing is fantastic and they manage to keep a lot of the original source material, such as Buddhist chanting, in-tact and surprisingly well-performed.

Ah, thanks. I found out about ADV's problems after the first Gurren-Lagann DVD was mysteriously delayed, I guess I didn't hear about the rest. I'm not much of a DVD collector, but it's still good to hear that those that are haven't been shafted after all.
