Wii Warm Up: Nintendo's next big Wii game

So let's start tossing around ideas on this one. What do you think Nintendo's big game reveal will be at the show? Will they be pushing Disaster: Day of Crisis, or will we see something else? What do you hope to see? What do you expect to see?

Well whatever it is, look for it to cater to the core audience backing the Wii. With WiiFit releasing in 2 weeks there's no way at E3 they would announce another AAA "casual" title so soon.
Psy @ May 6th 2008 1:37PM
As logical (and preferable) as that sounds, this is Nintendo we're talking about.
Gunhaver @ May 6th 2008 9:16AM
If they were smart they would release Animal Crossing next for the Wii. Possibly as a Nintendo version of an MMO? That would be the most awesome thing imaginable!
SoshiKitai @ May 6th 2008 11:57AM
MMOs are overrated.
An MMO Animal Crossing would be the death of the series.
I understand having your own little town, then going into a separate zone for the MMO. But if your town IS the MMO-zone... may people's hearts be forgiven as the town will fall into ruination from getting mail that says "mudkips" and everyone trampling on each other's flowers.
Bnugget @ May 6th 2008 10:01PM
SoshiKitai: That would be the XBL version of an Animal Crossing MMO, the Wii version would clearly only let you send pre-scripted notes saying things like "What's up Icebukket", and all flower stomping would be reinterpreted via Nintendo"s rainbow happy funtimes servers to be offers into your home to enjoy your dancing cactus. Of course the night clerk at the Post Office would still be a b**ch.
Ray Ray @ May 6th 2008 9:16AM
After Wii Fit, I'm gonna be counting down to GH: Aerosmith. I know it's not gonna be The Greatest of Games, but it's still GH. After I play That, I'm gonna have some time to catch up on some of the older games that I have. Maybe beat a few of 'em.
Co @ May 6th 2008 9:19AM
I've only played GH:3 and I'm already over this series. It just doesn't hook me. Rock Band isn't even on my radar.
Honestly, I do hope the big title they show is Disaster. It'll be like Nintendo saying "Look, we got the industry on lock, here's a title to get the 360/PS3 owners thinking".
Mike D @ May 6th 2008 9:17AM
There's a few out there for the fall that ARE announced:
Star Wars: Force Unleashed
Disaster
Tiger Woods, NCAA, Madden 09
but yea my guess is Star Fox, and hopefully project H.A.M.M.E.R.
Joe Cart @ May 6th 2008 4:54PM
Well Madden is a given, thats a game that comes out every year (and they better improve the wii version this year). Same for Tiger Woods
I would've loved to see Metal Gear Solid 4 on wii, but looks like thats not happening, and I dont see myself getting a PS3 soon at all.
But my guess as to this new game would have to be Starfox or Kid Icarus. Personally, i'd like to see a new starfox release with some killer online play. And make the game half action advenure, half flying. That would be sweeeeeeeet.
samfish @ May 6th 2008 9:19AM
If IGN is to be believed, it's Kid Icarus for Christmas developed by Factor 5.
...unfortunately, I don't believe them. So I'm going to guess on the hardcore side of things that it'll beeeeeeee....Pikmin. Not exactly the most exciting game but still good. Animal Crossing, too...and I'm personally hoping for, but not expecting by any means, Star Fox.
And the fall game on the causal side of things will be Wii Music. Someone pointed out that Wii Music would be the first Wii_____ game to not sell with a piece of hardware.
...Unless...Nintendo is planning to release an HDD or something with it?
Co @ May 6th 2008 9:22AM
Oh yea that's another thing. Look for Nintendo to annouce their storgae solution at E3 as well. It's an event where the core gamer takes notice, and the core gamer is the one with storage issues.
Gunhaver @ May 6th 2008 9:20AM
Mike D: Starfox is a great guess as well. That would be a great AAA Nintendo release to announce at E3. But I'm still crossing my fingers for a new animal crossing...
chad @ May 6th 2008 9:21AM
weren't there rumors of a new zelda game?
samfish @ May 6th 2008 9:23AM
Supposedly Retro is developing a Zelda spin-off...whatever that means.
SoshiKitai @ May 6th 2008 12:01PM
spin-off? ....sooo... what, you play as Ganondorf or something? Haha! ...no wait, that'd be kinda' cool.
...or will it beee.... The Legend of Zelda: Harvest Moon Edition. :D HAHAHAHA! ....wait, also kinda' cool.
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 6th 2008 4:16PM
It's MGS like.
You're Toon Link and you're in the Forsaken Fortress. You have to hide in barrels and stealth kill Moblins to get up levels gaining a new weapon after a super hard level or boss fight every 15 level!
Just kidding---But I would get it!
Also, DLC: extra levels! xP
andrew @ May 6th 2008 9:25AM
i honestly think its time for a new f zero but with mario kart just out who knows any one else dig some f zero?
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 6th 2008 4:19PM
The Blue Falcon is an unlockable small kart in MKWii.
Mr Khan @ May 6th 2008 6:04PM
After the technical tour de force that was F-Zero GX, I eagerly await whatever they come up with for the Wii Version
hopefully they get Amusement Vision to do it again (although i think they were nixed in some Sega restructuring or other)
Gunhaver @ May 6th 2008 9:28AM
Zelda spinoff?? I haven't heard anything about this. Could you post a link to some information about this?

Don't know how reliable "surfergirl" is, but there ya go. I know OF surfergirl, so I guess that's something... Personally I don't think this is a good idea. Especially with all the recent firings or quittings or whatever at Retro.
jrr @ May 6th 2008 9:30AM
After all the relevant content that's in smash, I'm sort of expecting a new Kirby game.
iag25 @ May 6th 2008 9:30AM
Crossing fingers for F-ZERO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hughesmar @ May 6th 2008 9:31AM
Here's hoping there's some sort of new IP coming out. I love Nintendo games and all, but I really wish they'd try something new.
Sadly though, it seems that most of the gaming industry is suffering from sequelitis.
Roto13 @ May 6th 2008 10:01AM
"I really wish they'd try something new."
*dies*
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 6th 2008 4:23PM
They just opened up a snow shovelling business in hell!
Prof_Chaos @ May 6th 2008 4:51PM
Get used to it. There will be less and less new IP's coming from anyone with development costs getting so high. Who wants to take a risk. A good bet is that we'll see more riskier new IP's on the Wii because it costs so much less to develop for. That or a lot more WiiWare, XBLA type games instead.
Chris @ May 7th 2008 12:19PM
It's not just the gaming industry- the movie industry is nothing but adaptations and sequels. And something just came to mind "ZOMG NBC IS REMAKING KNIGHT RIDER!!!!! AND HE'S IN A NEW MUSTANG!!!!!!!!!"
Ugh. That frustrating just typing that out.
iag25 @ May 6th 2008 9:31AM
I'm diggin it !
Justin @ May 6th 2008 9:50AM
A new game, a new character set, what about an adventure game that uses your Mii character, or old nintendo games that your Mii character can get plugged into. Wouldn't you like to see yourself play in Mario Bros 3 or Ocarina of Time instead of Mario and Link? Nintendo wants to be innovative there is your answer to innovation.
Nigeria @ May 6th 2008 9:55AM
Will there be another Kirby game in the vein of Kirby 64? I know there was supposed to be a game being made for the Gamecube, but it got switched to the Wii, or it got cancelled, or maybe a combination of the two. I'm not sure. But a new Kirby game would be cool. A new New Super Mario Bros would be amazing, as well. I haven't played a console Mario sidescroller since Mario 3 on the Nes. It's been a while.
If it isn't the two I just mentioned, or a completely new game with new characters, play mechanics, yadda-yadda-yadda, I don't think I'll be buying it. Looking at my catalogue of Wii games, aside from Mario Kart, none are made by Nintendo. I really don't see a new F-Zero or Zelda game changing that fact. I'm just not enthused by those games.
Nicholas Tam @ May 6th 2008 9:58AM
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that there will be an announcement of the Wii Zelda this E3, though I wouldn't expect the game itself to arrive any sooner than late 2010.
1. The timing seems right. Wind Waker was released in early '03. Twilight Princess was announced at E3 '04. As with TP, I think we can expect a two-year gap between announcement and release (even though they don't need to worry about adapting it to a second platform this time); strategically, Nintendo tends to announce games relatively early and quietly delay them. I think they'd see 2010 as a soft deadline for a Wii Zelda; 2011 will be the fifth year of the console's lifespan, and probably too late.
2. While Miyamoto only recently acknowledged that the Zelda team is back together, we may confidently say from past experience that every time a Zelda game comes out, they tend to go back to the drawing board for a new game almost immediately. I think Wii Zelda is much further in development than we suspect, though that doesn't mean they'll have a lot to show.
3. That said, I don't think Zelda would be the big news coming out of Nintendo even if it were announced. I expect the press conference to have lot of talk about how Wii Fit and WiiWare are doing. The next big game from an existing IP will almost certainly be Animal Crossing, although I would also expect them to push an original property soon.
4. I'm surprised that Star Fox doesn't come up more often in these discussions. Perhaps that is because Nintendo has been farming it out to other development studios lately. It's a series that needs to be fixed, but it sells just well enough that I'm not sure Nintendo knows it needs to be fixed. Regardless, I don't see the Wii coming and going without a Star Fox game to its name.
Haohmaru @ May 6th 2008 10:20AM
Like some of you, I have a feeling it'll be a Zelda game. Remember just before Wii's launch when Eiji (or maybe it was Shiggy or someone else) said TP might be the last "traditional" Zelda we'll play on the Wii? Dun dun dun!
I'm hoping the big announcement is Animal Crossing, though.
Arthur Lucena @ May 6th 2008 10:35AM
I hope that it´ll be Star Fox, or maybe Metroid.
...
Pikmin?
Well... It´ll be great, anyway. =D
Orion @ May 6th 2008 10:37AM
I know it will never happen.. but could we get a current gen verison of Vectorman??? :)
Can't wait to play Disaster. Project Hammer i REALLY want to see, but i doubt it. Starfox is a long shot, but zelda and animal crossing are definately possibilities, especially since animal crossing on the DS STILL is doing well in sales till this day.
SoshiKitai @ May 6th 2008 12:03PM
They'll need to come out with Vectorman on the VC at the same time, for that idea to be perfect.
phantomexe @ May 6th 2008 10:43AM
i so hope it not a zelda mario f-zero animal crossing or star fox, we need new IPs guys not more of the same stuff and the big N told us we see it.Those games you guys were talking about are all cool but its just more of the old stuff.
ChrisCanberg @ May 6th 2008 3:31PM
I'm sorry if I sound really noobish, but what does IP stand for?
I can tell that it means a new franchise, but I just wanna know the actual thing.
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 6th 2008 4:30PM
IP: Intuectual Property
Means a new idea/series.
ex: D:DoC is a new IP from Nintendo.
Tesche @ May 6th 2008 10:48AM
I think we will see several big announcements...including a possible storage solution....on that note, since Nintendo keeps refering to a percentage of people who feel the need for more storage, it makes me wonder if the Japanese consumer is fine with the situation...is it just American culture that wants the "big" hard drive....anyone know?
We'll see 3 of these 5...
1)Kirby Game
2) Kid Icarus Game
3) Animal Crossing
4) Star Fox
5) Pikmin
And we will definitely see the introduction of a new IP.
fingers crossed......
Doc @ May 6th 2008 10:52AM
I want to see some Zelda. Im a big Zelda fan.
And who cares if its the same old stuff. Its works doesnt it? I see what you mean by needing more new stuff and new ideas but dont bash the old, classic stuff.
josh @ May 6th 2008 10:52AM
Heres what the should annouce:
Wii Zelda
Wii F-Zero
Wii Star Fox
(no Wii Metroid, that was corruption)
Heres what they'll annouce
Wii Fit(even though its almost out they'll talk about it)
Wii Ware (same as above)
Rowdehaj @ May 6th 2008 11:17AM
Star Fox. Puh-leeeeeeeeeeeease?! I require it.
ThomasShaped @ May 6th 2008 11:45AM
A quality StarFox would be wonderful pretty plz Nintendo? With awesome Wii controls?
CJLopez @ May 6th 2008 1:19PM
And online multiplayer!!!!!!!
ththxtreme2 @ May 6th 2008 11:45AM
Since nintendo said that it was a game that nobody knows about my guess is it would be either Pikmin or Animal Crossing. However, with a sudden revival in the Pit character Kid Icarus doesn't sound to bad either. Either way it is still good news for us wii owners. Hopefully they will show more videos of Disaster because that game looks like it will be awesome.
Todd @ May 6th 2008 12:12PM
I want a new Waverace!
mazza_man @ May 6th 2008 12:25PM
If they wanna win of the hardcore (assuming that's even possible at this stage of the game) they're gonna NEED something awesome like Disaster. As good as Pikmin, Animal Crossing and Kirby may be, they don't exactly get the GTA lovers saying 'ZOMFG' do they?
So Disaster should be shown, as should F-Zero, and a really awesome Kid Icarus. They need a couple of big hitters if they want to win over the hardcore and win e3.
Or the best suprise would be...Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition! Shame it's never gonna happen...
Orion @ May 6th 2008 12:37PM
Who cares about the GTA crowd. Ninty hasn't really ever catered to that crowd.. so why now? I think games like that are up to third parties. Considering Godfather, Bully, ManHunt, Scarface, No more Heroes, etc are already on the system, i dont see a big need for more games like it atm.
From what I saw of it, while Disaster is mature, I'd hardly call it pleasing the GTA crowd. I'm happy Ninty is focusing on the two crowds it knows it can sell games to.. the nintendo vets and the casual. I'm not a fan of games like GTA, and im almost glad they are the other systems not giving the Wii a bad rep. There are mulitple systems for reasons.. each offers something different. If ninty was more like the other two systems, it woudlnt be as special. ya know? ninty has the charm/quality of it's games and now the casual market, sony has the rpgs, and xbox has the fps. I'd be more than happy if it stayed like that.
beaus27 @ May 6th 2008 12:27PM
I am I the only Nintendo fan that wants to see the Big N revist:
FAXANADU!!!!
Faxanadu 2:the Return to Eolis!!!
Is nobody else on board with me here? I know it's a loooonnnngggg shot, but who knows?
