Nintendo holding back WiiWare launch list

A few games (including Hudson's Star Soldier R, Konami's Critter Round-Up, and Two Tribes' Toki Tori) have already been confirmed for a release on May 12th by their publishers, but we're largely in the dark here. As Nintendo of America is planning to model the WiiWare release schedule on that of the Virtual Console, does that mean we'll be getting far fewer games than we originally expected when we turn our Wiis on next Monday morning?

I just need Dr. Mario.
Jody Anthony (cookingrebels.com) @ May 6th 2008 1:52PM
same.
well that and bomberman when it comes out.
Jumbo @ May 6th 2008 1:55PM
I always found bomberman to be lame.
Mrblonde @ May 6th 2008 1:57PM
And Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People. Can't forget that game.
Jumbo @ May 6th 2008 1:59PM
People care about Strongbad? is it 2001 again?
hvnlysoldr @ May 6th 2008 2:32PM
Strong Bad has always been June or July.
SoshiKitai @ May 6th 2008 3:32PM
1. Dude. Strongbad isn't just a fad. It's a site that has existed, and still exists for entertainment -- not for being famous and having fandom.
2. How can bomberman be lame? Yeah, it's simple. But so is Dr. Mario. Bomberman was made for 4-players, and the mayhem that ensues is what makes it great. ...and besides, most kids nowadays don't aren't charmed by oldies like Bomberman... I find it surprising that you "ALWAYS" found it lame. You must've been avoided a lot during the SEGA Genesis & SNES years.
3. Dr. Mario does rock. Got no problem with that.
SoshiKitai @ May 6th 2008 3:35PM
"don't aren't charmed"???? .... I must be a genius. *palms face*

I think it's because, aside from Lost Woods, the launch titles look rather weak and terribly generic.
samfish @ May 6th 2008 2:55PM
samfish concurs.
...although nothing on this Earth will stop me from buying Tetris.
Chris Greenhough @ May 6th 2008 3:04PM
Must say I thought World of Goo was pretty awesome, based on what I tried.

World of Goo looks weird but not bad.
And i'm with you samfish, Gotta get some falling blocks from Russia soon!
(Add me on MKWii, Chris? If you don't want to i'll delete you. Added you on Game Night last week)
Sonic_13 @ May 6th 2008 2:17PM
I really want Dr. Mario!!
I really hope that is a launch title. I don't want to have to wait all summer for it.
Webslinger @ May 6th 2008 2:24PM
I GOTTA FEVER!
and the only prescription.. is more cowbell.. er Dr Mario!!
Mike D @ May 6th 2008 2:29PM
Did anyone else just realize that next Mon = May 12th?! =0
samfish @ May 6th 2008 2:57PM
Thank god. I've got graduation day for my brother, my mom's birthday, my birthday and mother's day all next weekend. I'm gon' be busy. It'll be a relief when Monday comes.
...something I never thought I'd say.

Samfish has lesbian parents born on the same day? xP
Sonic_13 @ May 6th 2008 10:35PM
It does seem like a shock...May 12 is nearly here.
@Overlord: I think you misinterpreted "Mother's Day" as a second mom's birthday instead of the generic day celebrating mothers everywhere.
Gewurztraminer says: R.O.B. is the last Cylon! @ May 6th 2008 2:34PM
I'm remaining cautiously pessimistic about the entire WiiWare concept. That way I'll be pleasantly surprised by the top notch shtuff when it hits.
SoshiKitai @ May 6th 2008 3:34PM
Nice strategy.
Justin @ May 6th 2008 3:25PM
Dr. Mario Please! Oh and Tetris Too! That is it, nothing more nothing less. The only 2 games that I really want to play. Tetris on my cell phone is crap.
MBJ @ May 6th 2008 3:46PM
Online multiplayer Dr. Mario FTW!!!
s.mario @ May 6th 2008 4:47PM
Does anyone think that Wii-Ware games will have only play like XBox LIVE games? Damn...that would be sweet...
iofthestorm @ May 7th 2008 12:42AM
Eventually probably almost every Wii game will have online, and I have a feeling a greater percentage of WiiWare games will be online than regular games, but that's still a ways off yet.
Zak Canard @ May 6th 2008 4:56PM
Just give me Dr Mario and World of Goo, that'll keep me happy and quiet for a while. It's just a pain that us lot over the right side of the big duckpond have to wait until the 20th, digital distribution should be simultaneous and worldwide. I'm not just saying that about Big N, the other two are just as bad.
Charles @ May 6th 2008 5:10PM
Well, for a launch day thing, Dr. Mario and Tetris would be excellent. World of Goo was never a launch game, but I want it, and I want Animales de la Muerte and Gyrostarr. Lost Winds is also a must buy for me and if that's a launch title I'll be a happy guy... Bomberman would also be cool, dunno about SBCG4AP as I was never a fan of the whole Homestar Runner crap...
What else was excellent that was coming for WiiWare. I remember wanting alot more although that is already a fairly large list of titles for a service that is yet to launch. I seriously feel as though the Wii's selection of DLC is better than the other 2 systems, what with the VC and WiiWare with an excellent selection of games.
May 12th can't come soon enough... I also can't wait for the Nintendo Channel, DS demos sounds so awesome! Which, by the way, brings about another point, where the hell is all the Wii-DS connectivity that was supposed to happen. I mean the GCN-GBA, which sucked was more widespread than the Wii-DS...
Blue_Falcon @ May 6th 2008 9:58PM
If they only launch WiiWare with LostWinds, I'll still be pleased.
iofthestorm @ May 7th 2008 12:46AM
Seriously, that music just entranced me. The graphics look pretty nice too, but it might just be the low-res internet videos. Gameplay might not be that great but it looks interesting, and that music...
Alex @ May 6th 2008 10:12PM
I don't care because I already have Dr.Mario, Pokemon, My Life as a King, and Ping Pong :)
Yey for HomeBrew!
Sonic_13 @ May 6th 2008 10:38PM
Homebrew...or PIRACY!
