DS Daily: Let's talk Sonic Chronicles
We've had Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on the brain recently. It's an important title for us, because it can prove that Sonic is a worthwhile gaming character again, much like his golden days. But, that's not to say there aren't a few things that scare us about this game. For one, Sonic is entirely out of his element here. He'll be in his first RPG, but we totally trust Bioware when it comes to the role-playing games. Also, there's Bioware's promise that we'll do the impossible, which has us incredibly worried. That's not to say there aren't things about the game we're incredibly excited about, like the targeting rings shown in the latest video for the game.
We're kind of stuck at a crossroads, as we're very hopeful this will be a great game, yet fearful of Sonic's latest endeavors in games. How about you all? Are you as worried as we are, or are you certain this is going to be a great game?

Bioware: This will be amazing, fun and innovative!
Sega: He needs to compulsively say 90's phrases! Do it over again! We designed Big to make him utterly annoying! Out with you out! I'll just draw this picture and give it to our 5-year old game developers...

Sometimes I feel like I'm a broken record: the recent Sonic games haven't been disasters, in fact, for the most part, they've been really, really solid games. The best games in a rather stagnant genre. Though, I finally got around to playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the 360 and I can see why people say the game sucks - so many ways to die?
On to more positive things, Chronicles will be the best game on the DS. I'm sure of it. And this isn't cloudy nostalgia - yearning for the glory days of yesterday - speaking, I really believe no game will top this new Sonic game. I have no concrete facts to back up my words: I have hope, and the knowledge that there have been no bad Sonic games on the DS - so I have some-sort of facts.
From what I've seen so far, the art style looks really cool, though I do wish they'd brighten up some of the colours. I don't know how they'd fashion a decent story out of the Sonic universe, I was never a fan of the shows/comics, but Bioware made an engaging story out of KOTOR and I was never really into Star Wars. So there's hope for that aspect, too. RPG mechanics are Bioware's speciality, and the way you could choose your path in KOTOR was really interesting. I know this game won't have that dark side/light side idea KOTOR had, but the fact that Bioware's track record is so good gives me genuine hope.
This game can't fail. There are just too many positive aspects working in its favour.

This could go either way. Anyhow it's a long shot.

This game has had me thinking of the improbable Super Mario RPG. That turned out pretty well, so why not Sonic? I think I'm looking forward to this more than FFIV.

Well, according to the pics i've seen, this game looks amazing!!! Hopefully it is though, cuz if not, Sonic's fate might be screwed for good.

Any PC gamer who's ever owned a copy of Baldur's Gate II knows that Bioware + RPG = awesome.

Please be no Big often, please be no Big often... It looks great though... disregarding that big fat purple... THING. Hope it comes out soon. I still can't help but feel that the title is too... un-Sonic-ish. *reads Wikipedia article* "BioWare has stated that they want to expand on the characters and tie up loose ends left by previous installments of the franchise." Sounds promising. All Sonic has been for who knows how long has just been so mindless, especially his voice. *shivers*
