The World Ends at $29.99
The early birds may catch the worms, but the late adapters catch the sales. So, those of you who haven't yet succumbed to Square Enix's high-and-mighty game tax but still want a copy of The World Ends With You are in luck.
Until Sunday (we assume, so don't quote us on that), you can grab the game at both Amazon and Circuit City (dot com or brick and mortar) for thelow reasonable price of $29.99. Should you not want to leave the comfort of your own home (or, like this blogger, you just don't live near a Circuit City), then each online deal has its pros and cons. Both sites offer free shipping, but Circuit City adds tax to the order. Amazon, on the other hand, doesn't add tax but the game isn't in stock at the moment. Therefore, it will take two to four weeks (according to the website) for Amazon orders to ship.
Either way, if you have your eye on this game, we recommend biting on one of these deals because Squeenix's $40 DS game standard hurts.
Note: Amazon is trying to fool you into buying the copies that are in stock for $39.79 (via Hubbagames), so don't fall for it. If the link directs you to the wrong place, you should see this on the right side of your screen. Just click "Add to Cart" on the choice that says $29.99, and voilà.

WHAT?? I bought mine YESTERDAY for $40 and already opened it. Ahh well, I've made some progress and wouldn't want to start over just to save $10. Still though...grumblegrumglegrumble...

I am mad too! Bought mine last week for $40 on amazon!

See if maybe they'll honor the price change and refund the difference. I know a lot of brick and mortar stores will do that. Call their customer service or something, couldn't hurt.

Bought from Amazon. I actually find the deferred shipping convenient, it'll give me time to complete Etrian Odyssey. Besides, there are good odds that it's going to be less than 2-4 weeks; in other cases where Amazon has temporarily run out of stock they've used that as a worst case scenario placeholder ETA.

Almost picked it up last week, but they didn't have any copies at toys 'r us. Glad I waited.

If I didn't have a gajillion older games to finish before Drone Tactics, FFTA2, FFIV, etc come out, I'd get it. Damn you, DS, and your library of games!

I'd be disappointed about the news, if I hadn't gotten Crisis Core at Circuit City and gotten a $10 gift card with it - cause then it made my The World Ends with You $29.99.
It is a shame about the price drop. Good for people who haven't bought it yet, but bad for those who just got it.

I gotta admit, my first reaction was one of anger. But, my second reaction was: "now's your chance, people! buy this game!"

(for some reason when I tried to do the current users thing, it slated me as KL - that should be Jenni as well. :P)
I know. I have 2 friends now who are planning on buying it due to the price drop.

If you bought at Amazon, they have a 30 day price guarantee. Email them for your $10 refund. Other vendors may have similar policies.
BlueS @ May 6th 2008 6:53AM
If only amazon would deliver to my country... Oh well, I think I'll just import it from another vendor (it's still gonna be better than buying it here, for let's see... $76.83...)
Skavie @ May 6th 2008 3:28PM
blue what country are you on anyway? $76++? thats outrages
neaux @ May 6th 2008 2:30PM
good luck finding this at an actual Circuit City store.
Can't find a store that actually has this in stock, let alone a store that actually answers the phone in the Game department.

I live in Hungary, and this is a normal price of a "bigger" (that means advertised) game. PS games are even more expensive. For example, back in the day, there were PS2 games (!!!) around $96 ... So it's a real problem buying games here, but thanks to some people with hearts of gold (like the shop i bought my previous games from, which is located in hawaii), there are ways to circumvent this outrage (the word you use really describes this monstrosity the best).
