I like the Wii Wheel. The game is fun no matter which type of control scheme you use, but when you use the Wii Wheel the game and the controls are fun.
jsa3mm @ May 1st 2008 11:30AM
I am sorry did I say when you use the Wii Wheel the game and the controls are fun? I meant to say when you use the Wii Wheel the game and the controls are addictive!!!

I've given up on the wheel. Kinda.
What I mean is, I'll use the wheel for most online races, but when playing with my friends, especially those ones who are rather over-competitive, I switch to the remote/nunchuck.
But for the vote I picked other. It seemed like the logical thing to do.
Go1denchi1d @ May 1st 2008 11:40AM
For my competitive side, I choose to play with the gc controller. Otherwise, I'd use the wheel for sure!
josh @ May 1st 2008 11:44AM
im with most of the players here, i use the wiimote/nonchuck to be competitive and wheel to have fun
Gewurztraminer says: R.O.B. is the last Cylon! @ May 1st 2008 11:56AM
Another vote for use the Wii Wheel for fun, use the GCN controller for win (therefore, i did not actually vote).
If I even attempted the Time Trial mode with the wheel I'd be cursing and playing frisbee with the thing in a matter of seconds.
Teege @ May 1st 2008 12:14PM
I believe I could play better with the remote/nunchuk combo but I am having way too much fun with the wheel to change. This is the most fun I have had with a racing game since MK for SNES came out.
andyl @ May 1st 2008 12:17PM
I've played with the Wheel a bit, but I'm using the Classic Controller to win races and get courses/drivers/cars unlocked... THEN I'll go back and use the Wheel a bit more. It was fun, but I'm impatient and want some stuff unlocked before I put the time into mastering it!
UTWarden @ May 1st 2008 12:18PM
I play for the fun of it, so the Wheel works VERY well, 2nd, Classic controller.
fliedlice @ May 1st 2008 12:22PM
i like the wiimote and nunchuk combo best, though the wheel makes things interesting. it seems like it's harder to do tricks when i use the wheel
drew @ May 1st 2008 12:23PM
like the others the Wheel is for fun but the Wiimote and Nunchuk gives the best control if trying to win.
yourfaceisanadvert.com @ May 1st 2008 12:48PM
wii-mote and nunchuck all the way dudes
Orion @ May 1st 2008 12:50PM
Didn't we already discuss this? :)
Wii Wheel.
jan_halmes @ May 1st 2008 12:54PM
Wii Wheel. It's harder to use, but oh so more like real driving.
What would have been even better is a first person driving mode.
Scotty @ May 1st 2008 1:03PM
I gave up on the wheel for 150cc, too hard to oversteer. I like the balance and control of the wiimote + nunchuck, and it's a lot easier to pull of tricks and wheelies. Then no matter how many blue shells I get hit with, I can still come back.
Alex @ May 1st 2008 2:01PM
i have yet to try any other controller except for the wii wheel...
but i know that i will most likely be more prone to using another type of control... because the wheel makes it awkward to do power slides...
sboudreaux84 @ May 1st 2008 2:08PM
I also started with the Wheel and played most of the 50cc Grand Prix with it as well as some online too. It was fun...frustrating at times but still fun. I did decide to try the Remote+Nunchuck option and I feel like everything is so much easier. I can actually stay on rainbow road and not even worry. When I was using the wheel, I can't count how many times I went off. Since I only have one wheel, my wife can use it! No useless hardware here!
Moose @ May 1st 2008 2:08PM
Just recently switched from GC controller to wiimote/chuk combo and I love it. The wheel's OK but I don't play as well with it. I'll probably just let my son use it to crash into walls and drive around like a madman.
xeleion @ May 1st 2008 2:19PM
I'm actually finding the Wiimote + Nunchuck configuration convenient. I like having the drift on the trigger and moving the remote to do tricks. Also, it's nice to have speed controls in one hand and other stuff (control, items, camera) on the Nunchuck.
Wii Wheel = fail, though I'm exaggerating a bit because it's not abysmal, just imprecise and impractical for racing to the best of ones ability.
HOWEVER
MKWii being whored out just to advertise the Wii Wheel = hyper fail. Won't even start on this, as I'm still very passionately angry about it.
MarkShark @ May 1st 2008 3:13PM
My choice is with the Nunchuck. Gives the same controls as the Gamecube controller, but tricks are much more handy with flicking the Wiimote than using the d-pad.
I can't stand using the Wheel.
Perverted @ May 1st 2008 3:40PM
GC pad for me, WM/NC as backup.
wiiwiil is ok but not perfect or quite as easily to control.
Qwikstreet @ May 1st 2008 3:52PM
It's all about the wheel for me. I can hold my own with it and unlocked a few staff ghosts with it.
Adrian @ May 1st 2008 4:16PM
The Wii Wheel is the coolest Mariokart controller, ever!
TheOverlord#2 can has Mario Karts?(MK:2578-3517-9859) @ May 1st 2008 4:19PM
I used the wheel at first, but I have ran back(after SSBB) to my GC controller cause it's so much easier to control.
tmntman @ May 1st 2008 4:26PM
I like the Wii Wheel, but it is just too small for my hands. It ends up being even less comfortable than just using the Wiimote alone. So I just go with the default controller configuration for most of the Wii games, the WiiMote/Nunchuk combo.
michael @ May 1st 2008 4:34PM
Nunchuck. I don't like the loose controls of just the wheel, and doing tricks with a Gamecube/Classic Controller are a pain.
wey @ May 1st 2008 4:40PM
The wheel's latency renders it pretty much useless :
sorensilk @ May 1st 2008 4:50PM
I haven't tried anything but the Wii Wheel yet. It's way too fun! Once I get to the 150cc Grand Prix I'll probably switch to the Wii-Chuck combo though.
saylorsgang @ May 1st 2008 6:14PM
I talked smack about the wheel before it came out, but I am reformed, this thing kicks ass, I won't use anything else, even bought 2 extra ones
triften @ May 1st 2008 6:49PM
The Wii Wheel is surprisingly responsive, but it strikes me as more of a novelty than anything else. Directional sliding seems less precise, too. Maybe I should give it another chance, but it made me slide in the wrong direction more than a few times.
I voted Wiimote & nunchuck because they still offer a new control scheme to the series, and performing tricks with a waggle is easier than reaching for poorly-mapped gamepad controls.
Christopher @ May 1st 2008 10:59PM
The Wii Wheel is the only one I can easily use with just one-hand. The other hand is free to hold my drink or smoke, or I can hang my arm out the living room window for a more realistic driving experience.
Candace Savino @ May 2nd 2008 8:10AM
Hahaha, you made me laugh there :).
dan @ May 4th 2008 7:16PM
Haha good one dude. I lol'd.
Char6296 @ May 17th 2008 6:46PM
I lol'd when I read that. But you do make a good point- you can multi-task better, thus making it the superior control scheme.
Garst @ May 2nd 2008 3:52AM
I love the Wii wheel. I only wish there was a first-person view and "rear view" mirror. Then I can't see anyway to improve the game.
Robar @ May 2nd 2008 2:12PM
Psst... Try pressing A while driving to look behind you. :)
Moshiko @ May 2nd 2008 8:49AM
Umm,i don't have a Wii Wheel,so i tried play with the wiimote, its not so fun ,and its hard.
So i play with WIIMOTE+NUNCHACK..(:
Silviu @ May 4th 2008 12:41PM
I`m thinking to buy Mario Kart... can you play with 4 classic controllers against your friends? Thank you!
